Edi Gathegi: I just feel like there’s a lot of comparison going around between Lupita Nyong’o and me

Hollywood star Edi Gathegi has addressed comparisons made between Lupita Nyong’o and him. The Kenyan American actor also revealed intimate details about him.

Edi Gathegi has starred in several blockbusters including Twilight and X-Men. The Kenyan born actor has also featured in hit series like Blacklist and Into the Badlands.

“I’ve had many breakthroughs. There was Crank which was the first film i starred in that people really got to see. And then of course there were Twilight and X-Men which exposed me to a lot of people due to their fan base and enabled me to see the world. But i believe my biggest breakthrough is yet to come,” Edi Gathegi said during an interview with Jeff Koinange.

We need to appreciate all stars uniquely

Edi addressed comparisons being made between Lupita Nyong’o and him. He reveals that he is a big fan of Lupita and goes on to say that stars should be appreciated uniquely.

“I haven’t had the pleasure of working with Lupita yet. I’m a big fan of hers, she’s a talented actress and i’d love to work with her someday. I just feel like there’s a lot of comparison going around between our Kenyan fans and i would just like to say this; we need to appreciate all stars uniquely,” said Edi Gathegi.

The Hollywood actor further reveals that he can’t speak Swahili. Edi was born in Umoja estate in Nairobi but he moved to US at the age of three where he as been living to date.

“Just a little bit. I know sawa sawa, hakuna matata,” Edi Gathegi replied when he was asked if he knew any Swahili.

The Hollywood actor says his favorite Kenyan musicians are Sauti Sol. He also says that he looks up to Denzel Washington and that his favorite character is ‘Matias Solomon’ – an operative for a covert organization in hit series The Blacklist.

“Tell me one black man that doesn’t look up to Denzel Washington. Denzel is the greatest actor of all time, period! Unfortunately Mr. Solomon was the most natural,” said Edi Gathegi.
