I Did 219 Features Between 2003 And 2008 – Okyeame Kwame

Ghana’s rap doctor, Okyeame Kwame talks about his journey. He chronicled some of the challenges he faced in the early parts of his career.

Kwame made these statements in an interview with Kumasi based Agyenkwa FM’s, B Ice. Moreover, he revealed that at some point in time he called the likes of Daddy Lumba, Kojo Antwi, Amakye Dede, Amandziba, Rex Omar and a few other top stars. He did this in order to get a feature on their songs.

Furthermore, according to OK, he did 219 features between the years 2003 – 2008. This was in order to maintain a name and still remain relevant in the music industry. However, he quickly added that the music industry in Ghana seen a lot of changes. Therefore, the competition is quite fierce than the times past.

OK stated that in the past when they started music in the late 1990s, all you needed was a manager and a producer, in present time, you need to have a much bigger team if you have plans to survive in the industry. The ‘Bra’ singer stressed that now there are a lot of radio and TV stations which have to get your song before you are heard nationwide but in times past it was just two (Otec and Joy) and you were everywhere.
