Ghanaian Actors Are Jobless –

The opinions on the movie industry is a never ending cycle.

Samuel Fiscian, President of the Ghana Actors’ Guild, Samuel Fiscian, has spoken up about the state of Ghanaian actors in recent times. He revealed that due to the low patronage of local movies, most actors are now out of jobs. He said the low patronage from Ghanaians to local productions has made production companies either reduce the content they make or stop production altogether.

This situation has created a ripple effect on the working actors in the country. Mr Fiscian further stated that the popularity of foreign productions on the market have contributed to the dwindling sales of local productions. Also, most of these foreign productions are shown on television

“We are challenged by the influx of foreign productions and we acknowledge the fact that the taste of the Ghanaian has changed,” he said.

He made these statement when the guild paid a courtesy call on the new Chief Executive of Media General Group (owners of TV3, 3FM, 3News, Onua FM, Connect FM, Akoma FM and APL Productions), Pearl Esua-Mensah, to congratulate her on her appointment.

Mrs Esua Mensah made her statements on the issues that were stated. She stated that the Media General Group has over the past two decades created local stars who have excelled. “There are a lot of stars whose careers started from TV3 and gave them the launch pad to really fly. So we can assure you that that our mandate still stays. We have to do Ghana; we have to portray Ghana but we have to show that Ghana can do it with the right quality and we’re willing to work with the actors to do that,” she added.

We hope Media General Group leads the charge to definitely show more local content because they were the first channels to bring foreign content to the society.
