‘I Have Learnt That God’s Will Always Prevails’ Daddy Owen’s Message As He Celebrates 40th Birthday

Award-winning gospel singer Owen Mwatia, better known as Daddy Owen, has taken to social media to thank God during his 40th birthday. Comedian Churchill and Emmy Kosgei were few of the celebrities that wished him a happy birthday on their Instagram.

On his Instagram page, the birthday boy posted,

”This day would be just any day but it remains to be a special day because on this specific day, God packaged all that I am and sent me here on earth, on a mission to reflect him in all that I do.

Daddy Owen: I've been depressed for three years – Nairobi News

In my 39 years; I have seen, felt, experienced and heard so many things. I have tasted rock bottom and experienced mountain top. Betrayed and loved.

To others I may have looked stupid, foolish, useless, worthless but they forgot one thing that I am a man of God, I get revelations that make them think u r conniving, yet is wisdom from above. Revelations which give you evidence that can shake and bring down any earthly kingdom. (Can’t wait to finish my book.
I have learnt to understand that GOD’S Will always prevails!…

I want to thank my family & fans, for being the mark of Favour in my life and for standing with me even as I was in the fire. May God refresh you as you have refreshed me and may you see God in a new way as he does a new thing. Thank you for your patience, support and your love.
May God bless you.
Love covers a multitude of sins. Happy Birthday to me.”

This happens days after the musician revealed that he’s been undergoing depression. This was mostly because he separated with his wife Farida.

Happy 40th Birthday Owen!

Daddy Owen Explains Why He Took A Long Break From Music

Owen Mwatia, popularly known as Daddy Owen, has opened up on the reason why he took a break from music.

The Gospel artist is believed to be living separately with his wife Farida Wambui. A close friend of the musician disclosed that Daddy Owen has been depressed for the past three years.

I've been depressed but am now healing — Daddy Owen

The marriage came to a halt when Owen was called by a family member who works in a posh hotel in Naivasha, revealing to him that he had just seen his wife getting engaged to a rich tycoon.

However, the gospel singer is yet to remove his ring as he termed it as a covenant made in church.

He said he was afraid of speaking about his mental health as a man since he feared being termed as weak.

“Those I tried to explain to my problems to thought I was mad. Others told me to be a man. But in the long run, I had to dig the problem and face it.”

In an interview, Owen admitted that he gave himself a break due to the fact that he was depressed.

We Want Five Kids From Daddy Owen and Farida” – Rufftone

” Mentally I was not okay. I’ve not been okay for a while. I discovered later because when you’re going through stuff, more so your mental health, sometimes before you realize whatever is happening to you, inakuanga very late.”

It’s evident that Farida’s love was not genuine, unlike Daddy Owen’s. Most men are not opening up on depression with the fear of being termed ‘weak’. Let’s speak up as men, we’re also human, not machines!

“Siwezi sema hajaenda kuolewa tena” Slejj weighs in on his brother’s failed marriage

One would expect Daddy Owens brothers – that is Rufftone and Slejj ti bad mouth or act cold towards there former sister in law; but that is not the case! These men are real gentlemen who still respect Farida and the kids.

After many went on to claim that Farida walked out on Daddy Owen after bagging a millionaire; Slejj who is Owen’s youngest brother has come out to speak out – concerning the matter.

Daddy Owen with small brother, Slejj

According to the young man, he cannot add or subtract whatever has been said by the media; but all he can say is that everything is fine or rather cool. Speaking during an interview with Mzazi Willy M Tuva, he said;

It’s true in a way lakini unajua media mpaka waongeze vitu zao juu. Siwezi sema wameachana na hajaenda kuolewa tena.

Couples will always fight

Slejj who seems to have perfected the art of keeping a secret did not confirm nor deny whether Farida has moved on already; but all he could say is that everything is cool at the moment. Speaking to M Tuva, Slejj went on to add;

Daddy Owen with alleged ex wife, Farida

Kunaweza kuwa na issues kwa watu wanadate ama wako married lakini media huongeza vitu zake… The situation right now is that everything is cool.

But question remains, is will Daddy Owen and Farida finally reunite or not?

