Awards-winning legendary Ghanaian Highlife musician, Kojo Antwi has revealed that his songs helped get a lady out of a coma.

The man, who says he was sent by God to do music, revealed in an interview on the Super Morning Show on Joy FM with Daniel Dadzie that a lady confessed to him that his music helped her while she was in a coma.

“I met a lady who said she was in a coma and what her parents did was to have headphones on her and they kept playing my music to her while she was in the hospital because her parents knew she was so much into my music,” the ‘Adiepena’ hitmaker said.

Kojo Antwi added that “…she had those headphones [on] even though she couldn’t hear you, she couldn’t feel anything…as part of the treatment, they kept playing my music to her all the time. So she met me and [told] me the story.”

That was not the only occasion on which his music saved a life.

‘Mr Music Man’ as he is affectionately called said last year, an actor in Kumasi nearly committed

suicide but “’Sikadam’ did magic,” prevented that from happening.

Let The Fans Judge – Kojo Antwi On Lumba Comparison

Legendary Highlife musician, Kojo Antwi, has said that he leaves the debate of comparison between him and Daddy Lumba to his fans.

According to him, his fans should determine his fate in the ongoing comparison between himself and Daddy Lumba.

Lumba and Kojo Antwi.

The debate as to who is the best among the two legends was however recently resuscitated, leading to generated heated arguments on social media.

Reacting to the debate in a conversation with Joy News’ MzGee, Kojo Antwi alluded such debate was healthy.

“It is good for the industry. I have a lot of respect for Kwadwo Fosu [Lumba], he is a brother, I believe God has a purpose for bringing him here the same time as me. I respect him because with Kwadwo Fosu, Nana Tuffour, Amakye Dede, George Darko we were able to breathe life into Ghanaian music”.

“The comparison and all that is good because it injects some new blood into the system and for me it is cool,” he added.

The ‘Tom and Jerry’ hitmaker, aka the ‘Music Man’ denied stating he does better songs than Daddy Lumba.

He says that’s an assertion that should be left to the fans. He added that time will also vindicate the better musician.

“I think that is for the fans to judge. I don’t think I said I do better songs than him. When it comes to what I do, I have a different target and he may have his own different target and it is not up to me to judge that my songs are better than him or vice versa. I try as much as I can that I don’t allow the media to create some kind of rivalry between us because we have existed in this industry for two decades…It is for the crowd to judge or time will judge us.”

Focus On Stagecraft, Not Studio Recordings – Kojo Antwi Advises Budding Musicians

Veteran Ghanaian Highlife musician, Kojo Antwi has charged modern musicians to focus on polishing their inability to stage live performances.

Kojo Antwi, also known as the  Music Maestro is well known for his entertaining live performances.

He further noted that unlike him, the current crop of musicians focus on studio recordings rather than learning the art of stagecraft.

“The difference now is that you have musicians who come out of the studio before they become musicians. And you hear a lot of people complaining of their inability to play live shows”. He told Becky on ‘E With Becks’ on Joy Prime.

“I started on stage before entering the studio. They enter studio before coming on stage, so they have to be groomed for the stage,” he said.

The ‘Adiepena’ hitmaker believes artiste managers must make a conscious effort to groom their new artistes. Thus, with the skill of live stage performances.

That notwithstanding, Mr Music Man, recommends that until an artiste has a repertoire of songs which can sustain a live audience, he/she must not mount the stage.

‘…even when you have just a single out, it is not the time for you to go out there and play, that’s my advice. You need a repertoire of about 30 minutes that you can sustain an audience with’, he stated.

Meanwhile, Kojo Antwi was the first Ghanaian ever to be nominated for Best International Act at the BET awards. That was when the category was first introduced in 2010 also recounted his experience.

Artistes With Less Than 5 Hit Songs Don’t Qualify To Perform On Stage – Kojo Antwi

Legendary musician, Kojo Antwi, aka ‘The Maestro’ has stated that any artiste without enough hit songs, don’t qualify to mount music platforms.

He further revealed that some artistes with just one or two hits are not ready to mount the stage.

This, according to the ‘Sikadam’ crooner is because it takes more than just one song to sustain a crowd for long.

Kojo Antwi made this revelation in an interview on Joy News’ Let’s Talk Showbiz.

In his perception, an artiste should have several hits that can move a crowd for at least 30 minutes else one (the artiste) doesn’t qualify to perform at a music concert.

“An artiste must be able to sustain a crowd for atleast thirty minutes and that comes with having a number of hit songs.”

“Most of these new artists are not ready to perform at concerts because they don’t have the songs and hits to sustain the crowd,” he said.

Photos: Kojo Antwi Honored In Burkina Faso At Marley D’or 18

Celebrated Ghanaian Musician, ‘The Maestro’ Kojo Antwi, also known as Mr Music Man, has been honored in Burkina Faso.

Kojo Antwi is the first-ever Ghanaian honoree at the BET Awards who has also received the Kora Award.

He has once again been honored at the Marley D’or 18 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso on Friday, May 11, 2018.

The date marked 37 years since Reggae Music legend, Bob Marley passed on.

The event, became an annual one since he passed on.

It is in commemoration of the legacy of Bob Marley, the positivity of his lyrics, the potency of his social, cultural and political commentary. Not forgetting the beauty of his music and the worldwide promotion he gave the Reggae music genre.

It is in line with these that organizers honored Reggae musicians of African heritage who continue to bear the torch.

The Marley D’or celebrates Reggae music icons whose craft helps identify African music in a world now mostly fixated on pop and its quick imitation for commerce.

Alpha Blondy, Kojo Antwi and Lucky Dube are outstanding performers of Reggae music who have inspired and influenced many in Africa from the 80s to date. It is thus not surprising that this honour was conferred on one of them at this year’s event.

The Maestro’s honor was for his notable contribution to Reggae music and its promotion of culture and tourism.

“Believing in our art and maintaining our difference, like Bob Marley did, are what make African musicians and creatives like Mr. Music Man KOJO ANTWI unique and timeless”, said the organizers.

Gracing the event were other celebrated reggae artistes. They included; Ishmael Isaacs (Ivory Coast), Solo Koko Dembele (Mali), Oscibi Johan (Burkina Faso), Hah Hunt (Ivory Coast) and Kwamy Mensah (Spain).

The Marley D’or 2018 adds to The singer-songwriter and outstanding live performer’s many national and international honors.

He has over 130 songs to his credit, many of them Reggae, Highlife or Afro Pop.

Kojo Antwi Releases New Track Titled ‘Supremo’

Ghanaian Afro pop, High life and Reggae music artiste, Kojo Antwi, has released a new track tagged ‘Supremo’.

The Maestro’ having been absent from the music scene for a while now declared himself ‘King of Love Songs’ in the new song.

Produced by Kaywa, the song also sees Antwi compare himself with other world greats as Cristiano Ronaldo, Muhammed Ali, Michael Jackson among others.

It would appear though, based on some references he makes in the record (like Bob Marley’s “who the cap fits, let him wear it”), that he is aiming jabs at an industry rival.
