Vanessa Mdee claims she was shortlisted for Beyonce’s album but wasn’t called

Everyone is complaining that Beyonce ignored Kenyan and East Africa in general for her new album The Gift.

But according to Tanzanian singer Vanessa Mdee, Beyonce’s team actually was in talks with a few East African names for the album but the talks didn’t materialize to anything.

The singer shared in an interview with Lil Ommy TV saying that Beyonce’s teamed reached to her and she was even shortlisted for the album but doesn’t know what happened.

“I was shortlisted. I remember that there was a conversation. I never heard of it again and do not know what happened. I am not mad that Beyoncé worked on the album, because when you think about it, for those of us who travel, the only music they know about is Afro-Beat from West Africa.” she said.

Simba

She went on to add that since the movie was based in Kenya, she really expected an artist from East Africa to appear.

“We, in EA, are not in that category, we do Afro Pop. Generally speaking, we are all in the umbrella of ‘African Music,’ unfortunately, they do not differentiate the many genres. Think about it, the essence of Simba-  a lion- is a huge East African attraction and it beats me why Beyoncé did not feature us,” she said.

Kenyan singer slams Beyonce for ignoring Kenyans in her Lion King album

A Kenyan singer has spoken out loud pretty much what many other Kenyans are thinking regarding the new Lion King Album from Beyonce.

John Katana from the band The Mushrooms, spoke to American blogsite TMZ in an exclusive interview saying that Beyonce should have included Kenyan artists in her album because Lion King was shot in East Africa.

Hakuna Matata

He also added that The Mushrooms came up with the popular Hakuna Matata phrase another reason why they should have at least be included in the project.

“The creatives are complaining saying that a Kenyan act, if not Them Mushrooms, should have been on the album,” said Katana.

“The phrase [Hakuna Matata] came from Kenya, from our band. So everybody feels that Kenya should have been added a piece of the pie.”

Beyonce featured only West African artists in her album a thing Kenyans didn’t like. To make matters worse, Beyonce said the album included the best from Africa.

‘This soundtrack is a love letter to Africa, and I wanted to make sure we found the best talent from Africa, and not just use some of the sounds and did my interpretation of it. We’ve kind of created our own genre and I feel like the soundtrack is the first soundtrack where it becomes visual in your mind. The soundtrack is more than just the music, because each song tells the story of the film.’ she said before it was released.

Controversial pastor Deya says Beyonce stole his song “When Jesus says yes”: I have written very good songs

Controversial pastor Gilbert Deya famously known for the miracle babies’ scandal has accused American singer Beyonce of stealing his song.

Deya, while speaking about his prowess as a writer, revealed that he has penned over 200 songs. He accused Beyonce of stealing his song “When Jesus say yes” that he did in the 90s.

Speaking during a Citizen TV interview, Deya revealed that he’s planning to take legal actions.

“I am an author and I have also written very good songs. If you go to YouTube you will see a song that Beyonce took called, When Jesus says yes. That is my song,” Deya said.

Actually, the person to be sued for “stealing” the song should be fellow Destiny’s child singer Michelle Williams who owns the song.

Beyonce and Kelly Rowland were just featured in the song released in 2017. Several other singers have also sampled or redone the song which is now common in many churches.
