1 night, 858,355 medical bill and a dead patient! Why Kenyans are asking MP Shah Hospital to show an act of humanity
Kenyans were taken by a rude shock when MP Shah Hospital produced a Kes 858,355 medical bill for a patient who was only admitted at their facility for 12 hours before she died.
Matilda Anyango was rushed to MP Shah Hospital on 11th April 2018 at 9:30 pm. She suffered severe stab wounds after being attacked by thugs in Kangemi slums.
Matilda passed on at MP Shah at 10 am, some 12 hours after her admission. Boniface Mwangi highlighted the plight of Matilda’s family who say the hospital has refused to release her body for burial because of the bill.

MP Shah responds
MP Shah Hospital issued a statement following public outcry over the huge bill slapped on Matilda’s family. Kenyans don’t understand how bed charges at MP Shah is a staggering Kes 42,600 for just 12 hours.
Act of humanity
Kenyans are calling on MP Shah Hospital to show an act of humanity and release Matilda’s body for burial. People argue that the bill will keep on increasing since mortuary charges haven’t been factored in, yet the poor family can’t even afford to pay the initial 858,355 medical bill.
Like I said, hospitals and Medical Professionals MUST be compelled to waive at least 75% of the cost of treatment if a patient dies. Exemption on mortuary services. Medical services must be more of service to humanity and less of desperation and thirst for profits. @UKenyatta pic.twitter.com/HjDJWvMPdU
