2018 VGMAs Celebration Jam Slated For April 28 At Independence Square

The venue for the official ‘Shut Down’ party for this year’s edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, ‘The Celebration Jam’ has been changed.

The traditional ban on noise-making which affects the Tema Municipality this weekend caused Charterhouse to move the Jam to the Independence Square.

Aside that, everything else remains the same; the date is still Saturday, April 28 and all the artists on the bill remain as well.

This jam is to honor its enterprising awardees who helped make the VGMA a success.  And to also shake off all the stress and anxiety associated with the awards.

Artistes on the bill include; Sarkodie, Samini, Stonebwoy, MzVee, Joyce Blessing, and many others.

Admission is free!

Multiple awards wining TV personality, Nana Aba Anamoah has finally responded to the break in transmission of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

However, there was a sudden break in transmission which lasted for some seconds before rectified by Media General, (TV3).

when Nana Aba Anamoah of Gh One TV was on stage to present an award in the company of Trace Africa’s Manager.

Incidentally, this when Nana Aba Anamoah of GhOne TV was on stage to present an award in the company of Trace Africa’s Manager.

Nana Aba, before announcing the nominees in the category she was about to present the award took the opportunity to ask a question. Her question was directed to the Trace Africa’s Manager. She wanted to find out why Ghanaian artistes are not given space on their platform to shine.

However, there was a break in transmission before he could answer the question. This caused uproar on social media.

It was interpreted as an intentional act by TV3, the official television partners for the event. This according to many was to prevent Nana Aba, who is a former employee of the Television station from taking the shine of the day.

Management of the television network has rendered an official apology for the hitch. Notwithstanding, a cross-section of Ghanaians took to social media to condemn the act.

Nana Aba has finally broken her silence on the issue in a series of tweets.

Responding to the challenge, Nana Aba noted that there was an urgent need to create the opportunity for rising Ghanaian musicians to shine.

She further called on Ghanaians to channel their energy in getting the International television networks to feature Ghanaian music videos on their networks.

According to her, the successful VGMA is an indication that music in Ghana has matured and needs the necessary attention.

Noting that she “only noticed the ‘shove’ when the video was circulated.”

Nana Aba expressed her appreciation for the concern of well-wishers who were not enthused by the incident.

Read Nana Aba’s post;

She said “I’m greatly concerned about the inadequate airtime given to Ghanaian musicians who work tirelessly to entertain music lovers. I appreciate @tracenaija’s commitment to change the narrative.

The success of this year’s VGMA is a testimony to the seriousness of the Ghanaian music industry.‬

‪I only noticed the ‘shove’ when the video was circulated.

‬I deeply appreciate the concern of well wishers who weren’t enthused by it. I’m confident that the public uproar has sufficiently dealt with the matter.

Let us now channel our energies into prevailing upon @tracenaija to do right by Ghanaian musicians. By giving them the airtime they have earned just as they do for others. Thank you.”

Peeved Patapaa Accuses VGMA Board Of Taking “Stupid Money” To Rob Him

One award that has sparked uproar on social media at the just ended Vodafone Ghana Music Awards  (VGMAs) 2018 is the most popular song of the year.

Many expected Patapaa Amisty to win the award with his ‘One Corner’ song based on how long the song trended for. As well as how it went viral across the country and beyond.

However, they were disappointed when the award landed in the hands of Tamale based artiste, Fancy Gadam with his ‘Total Cheat’ song.

In the course of the event, Patapaa Amisty was reported to have stormed out of the events grounds when he lost to Fancy Gadam.

Peeved, he went om to accuse Chatter House, organizers of the awards of taking money to rob him of his award.

According to him, he completely deserved to win the Most Popular song category, insisting his ‘one corner’ single was more popular than any other song in the year under review.

“They [VGMA board] have to stop those things they’ve been doing. If someone deserves an award, you have to give it to him based on his output. They don’t have to take any stupid money to give an award to an undeserving artiste,” the singer said.

“If you look from the inside, most of the people were even shouting that the award should come to me, Patapaa,” he added.

“Most of the fans were not happy that they have the award to Fancy Gadam, but all the same they tomorrow they will hear from me on air.” He said

The 2018 VGMA came off last Saturday at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

The late dancehall star, Ebony Reigns posthumously scooped the flagship Artiste of the Year award. She becomes the first female and perhaps the youngest artiste to win the awards since its inception.

Tamale based musician, Fancy Gadam won the Most Popular song of the Year with his song ‘Total Cheat’ which features Sarkodie

The blogger believes that the rhythm in Patapaa’s ‘One Corner’ song resonated well with music lovers. Not only that but it also enjoyed maximum airplay and became a household sound both in Ghana and internationally.

As a result, Attractive Mustapha maintained that Patapaa should have won that award. He added that even though he knows a section of the people think there is no substance in the lyrics.

He made these comments shortly after the awards on Accra-based Onua FM.

“Even if we use the audience at the event as a sample size, it is obvious that ‘one corner’ is more popular with them than total cheat. Considering the general reaction after the award was given to Fancy Gadam”, Editor of Attractivemustapha.com added

He added that some section of the general public may have also voted for Patapaa and the others alright.

However, he recommended that organizers should decide to make that category a decision by the board. According to him, they ahould adopt a methodology to come out with results that truly reflect who wins instead of 100% public votes.

Meanwhile, the most popular song of the year was won by the group,  Dobble with  ‘Christie’ last year.

“Y’all A Bunch Of Idiots And Hypocrites” – Jupitar Slams VGMA Board

It looks like there’s no year that VGMA wouldn’t be confronted by any artiste(s) after revealing its nominees.

The scheme has faced lots of backlashes from various artistes over the years and this year’s is not exception.

Reggae/Dancehall artiste, Michael Okine also known in showbiz as Jupitar has fumed at this year’s VGMA nominees list.

The full nominees list was released over the weekend by Chatterhouse, organizers of the awards scheme.

You might have noticed that so far, Jupiter’s name doesn’t appear on any of the categories.

Jupiter has expressed his anger at the scheme for not nominating him or any of his songs in the awards.

Peeved Jupitar took to his twitter handle to slam at the board.

He referred to the VGMA board as ‘bunch of idiots and hypocrites’.

“VGMA board, y’all bunch a idiots and hypocrites, I fucking submitted this time and it was a song that actually won big in U.K. (Clowns ), keep it up”, he tweeted.

Flash Back

Last year, Jupitar picked up the Best African Act award at the 15th edition of the annual Urban Music Awards in UK. He beat strong competitors including Tiwa Savage, Tekno, Yemi Alade, & Others to emerge winner.

Perhaps, we can understand his frustration as he probably expected to earn a nomination considering this.

Meanwhile, Jupitar is not the only artiste whose name is missing in this year’s edition. Other big acts like EL, Manifest, Medikal, Edem are all missing in action.