Daddy Owen handling the single life just-fine, weeks after wife eloped with tycoon (Photo)

Daddy Owen may be spending sleepless nights praying for his ex wife and the man she eloped with; but one thing he has proven is that this did not put him down as he has young ones looking up to him.

So far we have seen Owen carry on his social media life like nothing happened; but truth is, having the love of his life walk out on him was not easy nor something to get over in hours, days, weeks or months!

However having his babies living with him has taught him how to handle life as a single parent. Just recently the father of two was photographed shopping; and looking at he cart, it appears that he may have gotten everything needed for his house. But probably being the first time he is shopping alone, he went on to caption the post saying;

Well it’s understandable that he may have forgotten one or two things; but hey, he seems to be doing just fine! Right?

Daddy Owen’s Statement

His post comes days after Owen went on to release a statement where he asked fans to pray for his family.

He however did not confirm whether his wife left him for the tycoon, but his statement confirmed that the rumors concerning his wife may have had some truth to them. Through his page the singer addressed this issue saying;

Owen dumped by wife, Farida Wambui

“I want to take this opportunity to issue an official statement.

Thank you to all who have reached out to me in one way or another over the last few days with prayers or encouraging words of support following news circulating in the media involving me and my family.

The word of God encourages us in all seasons to rejoice, for the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness and faithfulness.

This requires Us to main a perspective of joy in whatever we go through as we know untimely our walk will produce perfection in God for He makes all things work out for good.

He went on to add;

Daddy Owen’s hot wife, Farida

Thank you for your encouragement and as I journey through this season, I request for time, patience and lots of prayers as you have always supported me in my Ministry,

I appreciate you for always being there and remain confident God will see us through. Love conquers all and Love covers a multitude of sins. God Bless you all”

Daddy Owen issues official statement weeks after wife allegedly ditched him for rich tycoon

Rumor making rounds on social media is that gospel artist Daddy Owen; is currently single after his wife allegedly walked out on him. From the posts shared by most tabloids, they claim that Farida Wambui walked out on hubby for the first two weeks of December and never returned since then.

Well a close relative to the couple went on to open up about the scandal saying; Farida is currently engaged to a rich tycoon from Gilgil. He said,

Daddy Owen with alleged ex wife, Farida

“Farida is secretly engaged to a tycoon from Gilgil who owns a luxury hotel. Daddy Owen only got to find out she is engaged through pals. The ostentatious engagement ceremony was hosted in Naivasha.”

He went on to reveal that Wambui had lied that she had travelled for a business trip; only for Daddy Owen to learn that she was eloped with new bae, Njuguna.

Daddy Owen speaks for the first time

Well judging from how long these two have been married; we really find this as a clout chasing move as it would both hurt their image.

To prove how true the story is, Daddy Owen earlier today issued an official statement thanking everyone for standing with him; he wrote;

Eric Musyoka, the iconic producer who took Kenyan music to greater heights

It’s hard to talk about Kenyan music without mentioning the name of Decimal Records CEO Eric Musyoka, popularly known as Musyox. He has been very instrumental in shaping the Kenyan sound.

In the early to mid 2000s when Calif Records and Ogopa Deejays were beefing, the award-winning producer, who is now 38, was working at Homeboyz Entertianment.

Musyoka

While at the stable which is owned by the Rabar family, Musyoka produced songs for the musicians like; Prezzo, TID, Mr Lenny, Nameless, AY, Wyre, Peter Miles, Nikki, Nonini, just to name a few.

He then took a break and went for further studies at the SAE Institute in the US in 2006. Upon his return, he formed Decimal Records and signed P-Unit.

If you ask me, I will tell you that the group that was made up Frasha, Bon Eye and Gabu is one of Musyoka’s greatest achievements to this day. He literally propelled them to greater heights.

Musyoka and Bon Eye

What most people do not know is that the three started off as Nonini’s dancers and back-up singers and by 2010 they had won several awards including a MTV Africa Music Award (MAMA). Take a moment and let that sink in.

