Grace Msalame to sue organisers of Miss Curvy Uganda for using her image

Media personality Grace Msalame might be heading to court soon after Ministry of Tourism in Uganda used her photo to promote a curvy ladies’ event.

Msalame took to Twitter to share that MissCurvyUganda2019 has used her photo to promote the pageant without her consent.

“I take great exception to the fact that my image and likeness are being used to propagate, disseminate and encourage the objectification of women’s bodies. I do not endorse or agree with such a message,” her statement read.

Women who are blessed

The law suit comes just days after Uganda announced that it’s planning to use it’s curvy women as a tourist attraction. According to Tourism Minister Godfrey Kiwanda, the country has well endowed women and the nation plans to capitalize on that.

Grace, however, doesn’t understand why they have used her image if that’s so.

“Miss Curvy Uganda’s deliberate and calculated use of my image and likeliness to promote and encourage violation of women’s bodies has defamed my character and reputation, damaged a brand I have worked for many years to establish, and subjected me to unwarranted and undeserved cyber bullying,” she went on.

And honestly….the stories are both heartbreaking but also powerful vibes of people who want to make a difference in the lives of children. It is our responsibility to ensure we provide a good environment for kids to grow and thrive….do we even understand whats happening to kids especially in marginalised areas in Kenya? I cant wait to share with you more on the work being done…..and how everyone can play a role. It’s time to see how we can help the deprived and marginalized children in our country.” she posted.

Bleeding

Musalame, who has a pair of twins, went on to say that she didn’t get any warning symptoms before the surgery. She also bled a lot during the procedure, something that her Iron levels very low.

“What were the symptoms? Well this whole year I’ve had very heavy periods lasting a week plus until my anemia levels dropped to 9 almost 8 normal levels is at least 12 even though I’ve been working hard to boost my iron levels with our #GetYourIronUp Campaign little did I know I was loosing way too much blood so I had to treat that first then go in for surgery. Another symptom that can drive you crazy is how bloated you get sometimes even look Months pregnant Even after the surgery the swelling has taken time to go down but today there was a visible difference though I am still conscious until full recovery,” she said.

Adding:

“Fibroids are very common with us black women in fact I discovered that all the women from my late Dads side of the family have all had it so it can be genetic but no direct cause is linked to the growths. Healthy diet, exercise, good BMI all go a long way but doctors have told me that even the healthiest of women still get it so it really is unknown but my doctor is of the opine that the Uterus is made to create life so when one takes long gaps between having children or takes too long to have kids they have higher chances of getting them! So me and my 7yr gap someone tell the Mr my womb is ready On a serious note I’m so grateful to my doctor the hospital that took such good care of me of course my family& friends your love is a gift that reminds me of Gods Goodness. AsanteBig lesson 2018! In all things Give Thanx. Ata kwa haya nashukuru Mola for He is the knower of all.”

Why month of May is usually hard for Grace Msalame

May is one month Grace Msalame wishes she can skip.  The former Radio Africa Group employee opened recently saying the month is usually tough on her because she lost her dad and she has never healed.

“The month of may can be a bit of an emotional rollercoaster for me- because this is the month we lost our dad… and though 8 years later- the sting of death can still be piercing,” she said.

Adding:

“So just last week I had a rather surprise break-down which I realised later was because we sometimes forget that Love liberates- it doesn’t bind- hear my out! I know the love of Christ binds us together but it also sets us Free??”

She continued:

“I however also really wish he knew how much He was deeply loved by Christ and writing this makes me teary yet again, but one lesson you quickly learn when you loose someone you love is that the time you had with them is exactly the number of days you were meant to share with them! God’s Will is Perfect!

“So instead I’m learning to be grateful instead;- for the lessons learned, time shared and what we couldn’t achieve within that time is a reminder to be very intentional with those I have with me right now!

So I now ask myself if the ones I still have with me know how much I love them? does my love for them liberate them or bind them to be who they’re not? & do I share Christ with those in my sphere or am I keeping Him all to myself?

“All these questions remind me to be more present and again very intentional in all my relationships and interactions.

“My biggest take out this week as I take all this in- is Love Liberates! it sets us free and allows and embraces us to become who we inherently are and in that environment to bloom and blossom is a sure given! because we can only be our best selves if we are allowed and accepted in our truest forms!
