Debate on mediocre Kenyan songs rages on as DJ Adrian puts in his two cents

Veteran mix master DJ Pinye ruffled many people’s feathers when he revealed that he deliberately refused to play songs from some artistes.

The 48-year-old said some artistes dropped mediocre songs and as such wouldn’t bother playing the songs. He mentioned Khaligraph Jones and DNA among artistes he had blacklisted.

“There are artists whose music I did not play back in the days, including Khaligraph and DNA, but their careers have grown… I cannot play Lamba Lolo or New Position. DJs shouldn’t play mediocre music,” said DJ Pinye in an interview with NRG radio.

Veteran mix master DJ Adrian has come out to support DJ Pinye. Speaking during an interview with Edaily, Adrian said that;

“I know for a fact that Pinye was an important part of various artists’ careers back then and I feel that if you could just talk to them then you could get the real story. He even went on tours with most of them.”

Adding;

“Personally, I was the first Kenyan deejay to tour the United States back then, and all I did was play Kenyan music during my shows; which got us much needed recognition out there and developed our industry.”
