Diamond Platnumz is the perfect example of celebrities who emerged from poverty to make it big. The Tanzanian superstar was born 28 years ago in Tandale to peasant parents Abdul Naseeb Juma and Sanura Kasimu.

Diamond was solely brought up by his mother Sanura as his father deserted them while he was still a young boy. The now most successful musician in East Africa used to sell mtumba in Dar es salaam before he started singing.

His first hit song was ‘Mbagala’ which made him get known Tanzania and Kenya. ‘Number One’ however catapulted Diamond to far greater heights as he was recognized by the whole continent.
