I Hate February 8 Because Of My Daughter – Ebony’s Father

On Thursday, February 8, 2018, Ghanaians woke up to a sad news that dancehall artiste, Ebony Reigns, had passed on.

The musician, whose rise to the top was meteoric and who generated controversy with her

fashion, statements and stagecraft, died in a gory accident on the Sunyani-Kumasi highway after a visit to her mother.

Ebony took the music industry by storm in a short space of time.

In a little over a year, she claimed the spotlight in a manner that some who had been around for years had not been able to.

She kept releasing hit after hit song like Kupe, Poison, Sponsor, Date Ur Fada, Hustle, and Maame Hwe.

Her exploits in that time led to calls that she should win the topmost prize at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), Artiste of the Year but sadly, Ebony did not live to see that happen and was awarded the plaque posthumously.

While the public was shaken about Ebony, real name Priscilla Opoku Kwarteng’s death, her

family, especially her father, Nana Poku Kwarteng, with whom she was very close, her mother

and siblings were more traumatised at losing such a light in their lives.

Showbiz recently spoke Nana Poku Kwarteng about his feelings a year after he lost his beautiful

daughter who he affectionately called Ohemaa and he indicated February 8, has become a day he hates.

“I do not like that day and date at all, to me, I wish it didn’t even exist. That is the day that tragic thing happened, my daughter, Ohemaa lost her life and it’s just sad.

“Honestly, though ideally, we are supposed to celebrate her one year on that fateful day, I do not see anything about it that is worth celebrating and it is not written anywhere that we have to do it on that same day,” he said.

Typically, death anniversaries are commemorated so in keeping with that tradition, Nana Kwarteng said he will do something in his daughter’s memory.

“I will do what custom says, on Friday I will pray and wish her a good rest wherever she is and all that, on the quiet and that is it. The real thing will happen on March, 31. That is when we will roll out something for the public consumption.”

Before her death, Ebony’s father had pledged his undying support for anything his daughter did

in an earlier interview with Showbiz.

“I am supportive of anything my daughter does and anything she wears. I am not ashamed as a father, the truth is that I choose what she wears and I bless her before she goes out to perform. Some Ghanaians are hypocrites and I am sorry but I am not one of them,” he said.

“My daughter is not a bad girl, she is very calm, loving and a respectful person. Whatever she does on stage ends there. She is a different person when she gets home.

“My girl as I usually call her is close to my heart. We are so close that I gave her the go-ahead when she told me she wanted to do music,” he added.

Ebony Reigns’ maiden music video, Dancefloor released in 2015, did not receive much play, but

by 2017, the “’90s bad gal” was the queen of Ghana music.

She released hit after hit, topping all the charts and headlining many shows.

I Didn’t Intentionally Expose My Private Part – Ebony Finally Explains Reason Behind Viral Video

The 90’s Badgyal, Ebony, has finally opened up on reason behind her viral video.

Few weeks ago, Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng, best known as Ebony made headlines when part of her private organ was shown in a video that went viral.

This video sent a lot of backlashes down her way from many critics who referred to her choice of costume as ‘Indecent’

Ebony has however come out to explain what went wrong in her recent interview on Showbiz Agenda on Accra-based Zylofon FM.

More On Ebony’s Choice of Costumes

According to the ‘Hustle’ hitmaker, the whole episode was as a result of a ‘wardrobe malfunction.’

She insinuated that it was not a ploy to seek attention as many people have purported on social media.

Her explanation, to many seems like a U-turn though. This is because, she had earlier vowed not to do anything to please the general public but stay true to herself.

More so, the artiste together with her manager earlier said her way of dressing was part of her re-branding. Stating clearly that there was absolutely nothing wrong with her choice of costumes.

All these were immediately after the viral video. Aside this, Ebony appeared all covered up during the recent launch of her first album, “Bonyfied”

This has left many wondering if she’s finally paying heed to the advise from her critics?

Let Ebony Be, She Is Just Building Her Brand-Ebony’s Manager To Critics

Manager of the ’90’s Bad Gal, Ebony, has responded to claims that the ‘sponsor’ singer is showing too much nakedness.

According to Ricky Nana Agyemang, popularly called Bullet, Ebony’s brand is an international brand. Therefore adding that, musicians including some critics needed to cope with her style.

Ebony he said, was just building her brand adding that, “to say, she shows too much nakedness is a awful. She does what she does to please her fans. That does not mean she is showing too much or whatever”.

Ebony was in the news for exposing almost half of her private parts at the just ended 4Syte TV Music Video Awards when she was captured in a video.

The news which has since been debated on several social media platforms received mixed reactions from critics who believed Ebony was getting out of hand.

Bullet’s Speech

Speaking on the nude video performance, bullet said, someone at the event intentionally zoomed in on her private area just to make news and disgrace Ebony.

“On the red carpet at the 4Syte TV Music Video Awards, Ebony was wearing something under the blue dress but I learnt something just pushed her for the small part of the nakedness to show and because some journalist wanted to disgrace her, they did not zoom anywhere but the pubic hair.”

“Actually, I have never seen the video myself or the pictures they are talking about.”

“She never went to the event with the intention of showing her pubic hair to the audience, she respects herself and the brand as well.”

Video: Ebony Slips While Performing

She did not see that coming.
Fast-rising female artiste, Ebony had an ‘oops’ moment over the weekend. She slipped on the stage while she was performing.
This incidence happened at the “Odadee Torch and Bonfire Night” at PRESEC, Legon. Ebony was on stage performing as usual when she momentarily slipped.
However, she quickly got up like nothing happened and continued performing to the delight of the students and alumni of the school.
It seemed the boys in the school would not have minded one way or another as they were busy enjoying her performance.
Falling on stage happens to even the most seasoned of performers and therefore this incidence is not much of a big deal. What is remarkable about Ebony is that she did not let the slip affect her performance.
The video gotten from Ghanaweb’s YouTube channel shows how unperturbed she was about what happened.