At Decimal, Musyoka has also worked with Just A Band, Juliani, Daddy Owen, Sauti Sol, Elani, Octopizzo and many more. Put simply, there is a high chance that he has produced a jam for your favourite Kenyan artist.

When all is said and done, he will be remembered for nurturing talents and taking Kenyan music to the continental stage because he started  producing music at a time when most artists were just focusing on their local audiences.

Musyoka is one of the producers who changed the game by ensuring our music could transcend our borders and this led to artists getting so many shows outside the country.

He’s a legend in his own right and it saddens me that most people will realize this after he hangs up his boots because as they say, you never miss something until it’s gone.

Watch one of his most popular jams dubbed Furahi Day by Nonini and Nameless below.

Kenyan gospel artists must wake up

A few months ago, I wrote an article where I stated that Kenyan gospel artists were deep in slumber reason being the industry is not as vibrant as it was 5 (or so) years ago.

Also read: Are Kenyan gospel musicians asleep?

Whichever way you look at it, the gospel industry seems to be lagging behind and that is something that is giving me sleepless nights because Kenya is a very religious country.

Mercy Masika
Mercy Masika

If you look at the biggest local songs this year, you’ll realize that most of them are risqué and I doubt there is a gospel singer who can say that he or she had a hit this year. Of course, Willy Paul does not count or does he?

I miss the days when the likes of Gloria Muliro (where did she disappear to btw?), Daddy Owen, Eunice Njeri, Mercy Masika, Marion Shakoo, Esther Wahome, M.O.G etc. would serve us with hit after hit.

Gospel concerts sold out in a matter of minutes and gospel award shows such as Groove Awards were really coveted. Those were the days when the gospel industry was at the top.

I don’t really know what happened but somewhere along the way, the rain started beating us so much so that almost everything has been dominated by secular artists. From radio and TV stations to awards shows.

M.O.G

To be honest, I don’t have a problem with secular artists. Afterall, they are also Kenyans and at the end of the day it’s a win for local music but at times I wonder what happened to gospel musicians? Did they get too comfortable?

Not that it’s a competition between the two camps but I’d prefer a situation where we have popular secular songs and popular gospel jams. All I am saying is that it’s high time Kenyan gospel musicians woke up from their deep sleep.

Daddy Owen is back with ‘Mwokozi’ alongside Washington Libango and it’s fire (Video)

Celebrated gospel singer Owen Mwatia, popularly known as Daddy Owen, has dropped a new jam with Washington Libango who hails from Congo.

The song titled Mwokozi talks about how God is always on our side to lead us as we journey through life with all the challenges that we might encounter along the way.

As you would expect, this song has some elements of Lingala thanks to Washington Libango but it does not come close to System Ya Kapungala. That was a classic.

As I was listening to this song, I kept wondering what happened to Daddy Owen. Clearly, he has lost his mojo. He’s no longer the Papa Fololo that we all knew.

Washington Libango
Washington Libango

To be honest, this song would be really flat if Washington Libango was not in it. The Lingala element has brought life to this jam otherwise, no one would waste time listening to it.

I loved the choreography by Aggie The Dancer and the Sarakasi Dancers. Perhaps, that is why I played it a couple of times. Other than that, there’s nothing to write home about this song.

The video was directed by Brian Mhando (Onfon Media) and produced by Phil Makanada at Mainswitch Studios. In my opinion, their work was average, there’s nothing stellar about the video or the audio.

Watch Mwokozi below and tell us what you think.

Daddy Owen and Moji Short Baba have teamed up on an a new jam titled ‘Sitadanganya’ and we love it (Video)

I never thought this day would come but it’s here ladies and gentlemen! Two of Kenya’s biggest gospel musicians, Daddy Owen and Moji Short Baba, have finally released a collabo!

Also read: Kenyan gospel musicians who rarely write their songs and what it means

Dubbed Sitadanganya, which is a Swahili word which means I won’t lie, the song talks about giving God credit for what he has done in you life.

Has He brought you far? Has He done great things in your life? Has He dressed you up? Then there’s no need to lie about it. It was by His strength, not yours!

