The Ghanaian Movie Industry has over the years been relentless in producing good and educative movies of which some have recieved various awards. Below are a few of Ghanaian Award winning Movies and all you need to know about them. You might want to watch them if you haven’t done that yet.

A STING IN A TALE (2009)

‘A Sting In A Tale’  won five awards at the Ghana Movie Awards in 2010, including the awards for Best Director and Best Writing – Adapted or Original Screen Play, Best Cinematography and Best Original Song. It’s a Sparrow Production movie, written directed by Award- winning writer, producer and director Shirley Frimpong Manso and was produced by Ken Attoh. It was released on November 6, 2009 and runs for 115 minutes.

SYNOPSIS;
To the Synopsis of this film, it is based on a twisted tale of two unemployed graduates who embarked on a journey to make it in a world where you need more than what you have to get what you want. It is a film filled with thriller and drama. Main Characters in the movie include;
Adjetey Annang as Kuku,
Lydia Forson as Frema and
Majid Michel as Nii Aryee.

 

DEVIL IN THE DETAIL (2014)

SYNOPSIS;
The synopsis of this film is about a happily married couple whose relationship is torn apart by infidelity.

This film is a romantic thriller one with Ghanaian and Nigerian actors like;
Nse Ikpe Etim as Helen Ofori,
Adjetey Anang as Ben Ofori,
Mawuli Gavor as Sam,
Ama Ampofo as Claudia, and Ekow Smith Asante as Fred

It was directed by Ken Attoh and Shirley Frimpong-Manso
And released on February 14, 2014 under Sparrow Production. The movie has a running time of 94 minutes. The movie sound track was composed by Ivan Ayitey.

SINKING SANDS (2010)

‘SINKING SANDS’ is a Ghanaian drama film that has received nine nominations and won 3 awards at the 2011 Africa Movie Academy Awards, including the awards for Best Screenplay and Best Makeup. It was released in 2010.

SYNOPSIS;
The film tells a full story of a couple, Jimah and Pabi, whose marriage turns into violence and abuse when Jimah becomes disfigured in a domestic accident.

It was written,produced and directed by Leila Djansi.  It has casts such as;
Jimmy Jean-Louis as Jimah,
Ama K. Abebrese as Pabi and
Yemi Blaq as Dr. Zach Mathews. It’s a 105 minutes movie.

PERFECT PICTURE (2009)

‘The Perfect Picture’ Movie was written by Shirley Frimpong Manso and released in 2009. The movie has actors such as; Jackie Appiah, Lydia Forson, Naa Ashorkor Doku Mensah amongst others.

The ‘Perfect Picture’ has been nominated for several movie awards and won the Best Actress in Leading Role at the Africa Movie Academy Award.

SYNOPSIS;
The film talks about three young women learn harsh lessons when they try to change their lives for the better. It is a lot of drama along with some comedy.

A NORTHERN AFFAIR (2014)

SYNOPSIS;
The synopsis of this film is about the romantic relationship between Nurse Esaba Jomo and Dr. Manuel Quagraine, who works together in a clinic in a remote fishing village, is threatened when their secrets are revealed. This movie has great casts like;
John Dumelo as Manuel Quagraine, Kofi Adjorlolo, Jon Germain, Joselyn Dumas as Esaba Jomo. It was released on January 3, 2014, directed by Leila Djansi and produced by Mabel Germain.

This romantic drama film won the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Production Design at the 10th Africa Movie Academy Awards.

THE ADAMS APPLE SEQUEL (From 2011 – 2012)
Adam’s Apple has great Ghanaian actors such as; Yvonne Okoro, Joselyn Dumas, John Dumelo, Naa Ashorkor Mensa-Doku, Anima Misa Amoah and Adjetey Anang. It is produced by Sparrow Productions. Written by Hetty Owusu, produced by Ken Atto and directed by Shirley Frimpong-Manso. It was released on 21 April 2011 to 25 May 2012.

THE GOOD OLD DAYS (2010)

SYNOPSIS;
‘The Good Old Days’, a 24-episode film, with different subtitles, treating different themes relevant to the Ghanaian family life. The film project deals with the adventure of a family of eight and is set in the 1950s and 1960s. It is a healthy mix of love, comedy, and tragedy which is designed to capture the nostalgic imagination of its audience and appeal to all age groups. It’s a Movie by the  Award- winning writer, director and producer, Kwaw Ansah.

‘The love of AA’, the first episode in the series is an intriguing and compelling story of love, family life, childhood mischief, and pranks.

The second episode Papa Lasisi Good Bicycle’, Just like the maiden one, this episode depicts our society in the pre and post-independence era, revolving around the core family of Joe E. Mensah (Albert Jackson Davies). The main character, Papa Lasisi (played by Psam Adjetefio) is a shrewd Abeokuta born businessman based in Sekondi.

Among the crew is Anima Misa Amoah- co producer, Bob Johnson- Dir. Of Photography, Sackitey Amishadai- Senior Cameraman, Kofi Sefa and Dandour Doria- Sound men, Kwame Obuo Owusu and Ben Owusu Achiaw as Production Managers. It involves actors  such as  Nana Akowa Sackey, Albert Jackson- Davis, Evelyn Ansah Galley, Mawuli Semevo, Aaron Adatsi, Lois Asare, Van Hatse etc.

Suffering to lose

Suffering to lose’, interrogates certain aspects of Ghanaian life, specifically family, friendships, death, and inheritance. The film seeks to re-examine these aspects of the Ghanaian culture and to provide a window to look into Ghanaian life, culture and traditions during “The Good Old Days”.
It has great casts such as;
Akosua Adjapong, Akorfa Asiedu Djanie, Ekow Smith Asante, Ekow Baidoo. It was produced and directed by Kwaw Ansah and was released in 2010.

SILVER RAIN
It was released on 13 March 2015. The movie was written and directed by Juliet Asante and produced under the Production Company ‘Eagle Production’.

SYNOPSIS;
This film educates us about Ajoa, a street girl (Kayayo’s as they are called in Ghana, are street girls who live and work primarily in the market areas of Ghana), meets Bruce, the rich heir of the Timothy fortunes. Their friendship sets into motion a class war; as Ajoa struggles to cross the class divide and find love, Bruce struggles to find himself. Together, they must brave the turbulent political times, and the social barriers. They are both looking for love, but in the wrong places.
This movie is star stunned by Ghanaian actors like;
