Homeboyz Entertainment’s 1,000,000 Shilling Tender for Supply of Sound Equipment Expounded

Earlier this week a new report from the office of the Auditor-General revealed ‘gross misappropriation of funds’ in Machakos County. According to the auditor is the payment of Sh1 million to Homeboyz Entertainment Ltd, allegedly for provision of public address system during the funeral, was siphoned off.

The auditor argues that the function was attended by the Head of State and thus the public address system was provided for by the Presidential Press Services “thus putting the integrity of the Sh1 million paid for the service to question”.

However, Dr. Alfred Mutua has come out to justify why Homeboyz was given Sh1 million for provision of sound.

“(The late) Mutula Kilonzo’s funeral had over 20,000 people…people were actually standing about a kilometre away so we needed to put television screens for people to be able to actually mourn and see what was going on. We needed a generator to run the system, we needed a public address system with proper wiring and everything to carry it through for people to hear!”

Challenged on why they had to spend that cash yet the PPS was there, the Governor argues that what the PPS provides is mic and speakers.

“I worked in the national Government for over 9 years, everytime there’s a big event it’s not the PPS equipment that’s used. It’s actually rented equipment…the big system is rented, actually for 2-5 million. Actually Homeboyz were not basically presenting an address system, it was the connectivity.”