Moji Short Baba and Daddy Owen
Moji Short Baba and Daddy Owen

As expected, both Daddy Owen and Moji Short Baba had great lyrical delivery in this song. I wasn’t expecting anything less.

The words used are simple and if you are the kind that like to master songs, you’ll grasp Sitadanganya after listening to it twice, maybe thrice.

The song was produced by Teddy B and as you can expect, the beat is pretty decent and it slaps hard. It’s has the vibe of urban gospel song!

The video was directed by Steve Mugo. In my opinion, he also did a great job, especially because he brought the simple shoot locations to life. The scene transitioning is also great!

Watch Sitadanganya here and tell us what you think.

Kenyan gospel musicians who rarely write their songs and what it means

Songwriting is a practice that exists all over the world. It has been around for ages. Some of the greatest musicians of all time, including Michael Jackson, had songwriters. It’s a career as any so there’s nothing wrong with it.

I, however, have some concerns about songwriting in the gospel industry, especially in Kenya. I’m of the opinion that this practice should not exist and I’ll try my best to explain why.

You see, some of the biggest gospel musicians in our country rarely write their songs, they might have the mellowest voices around but they can’t pen down a song or hardly do so.

Mercy Masika’s Mwema and Nikupendeze were written by Mr. Vee, Shule Yako was written by Pitson.

Pitson

Moji Short Baba was the brains behind most of DK Kwenye Beat’s songs in the last one year, including Kijana Wa Kayole, Kwa Yesu Sawa. He also wrote Kumbe Kumbe by Bahati and Mr. Seed.

A chap known as Godson Jawabu wrote DK Kwenye Beat’s Asusu and Sari Sari.

Pitson also wrote Daddy Owen’s Vanity, Size 8’s Afadhali Yesu and Pale Pale, Makena’s Narudi, Laura Karwirwa’s Ni Neema Yako, among others.

These are just a few examples. They paint a picture of what the local gospel industry has become – a money making venture.

Do you feel a little bit disappointed when you discover that your favourite gospel was not written by the person who sang it? Of course yes.

The notion behind religion is that the man above should use you as a vessel to pass the message of salvation to others. So, what happens when you bought the ‘message’ from another person? Are you a vessel?

On the other hand, assuming the songwriters don’t do it for free, which is pretty obvious, does it mean that they are selling the gospel?

This article was not meant to ridicule any gospel singer, its purpose is to provoke a discussion. What do you think about all this? Leave a comment below.

Daddy Owen proves he’s not an ‘instagram dad’ and spends time with his kid: We take long drives to bond

A quick look at Instagram you’ll find younger men posting their sons and daughters almost everyday and sharing how special they are to them. Still, most of these kids’ mothers are out here calling out their men for not spending time with their children. Such men are usually refereed to as instagram fathers who only share photos but spend months before spending quality with their kids.

Gospel singer Daddy Owen, however, shed light that he doesn’t belong to this bashed category of  dads.

In an interview with Word Is, the singer said that he drops off his kid at school instead of paying for a bus.

“Fatherhood is okay. Every day I learn something new from the kids. You know being a parent helps one understand better the struggles our parents went through when we were young.Being a father also makes one understand things they could not understand before. I always drop my son to school every morning, despite the fact the school offers an option where one can pay for transport when paying school fees,” he said.

Bonding during weekends

Another thing that Daddy Owen, who welcomed his second born with wife Farida Wambui last year June, does to connect with his son is take long drives during the weekends.

“Technology has taken over. Instead of them spending all their time in the house playing video games, we take long drives. That’s one way for us to bond and know what’s going on in his life. It’s very important to me. On weekends we also take long drives alone.” he said.

Married gospel singer accused of neglecting his side dish:We met at a night club, he got me pregnant and now he’s not supporting the baby

Gospel singers once in a while find themselves in trouble and fans haven’t been shy of judging them.

The recent culprit is singer Ole Willy who is being accused by his baby mama of neglecting his son sired three years ago.

A quick take through on who Ole Willy is; he was introduced in the music industry by veteran singer Daddy Owen and Danco after they collaboed in “Hafungi Macho”. He also done songs such as ‘Khubira Byosi’ featuring Pastor Timothy Kituyi and “Maskio Ya Mungu.”

