Shock as woman is raped by street urchin in broad daylight along River Road as his colleagues cheers him

A 2 minutes 30 seconds video clip caught a shocking rape ordeal in the streets of Nairobi. The video highlights increased incidents of insecurity in the city especially on River Road and its environs.

The undated amateur video shows a street attacking unsuspecting woman who was passing by. The woman screams for help saying she is being raped but no one responds.

A group of other street urchin watches as their colleagues goes on wrestling the man. She finally gives up after one of the chokoraa threatens to kill her if she keeps screaming.

The woman then only covers her face as the rapist forces himself into her. The crowd cheers the rapist on through the ordeal while the woman remains silent.

Hotbed of crime

Several lanes and roads connecting River Road have become a den for gangs of street urchins. The woman was raped on one of the lanes joining River Road in broad daylight yet no one was there to help her.

Nairobi Directorate of Criminal Investigations Nicholas Kamwende was quoted by the Standard saying that detectives have been dispatched to pursue the rapist.

“That was wrong and criminal. We urge the victim to visit my office or Central and help us in getting the men behind it. This can happen again to anyone,” said Nicholas Kamwende on Tuesday.
