Modern Artistes Shun Funerals Of Older Musicians — Gyedu-Blay Ambolley

Gyedu Blay Ambolley talks about a trend.

Veteran highlife musician, songwriter and producer, Gyedu-Blay Ambulley has words for the current crop of artists.

He made these statements on GN TV news with Pamela Boateng. Furthermore, he expressed dissatisfaction about how the young artists neglects the older musicians. This is apparent especially when they die.

Moreover, he made an example with Ebony. He stated that most of the artists celebrated her on her death. However, none of them were there when Jewel Ackah and Papa Yankson also passed away.

Also, he stated that for Ghana music to progress, we have to go back to our roots.

“When we came, we went to the elders to ask questions for them to teach us. All the music we’re doing now was learnt from our elders.

These new crop of musicians also need to come and do so. If they don’t do so, they will fall apart. All the music they do now is computerized; cut and paste.

They are doing Dancehall, they’re doing Reggae…NO!! We have a heritage here and it’s called Highlife music. Every country has its music; what we have is Highlife music so we need to develop it for the world to know what we have.’