With that said, let’s get back to the drama.

The Eldoret based singer, who is married with two kids, is being accused by his baby mama Lyn for neglecting his baby.

Speaking to The Star, Lyn narrated how they met in a club in Nairobi and kicked off their relationship.

“I met Ole Willy at a city night club back in 2016 and was introduced to him by a mutual friend. We clicked and started dating. In the same year, I gave birth and we kept it on the low. He promised to be sending 5k every month for the child’s upkeep, but he rarely fulfills his promise. At times he sends less or doesn’t send anything at all. In December he sent 2k only.” she said.

She added:

“I started digging for information about him to know the kind of man my baby daddy was, only to find out that out that he had a family. He keeps telling me that if I go to court, he will not provide even that 2k. And exposing him will be a waste of time because his fans will shut me up. He has never even bought a pair of socks for his son.”

Vague reply

The single mother went on to say that she just wants him to take responsibility for his child. When reached for comment, Ole Willy had a funny explanation before promising to call back.

“Whether I have a kid out of wedlock or not, in our culture I know it sounds bad. Because people will see you like you’ve been sidetracked or something,” he said.

Daddy Owen: Let’s not be quick to judge Octopizzo, let’s wait for the truth to come out

Gospel singer Daddy Owen has come out to quell hate spewed at rapper Octopizzo who is accused of having a hand in the death of 19-year-old Kenneth Abom.

Kenneth was reportedly assaulted by Octopizzo after the rapper found him in his house in unclear circumstance. The boy returned to their house in Woodley Estate with bloodstained t-shirt moments before he fell through the window from their fourth floor apartment.

He was rushed to Nairobi Women’s Hospital before being referred to Kenyatta National Hospital where he died on Saturday January 19th at around 10am.

Don’t be quick to judge

Section of Kenyans on Twitter are squarely blaming Octopizzo for Kenneth’s untimely death. Daddy Owen however asks critics to exercise restraint until the whole truth comes out.

“Let’s wait for the truth to come out….. Let’s not be quick to judge,” Daddy Owen tweeted.

In another tweet, he he said;

“Let’s leave ths story to our able investigators to do thr job. Let’s not be quick to judge. I pray for the Family who lost thr son/brother. ..”

Maina Kageni to Daddy Owen: We can’t play 100% Kenyan music that is trash, give us good songs

Unlike Jalang’o who is trying to be moderate telling Kenyan musicians that their bad songs could be played on radio, Maina Kageni has no time to pamper musicians who produce trash.

The Classic FM presenter has joined the heated conversation about Kenyan songs getting 100% airplay. Khaligraph and many other musicians are blaming TV and radio presenters for favoring foreign content over Kenyan music.

Maina Kageni was forced to join the conversation after gospel singer Daddy Owen took to social media to also blast relevant people for ‘killing’ Kenyan music.

“Editor ndio predator, manager ndio damager, producer ndio reducer, promoter ndio demoter, publisher ndio punisher, this is kenya,” wrote Daddy Owen on Instagram.

Give us good content to push

Maina responded to Daddy Owen saying that his music gets a lot of airplay. He however told the gospel singer to tell his fellow musicians to give presenters good songs that will push foreign content off the Kenyan playlists.

“I agree!!!!! But tell your contemporaries to give us content that will PUSH foreigners off our playlists…. you are highly rotated… advise them what they need to do to be the next @daddyowen….” Maina Kageni responded to Daddy Owen.

I was a hardcore thug and a crowd tried killing me – Daddy Owen on why he has a bad eye

You might know him from his inspirational gospel songs but some know him for his past criminal life.

Singer Daddy Owen, before he picked up a microphone and decided to make lovely gospel music, was a hardcore criminal in Umoja Estate.

In an interview with Kiss FM, the singer shared why he has squinted eyes saying that it’s because of a beating he got from an angry audience he was trying to rob in his thieving days after High School.

“My friends and I had planned to steal in a matatu, but things did not turn out well as the people in that matatu beat me up. I came to Nairobi from shags, met different people here, and as a young person, I wanted to fit in the crew. I joined a gang that we used to call ‘Mbogi’, and our work was to rob from people. I don’t like this story but I want to inspire someone who will hear it. I became a thug for two to three years,” he said.

