Coastal artists need to leave Mombasa to sell their music

Am sure you have noticed the slow growth of coastal artists. Have you tried asking yourself why? It is common sense that there is market for their work in the wider Kenya. Some have been in the industry for the longest time but nothing comes out.

I’d go back to when some of us were grown back in the days. I can confirm that few have made it out here. Look at young talents like Dazalah, this guy is a talented Bongo artist but he does not even hit 100k likes on youtube.

Could it be that they are lazy or just not interested? You know passion is one thing that will drive you to do what you want. Is there no motivation? There is this time that Akothee said that Kenyan artists need to market their songs. I totally agree with her on this.

Susumila has been in the industry for quit sometime and despite this he has not yet hacked the industry.

You will not see these artists looking for gigs outside Mombasa and it’s surrounding. Who bewitched them? These people need to look for fans outside their surrounding.

We will all keep singing the anthem, play Kenyan music but we will not succeed. Reasons being that there is pride and maybe fear from the industry. Gone are the days when Nyota Ndogo was sang all over, Where did she even go?

Nyota Ndogo. pioneer of Taarab Music. No longer selling

Hating on Coastal Artist?

I know some people will rush to argue with me that am hating on coastal artists but come to think of it this way.. Why are Tanzanian Bongo artists dominating our market as if we do not have our own artists? This is because Tanzanian artists have discovered that they can hack the market. What are these people still doing in coast?

I would like someone to show me how many Kenyan coast artists are having gigs outside Mombasa over the weekend.

We will argue about this for a century, but the truth be said, coastal artists need to wake up and sell their work.

Gone are the days when people would seat and listen to radio’s. No one will come looking for you, you need that extra effort. They also need to make use of their social media accounts. But you’ll come to realize that they also have no followers.

All in all coastal artists need to tour Kenya. Period.

I would also want to know what happened to groups like Wasojali Band. Where did they go? They were a promising group but only few can tell about them.

Wasojali Band team; Jirani wanifata fata kwa nini
