Richie has therefore asked Ghanaians to allow MzVee to have her space to herself.

MzVee has been silent since last year. There were rumours that she has left Lynx Entertainment and is getting married because she is pregnant.

But speaking in an interview with Joy News, Richie said;

“Sometimes you just want to be quiet but you people always want us to come out, why? Sometimes we want to be quiet small, allow okay”.

MzVee was the lead artiste on the Lynx Entertainment Record Label until Kuami Eugene and Kidi joined the team.

She has won several awards since her introduction onto the music scene.

I’m Under Pressure To Sign New Acts – Richie Mensah

One personality in the Ghanaian music industry who has proved his efficiency not only as an

artiste but also as a music producer and artistes manager is Richie Mensah.

About 5 to 6 years ago, Richie Mensah was an artiste who produced back-to-back hit tracks.

Years after thrilling fans with tracks such as This is Love, Frema, Changing Faces, among

others, Richie retired and set up his own recording studio, Lynx Entertainment.

As the CEO of Lynx Entertainment, Richie has successfully managed and produced some

of the best artistes the industry could ever boast of.

Richie Mensah who has been in the music business for over a decade has managed artistes

like Asem, Eazzy, OJ Blaq, Ziggy, Feli Nuna among others.

Richie Mensah’s Lynx Entertainment is arguably the biggest record label now, churning out award winning acts like nobody’s business.

The success of the label has obviously attracted many and Richie now says there is a lot

of pressure on him to sign other artistes.

According to the talented producer and beat maker, there are a lot of artistes who keep knocking at his door to manage them.

“I don’t want to mention names but I get countless calls and messages from artistes who want me to manage them but my answer to them is no because I am okay with the artistes I have now,” he said.

Richie explained that adding more artistes to his record label means more work which he is not ready to deal with.

“Managing artistes is not easy as some people see it. It takes time and commitment and I am okay with Kuami Eugene, KiDi and MzVee under the Lynx Entertainment Label,” he said.

Richie in an interview with Graphic Showbiz said that what he does now is to connect the

artistes to other people he thinks can do a good job for them.

He explained that although some of the artistes who pressure him to sign them on

are disappointed and not cool with him, there is nothing he can do about it.

“I won’t pretend I can do the work because of the profit I will gain, my hands are tied now with the artistes I have on my label,” he said.

Sarkodie Is Not On The Same Level With Wizkid And Davido – Richie Mensah

The CEO of Lynx Entertainment has said that Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie, is not on the same

level as Nigerian artistes, Wizkid and Davido when it comes to music.

According to him, Sarkodie may be popular but his two Nigerian counterparts are more popular than him.

Richie however associated this to the fact that the Sarkcess music boss is a rapper unlike

Wizkid and Davido who are singers.

Richie made this statement at the launch of Eastern Music Awards in Koforidua, last week

according to a post sighted by Ghaflagh.com on zionfelix.net.

The report further stated that Richie who was a guest speaker at the launch and seminar of the

awards stated that even though Sarkodie is huge on the African continent, Davido and Wizkid

are ahead of him because they sing while the former raps.

“Apart from Osibisa, Sarkodie has broken barriers internationally. There is no country in Africa where people don’t know Sarkodie.

If you say mention 10 African artistes and Sarkodie’s name is always part but the reason Sarkodie is not on the same level as Wizkid or Davido is that he is a rapper,” he said.

Richie also used Nigerian rappers Phyno and Olamide as examples to buttress his point that

singing is greater selling tool than rapping.

He further stated that the two (Phyno and Olamide)

have not been able to blow up on the international font (particularly in Ghana) because

they rap in languages that are not understood by non-natives.

“Singing is able to go further than rap based on language limitations. When someone sings in Twi, somebody in Kenya can sing melody even if they don’t understand the language.

But when somebody is rapping in Twi and goes to Kenya, they cannot rap along because of the words,” he further explained.

The music producer further explained why he is working with a lot of singers.

“The reason I like singers nowadays is, when KiDi sings, Odo, the Nigerians are singing it. They don’t know what it means. They don’t care. They can sing the melody”

Percentage Doesn’t Matter Just Play Gh Music – Richie Mensah

The campaign for Ghanaian DJ’s and presenters to play greater percentage of Ghanaian songs on our airwaves is still on.

This call however precedes the cold attitude Nigerians showed some Ghanaian top stars who were in their country to perform.

Many industrial players have since been calling on the media to play about 80% of local songs and 20% for foreign ones.

They believe this will help promote our artistes and make them known to the outside world.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Lynx Entertainment, Richie Mensah has also added his voice to the ongoing campaign.

According to Richie, there is no need for percentage. Richie believes that all we need to do is to support our own and play more Ghanaian music.

He made this statement when he appeared as the guest speaker at the launch and seminar of

the 2nd Edition of the Eastern Music Awards in Koforidua.

“Let support our own, let’s focus on playing more Ghanaian music and pushing it global, we should help support our own artiste, especially the region based artiste, like Eastern Region, you have talent help push them”, he said.

The second edition of the Eastern Music Awards has been launched in Koforidua.

The event is organized by Hi 5 Empire in collaboration with the Eastern Region Chapter of the

Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) and the Presenters Association of the Eastern Region (PATER).

