Meet Six Hollywood Stars Who Are Of Ghanaian Descents(Photos)

There are so many Blacks making it in the Hollywood Movie industry and although we may know them to be Blacks, many don’t actually know that some are of Ghanaian Descent. Ghafla.com brings to you five of such stars who are in one way or the other Ghanaian descents. Who knows, one of them might just be your relative.

Well with his name, you should not be too surprised to learn that he is a Ghanaian. British actor Peter Mensah was born in Kumasi, Ashanti Region as Enzo Patnogon to parents of Asante Tribe who were strictly academics on August 27, 1959. He moved to Hertfordshire, England at a tender age with his family and grew up in St. Albans where he studied martial arts but later developed a deep love of performing. He is best known for acting as a horse clan leader  and messenger in ‘Avatar’ and ‘300’ respectively.  You may have spotted him playing Oenomaus of the Gods of the arena in the movie ‘Spartacus’ as well Peter mensah has of course defied all forms of racial discrimination and worked his way into stardom and worldwide fame.

Senyo Amoaku was born on July 30,1979 in Dayton, Ohio, and raised in San Diego, CA, by his Ghanaian parents. He is a director, actor, writer, producer and singer. Having a renowned Professor of music for a father was only natural that he took to music. went into hip-pop and has performed alongside big acts such as Black Eyed Peas, Nappy Roots and Ludacris. He is best known for his Tall Pirate character in ‘The Expendables’. And for playing Criminal in the movie ‘Do You Believe?’

Taking a closer look at him, one would never believe that he is of Ghanaian Descent. Joey is the second son of the celebrated Ghanaian Fashion Designer Kofi Ansah and his Devon-born wife Nicola. Joey has starred in popular Holleywood films such as ‘The Bourne Ultimatum’, ‘Street Fighter: Assasin’s Fist and ‘Batman Begins” He lived in London for the first ten years of his life before emigrating with his family to Ghana where he studied martial arts of Tae kwon Do for four years and took up hip-pop dance and motorbike racing. He returned to England at age 15 settling with his mother and young sister in Plymouth.

oh yes!, Take a closer look at her again. Freema is actually one of the Ghanaian Holywood Stars you’ll hardly guess has anything to do with Africa as regards origin. She was born on March 20, 1979.  Freema’s mothers, Azar, is Iranian, and her father, Osei is ann  Ghanaian. She is an English actress who is Known for playing Martha Jones in the BBC Science Fiction series ‘Doctor Who’ and its spin- off series ‘ Torchwood’ and Amanita Caplan in the Netflix science fiction drama ‘Sense 8’. She also appeared as Penny in the 2015 film ‘North v South’.

 

Jaye Davidson

Jaye Davidson is one of the Ghanaian Hollywood Stars we believe you never knew has ancestral ties with Mother Ghana. Jaye was born in Riverside, Carlifornia. His father is Ghanaian and his mother English. The family left for England when Jaye was 2 and half. ‘The Crying Game, a controversial movie that showcased his indigenous beauty is one of his most popular movies that brought him to stardom.

Boris Kodjoe

Boris Kodjoe

Boris Kodjoe was born in Vienna, Austria, the son of Ursula, a German Psychologist of partially Jewish descent, and Eric Kodjoe, a Ghanaian Physician from Nzema. He is popularly known for is role as Jason in the year 2000 film, Love and Basketball. His other movies include, ‘The Gospel’ ‘Brown Sugar’ Resident Evil: After Life and Madea’s ‘Family Reunion’.
