Rapper Khaligraph Jones hints on joining politics

Hard-hitting Kenyan rapper, Khaligraph Jones has suggested that if politics come his way, he will heed to the call. His fellow JKL panelists: Bien and Eric however rejected the offer saying their calling is in music.

Khaligraph´s argument being; he keeps an open mind to the field of politics especially based on the kind of fame he has among his country people in Kayole.

I think all that depends with the times and situations. I can´t say I won´t do it. Because when I go back to Kayole and I see the reception from the people and how they treat me, then I see a possibility of wanting to take that route.

However, his counterpart, Bien Aime outrightly turned down the offer with the belief that politics is basically a game of lies, something he totally wants to stay out of.

Adding that he looks forward to a peaceful life, one that politics definitely does not offer.

All hope is however not lost since the Sauti Sol band member believes he can still impact society through his music craft and not only politically.

Never ever. I love my life, I love my wife, and I plan to live a very peaceful life and to be a politician you must lie…I don´t want to lie. There are still ways of how I can impact society, not only through my craft but with the influence that I have, to bring better resources to the youth around me and to give artists a platform.

Mr Eric Wainaina on the other hand stated that artists should not drop their art for the political field, rather stick to it.

For him, he has no intentions to sit in Parliament and ´waste time´ listening to Laws. If anything, he wants to play gigs and shows all over the world.

The veteran artist believes it is not his call to grace the world of politics.

I don´t think artists should stop doing what we´re doing. Personally, I have no desire to sit in Parliament listening to laws. Ain´t got no time for that. I want to play gigs; I want to play shows in Nairobi, Dar, Lilongwe, everywhere. And, so, just because we´re intuitive and can see these things and speak about them, doesn´t mean that we´re the people for the job.
