I will help Kenyan artists fight depression- UK-based artist says after Papa Dennis’ death

Former Tusker Project Fame participant has come out to reveal that he fought with depression for a long time while trying to get professional help.

Didier Madzayo took to social media to open up on his battle following the passing of gospel singer Papa Dennis, who is said to have committed suicide after losing to depression.

“It’s been weighing on my mind all week and I am taking responsibility to speak about it again. One may easily think that superstars or celebrities have it all. Well, the truth is that depression can affect celebrities too. Let me enlighten you, —wealth and fame are no protection against this debilitating health condition,” said Madzayo on Instagram.

Help

He went on to share his journey in a depression saying that at one point preachers claimed he was possed.

“I am a victim of depression and I’ve seen some dark times, especially with the depressive phase of the illness. My dear friend suffered in silence. Now before I go deeper into what I am about to say, please note that; this post does not in any way elaborate what actually led to the death of @realpapadennis and I do not know what led to his death.” he added.

Now, Madzayo is working with different mental organizations and is willing to help other Kenyans artists overcome. Madzayo, who is currently in UK, will be reaching everyone out to those who approach him regarding the issue and how they can go about it.
