Miss Universe Kenya: People think models are not smart

Miss Universe Kenya Wabaiya Kariuki believes people have always been misled to believe that models are not smart and are always forced to depend on their beauty, a reason why they join modeling.

“Ironically, for one to get through this industry you need to be really smart. Given a chance, I would create more awareness about beauty pageants so that it makes it easy for people and organisations to want to work with beauty queens,” she said in an interview.

Kariuki is currently an Actuarial Science graduate from Daystar University. She hopes she’ll get into business soon after collecting some experience in her job field.

“I expect to get employment in my field of study then hopefully go into business. I don’t think I was born for the glamour world so it’s highly unlikely that you will see more of me in it. But life tends to surprise us at times. Let us see how things go,” she said.
