Mombasa sex workers downed their tools and took to the streets of the coastal city to protest increased cases of murder and sexual assaults of their colleagues by male clients.

The protest comes a week after a sex worker was brutally murdered at the famous Casablanca club in Mombasa by a client who is yet to be arrested.

Sex workers complained that three of their colleagues had been murdered in cold blood in the last one month alone in Mombasa.

The demonstration that was organized yesterday April 4th was in response to the brutal murder of a hooker by the name Martha Simiyu who was found dead in a room in Casablanca nightclub.

The body of the deceased was found in a pool of blood last Saturday by workers who had gone to clean the room; it had deep knife wounds.

Member of the oldest profession matched from Uhuru Gardens along Moi Avenue and walked down several streets carrying placards.

They held protests at Casablanca club and moved to the office of the County commissioner to petition the government to intervene.