In attendance were the President of MUSIGA, Bice ‘Obuor’ Osei-Kuffour Richie Mensah and CEO of Lynx Entertainment who took turns to educate musicians on Copyright and Artiste Management related issues respectively.

Video: Eazzy’s Departure From Lynx Left Me Heartbroken For Weeks – Richie’s Mother

Mother of Lynx Entertainment boss, Mrs. Alberta Mensah has revealed that she was heartbroken when her son’s former record label signed artiste, Eazzy exited the label.

According to Mrs. Mensah, the departure of Eazzy from the label made her weep for two weeks.

Richie Mensah, once a great artiste himself retired from performing to managing of up-and-coming-artistes.

His mother, Mrs. Albertha Mensah had been his pillar and backbone in all of his careers.

Eazzy was one of the early artiste’s signed on to Richie’s Lynx entertainment in 2009. She was however, officially handed over to broadcaster cum designer Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD) in 2012.

Eazzy

Mrs. Mensah, together with her son have narrated how Richie had to use his car as collateral for a loan to shoot Eazzy’s ‘Go Go Wind’ music video.

“When Eazzy left, for two weeks I was always weeping. I wept because that was the time he (Richie) parked his car and shot a video for Eazzy; the ‘Go Go Wind’. As of the time, he spent twenty thousand Ghana cedis on that video and when he finished, she came and said she was leaving the video. Richie couldn’t tell me, he kept it for a long time before telling me. And when he told me, it was hell for me,” she told Joys News’ MzGee on mothers’ day.

Richie

She however stated she later understood that Eazzy left Lynx because she wanted to contest in the Big Brother Africa reality show.

“Eazzy came for a party once and I told her that she broke my heart and she said she was sorry. She wanted to go for Big Brother [Africa],” she added.

After Eazzy’s depature from the label, another artiste, Asem also decided to leave a while later.

Asem

When Richie’s mum was asked how she dealt with the exit of Asem, Richie rather answered that his didn’t really affect his mum since they had foreseen it in his behaviors earlier.

“I think Asem’s own didn’t really hurt mum that much because we saw it coming. He had started acting up before it happened; he raised his shoulders before he left.”

Madam Alberta chipped in that; “Especially when he got the Glo money, he thought that was the end of the world.”

MzVee, Kidi and Kuami Eugene are the current artistes signed onto the label.

It Hurts Knowing My Former Artistes Aren’t Making Hits – Richie

Lynx Entertainment boss, Richie Mensah has expressed his feelings at how his former artistes seem to have gone ‘down’ in the music industry.

The Lynx Entertainment brand seems to be the magic wand artistes need if they want to break through in the music industry.

The label has over the years produced some great artistes the Ghanaian entertainment industry has witnessed.

Some of which include; Eazzy, OJ Blaq, Asem, Ziggy and MzVee. Last year, he was responsible for the hitmakers, Kuami Eugene and KiDi whose songs we have been jamming to.

However, is has not been all rosy for the label. It has lost some of its great artistes such as Eazzy, Asem and Ziggy but that’s not a big deal. What is more surprising is the fact that some of the artistes who left the Lynx stables have gone mute in the industry. Some too are not enjoying the level of success they did whilst still with the label.

And for Richie, it hurts him that his former acts have not been able to produce the hits like before.

Richie, in an interview with Showbiz last Saturday, poured out his feelings concerning the performances of his former artistes.

“It is actually my wish to see all the artistes the label has managed grow from strength to strength but the situation is not so and it hurts me.” He bemoaned.

On why they don’t seem to capture attention like before,

Asked why he thinks is the cause of this; he explained that the Lynx team puts in so much for its artistes when they’re with the team. So much that the artistes after their exit from the label end up failing even when they believe they can do it on their own.

He added that some of his former artistes were influenced by outsiders so they felt they could handle things themselves but it did not work out well.

Although artistes leaving labels is normal in the industry, Richie revealed that he feels bad when an artiste leaves Lynx.

“It is heart breaking to see your artiste leave the record label after intense sacrifice, promotion, shooting of video clips and everything. It feels like they didn’t appreciate the work you did and the record label has to start all over again with a new artiste,” he said.

But he also added that he willingly allows an artiste who wants to walk to go. Noting it will be difficult to work peacefully with such an artiste.

He however stated that there’s no bad blood between him and his former artistes, though their exit from his label hurts him. But he stated emphatically that he would definitely not accept any of them back even if any of them wanted to return.

“If an artiste works under my label and leaves there is no way I would accept him or her back.

In fact, one of my former artistes who exited years ago wanted to come back but I turned down the offer. I believe in building new brands and that is the talent God has given me,” he said.

“I have never managed already established artistes before because I want to help new talents and I am grateful the three artistes under the label are doing fantastic”, he added.

Lynx, is no doubt one of the best record and management label in Ghana. Due to it’s great works, Richie revealed that calls keep coming from artistes who want to join the label. However, he said that  he is reluctant to take on more because it will be burdensome.

Talking about the current artistes in his stables, Richie said he feels very proud of them because they are hardworking and very respectful.

“I almost wept seeing Kuami Eugene and KiDi pick their first awards at the Vodafone Ghana Music“

The label currently has MzVee, Kidi and Kuami Eugene as its artistes. These three, we all know are doing great each year.