Killings

Police started killing members of the gang one by one but this didn’t shake Daddy Owen.

“Most of my friends were killed, others burned down to ashes but I still did it. You know it is only serious when it happens to you? There were no phones and so my friends realised that there were askaris in that car and left without my knowledge. Like we had planned, I started the mission of stealing from the back seats but I was caught and badly beaten. That is when my eye was pierced,” he said.

He realized that he needed to change his life or he’ll also be killed just like his friends.

“I realised I needed to change my life as well as behaviour. I had fought so hard to fit in the gang, but all of them did not come to visit me in hospital. The most supportive person was my brother Rufftone, who completely stood by me because my dad was away, working to keep the family going. He was the big brother and he really helped me. He mentored me and my music journey was inspired by him. Immediately after I was discharged from hospital, I got saved,” Owen said.

“Scan results showed umbilical cord was around baby’s neck” Daddy Owen narrates how his wife was forced to deliver prematurely

Daddy Owen and his wife Farida Wambui Kamau were blessed with a bouncing baby boy sometimes in July 2018. The couple nearly lost their baby were it not for quick intervention from doctors.

Speaking during an interview with Word Is, Daddy Owen reveals that they had gone for last checkup when his wife complained of pain forcing the doctor to order a scan.

The results showed that the umbilical cord had wrapped around the baby’s neck. Daddy Owen’s wife was forced to go undergo emergency caesarean section.

“The biggest challenge was after the last check with the doctor, just before booking the hospital for delivery. The doctor told us to go for a scan because my wife said she was in pain, yaani kama labour pain, yet her due date was not near. We went for the scan and the results showed that the cord was around the baby’s neck… Thank God my late dad told me that pregnancy matters need to be planned for in advance, so I was ready financially. Farida was forced to go through emergency delivery five weeks before her due date,” Daddy Owen narrated.

Babies end up dying

Daddy Owen says that doctors told him that babies end up dying if the situation (cord wrapping around the neck) is not detected early.

“The doctor said for a very long time he has had such cases, and those kids ended up dying. I was so stressed about losing my son. I decided to ask the doctor what the reason could be, and he said there is no documented reason.”

Mafia system! How Daddy Owen and Ian Mbugua forced Nonini to resign from his powerful position at PRISK

Nonini resigned as the board chairman of Performers Rights Society of Kenya (PRISK) on August 8th 2018. The Genge rapper accused some board members of sabotaging his work as the chairman.

In his resignation letter, Nonini says PRISK has been excluding other mandated bodies in collecting royalties jointly as stipulated in the law.

“My wife is private. Yeye ni daktari, mimi ni musician, and therefore, I chose to be who I am today but for her, she did not choose this kind of life of always being in public. Even my son, no one has ever seen him on social media, and you might never see him there. I like my family to be private and that is why they love it that way. The moment you start exposing your family to the public, you expect the same backlash you get, they also get. For me, I know how to handle the public, but for them, they do not, and that will affect them,” said Daddy Owen during an interview with Word Is.

Marriage

Daddy Owen also opened up about marriage during the interview. He reveals that his marriage rocks even though he admits he’s facing several challenges.

“Marriage is amazing, though it has its ups and down. What I always say is that marriage is like a jiko, lazima upepete. If you do not pepeta, the fire will die, and similar to marriage, the work of a husband is to make sure the fire does not die.”

Daddy Owen advises Gloria

Daddy Owen shared marriage advice while speaking in a recent interview with a local daily. Papa Fololo says Gloria Muliro should remain single for the rest of her life.

The ‘Jumapili’ hit maker explains that is not proper for a gospel musician to remarry again once they divorces. Daddy Owen says that Gloria Muliro should remain single until death.

“If a gospel singer’s spouse dies, one can remarry because it was not their decision for that to happen but when one divorces, that one should never marry because it was their decision like the case Gloria Muliro, she should not go back to being married. You should stay like that till you die,” Daddy Owen said.
