Perhaps it’s time for Elani to pursue solo careers to thrive again

Elani have been on hiatus for an entire minute. No really, they have been so silent, I thought they had entered a monastery and taken a solemn vow of silence.

Maureen got married and Edward Chweya had a child. Since then, we have only been treated to a handful of songs and damn near no performances.

I cannot blame them having heard the issues they had faced in their artistic journey, to the point of them getting into debt just to put on shows and entertain their fans. And while one could argue that they have probably had poor management or that they do not understand the difference between show business and entertainment but that is not the complete picture.

“I was just killing myself slowly” Elani’s Maureen Kunga opens up about letting go of a pain she held on for years

Whatever your take, Elani has slowed down significantly. And that is what we are gathered here today to discuss why they probably should take a stab at individual careers. You see, the trio have grown right in front of our eyes, from being young friends in college, coming together simply for the music, to them graduating and continuing to pursue music to them starting families and slowing down with the musical production.
This journey has shown us how simultaneous things can be with them growing as individuals to their career as a collective stalling.

Elani

Elani are probably burnt out from all their struggles and perhaps now they should chase solo glory and see where it takes them. With life slowing down, perhaps this is the time for the introspection needed to make that decision.
Maureen is now a wife. This journey is unique from what the rest of the group have experienced. Perhaps this lends itself to her music. Wambui is still single (marital status) but seeing her friend get married is bound to have elicited some emotions and whether positive or not, she can tap into them for inspiration. And Chweya is a father now. So he can sing about that journey.

Whatever Elani decide to do, the fact still remains that their group has become stale and this might be just the kick they need to get their creative juices flowing again. Because when we look at their first contemporaries, it was Sauti Sol. And the boy band has never gone this long without delivering music or touring to perform their music.
So Elani’s silence is bound to not only draw questions but comparisons.

Elani

There is no shame in going your individual ways and then reuniting later. Destiny ‘s Child did so and it bolstered their individual careers but also built hunger for Destiny Child’s projects. Perhaps Elani can also recreate the same path for themselves. But one thing is certain, this would be a bold move.

Elani with lovely love song dubbed Joto

Elani are back with a new song dubbed Joto. This jam is the fourth song of their single album, Colours of Love. To start with, the trio has released this song just on time.

Joto is a song that mostly talks of love and as we are nearing the Valentines season, you’ll realise that it is a perfect time.

Joto is a love song that talks of when people come together

First, Joto talks about a time when people are willing to come together and commit to being with one another.

To add on it continues the red phase of the journey of Colours of Love with deep, committed love.

At this juncture, it is a good thing that we focus on the lyrics to get the flow of this jam. You realise that the trio has great voices that compliment each other.

How sweet are the lyrics?

In the first stanza, they talk of how one is glued to a specific person.

“Wengi wamezaliwa duniani Nataka tu mi niwe nawe Nataka tu mi niwe nawe,” reads the first stanza.

Further into the Joto, one is pleading to be with the person they love in this world. She says that she has made a decision to stick to that love.

“Malaika nataka niwe nawe Kwenye dunia Siku zimepita  Milele na milele nimeamua Tuwe tu milele Mi nawe ni mi nawe Ni mi nawe,” reads the song further.

In addition to the powerful lyrics, it is good to note that Elani in the song has a new style. Dramatisation has been used here giving it a very unique style.

Also, repetition has been applied as you realise that most lines are sung more than once. Finally, the chemistry that lies behind the three beautiful voices is just great.

In conclusion, Elani have done a great job and this is just perfect for lovers. It is clear that their song is good for weddings as well.

Last but not least, Elani gets a rating of 7/10.

Maureen of Elani shares her weight loss journey and it’s better than anything you’ll hear today

Singer Maureen Kunga of Elani has come out to share how she managed to lose 16 Kgs in a rather painful and scary journey.

On Instagram, she opened up how her weight stressed her. According to the singer, it took her a lot of sweat, disincline and healthy eating to get back in shape.

Here’s what she said in her post while also launching her YouTube Channel:

“Long. Long. Truthful. Post.  This is both a very scary thing to do and something that is giving me so much pride today. I achieved something I had never thought possible and I’m proud of myself for it. For years, my weight was a genuine cause of pain – something I never openly discussed, maybe because of fear of insult, maybe because it was truly something that I thought I would never be able to overcome.

“Maybe because I was truly embarrassed and ashamed to be so heavy. I tried and failed, used horrible “quick-result” methods of weight loss that never stuck. I broke myself down in my mind and could not see myself as anything other than a “fat girl”.

“I destroyed my own self esteem. But in 2016 I made the decision that I would stop punishing myself and I would give myself permission to take my weight-loss into my own hands and find something I can commit to. And here we are! 16kgs (and a few to go), and a whole lot of self esteem later, I am happy, and I am proud.

“The entire video explaining my journey to health is in the link in my bio. I would love it if you would watch it and we can compare notes and discuss our experiences. Then subscribe to my brand new YouTube channel(!!!!) and let’s find a sustainable way to health together! (Side Note: I was VERY shocked when I saw a TBT of the old picture on the internet.

“I immediately went to find that dress, wore it, and had to hold it taut behind me for it to look normal. I don’t know if I’ve ever been so proud of myself, and that green dress represents a lot for me now)

“Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes. Nothing is for everybody. This was for me, and I would love to create a platform where we can all know that beauty is DEFINITELY not skin deep! It took me chasing a healthy lifestyle to truly learn that♥♥♥ And I would like to wish myself a happy birthday and pat myself on the back. Because I did a good thing for myself.”

Watch! Elani release new song and album after long hiatus

Popular group Elani has finally released their new album ‘Color Of Love’ and their first track is called Heart beat. Dressed in nothing but yellow, the trio launched the song on Kiss FM in the morning with Shaffie Weru and Adele Onyango.

Speaking on why they had taken a hiatus, they said:

“I think the story as it goes some of us were finding ourselves, rumors pursuing solo career, another one got married, we also heard we pursued further studies, but in reality we were working learning and growing and making sure when we come back we are good,” they said.

Adding:

“I think its constantly like that for any artiste, and the thing is as an artiste you need to take time to create your craft. before you give it out. i would have wanted to remove the whole in January but it was impossible because of different circumstances. but as an artiste you must take time out to reflect,…….but we are here now,” they said.

Elani’s Maureen Kunga shows off her make up free face, she is a natural beauty!

She was recently rumored to have dumped her band mates to venture into a solo musical career but it now seems that Maureen changed her mind and is back with Elani…hopefully for good this time around.

Anyway, have you ever known that she is a natural beauty? In fact after sharing her makeup free photos on her Instagram, we can now agree that even without a scrap of beauty product on her visage Maureen Kunga is as beautiful as always.

She joins the list of Kenyan celebrities who can comfortably share photos of their make up free faces without caring what their audiences might say.

So far Avril has shared hers and truth be told…this might have been one hard time she has had to face after her own friends roasted her for having acne.

However, as for Maureen Kunga things seemed different as she captioned the photo saying…
