H_Art the Band’s Mordecai speaks about the Sol Generation deal

Speculation surrounding Mordecai ‘Dex’ Mwini’s recent signing with Sauti Sol’s record label, Sol Generation, prompted the founding member of H_Art The Band to clarify the status of the band’s unity.

Rumors emerged after Sol Generation announced Mordecai’s signing to their publishing label on a three-year deal, leading fans to question the fate of H_Art The Band and speculate about Mordecai’s departure.

In response, Mordecai took to social media to address the speculation directly, reassuring fans that H_Art The Band remains intact and active.

In a heartfelt video shared online, he expressed gratitude for the support and clarified his ongoing commitment to the band.

“First of all, thank you for all the congratulatory messages you guys have been sending me. I appreciate it, and in the same light, I have realized that there have been rumors going around that Mordecai Dex has left H_Art The Band,” Mordecai stated.

“I thought it very necessary to come here and clarify that, so I have not left H_Art The Band. H_Art The Band is very much alive, and we are working on new music that you guys need to watch out for,” he affirmed.

Mordecai went on to explain the nature of his partnership with Sol Generation, emphasizing that it is primarily a distribution agreement for his solo work as a songwriter and producer.

“What I signed was a publishing contract, and what some of you guys don’t know is that I am a songwriter and producer for other artists. There is music that I do outside of H_Art The Band, and that is the catalogue that Sol Generation is going to be handling for me,” he clarified.

Mordecai’s influence extends beyond performances, as he frequently collaborates with established artists and contributes his songwriting prowess to their work.

He also mentors aspiring musicians, nurturing talent and fostering growth within the music industry.

Recently, he served as a performance coach for the Press Play Artist Development Program organized by Sol Generation, aiming to provide emerging artists with the necessary skills and guidance to thrive in the music industry.

“Through his soulful melodies and deep-rooted appreciation for cultural expression, Dex endeavors to inspire and cultivate meaningful connections using the universal language of music and art,” stated Sol Generation Publishing.

Kenyan contestant stuns judges with an incredible H_art the Band  ‘Uliza Kiatu’ performance at the Voice of Germany 2020 competitions

It is undeniable that Kenya has some exceptional talents, if only they get the right platform to showcase what they got.

During the ongoing Voice of Germany Live auditions, a Kenyan living in the foreign land, Eugene Asira moved the crowd and judges after staging a groundbreaking performance of the hit song Uliza Kiatu.

The anthem was released by the popular group, H_art the Band back in September 2014 and to date, it remains a club banger.

The talented contestant awed the panel of judges who could not help but admit that he was good in the game, with a 4-chair turn that swept Eugene and his family that was on standby, off their feet.

A song sang by the 3 band members, with different vocal ranges but Eugene still aced the performance, taking up the parts of each artist to beautifully blend it into one.

From the pauses, to the umfs, to the emotions generated, to the ambiance in the packed theater, talk of the instruments, I mean, it is one of those places you wish you would be physically present, COVID-19 not withstanding.

Taking to the gram, the excited father of one, urged fans across the world to show their unflinching love and support as he takes over the stage.

Impressed at what he did during the blind auditions, H_art the band took to their timeline to congratulate the talent for making their brand global “????????????We are so Proud of you bro, wishing you all the best ????????????”.

A Kiswahili performance in the German motherland was sure the best it ever got. Literally, moving the panel of judges and the audience who probably could not understand what the words meant, but the emotions generated, the finesse from start to finish, I mean…

Naiboi is ahead of his time

Michael Kennedy Claver, better known as Naiboi, is without a doubt one of the few music geniuses that we have in the country at the moment. If you ask me, I’ll tell you that he’s way ahead of his time.

Also read: Naiboi has really slowed down lately

I have to admit that I was a little bit worried when I realized that the Pacho Records founder didn’t have a song whose success can be compared to 2018’s 2 in 1 then Sondeka All Stars Remix happened.

Naiboi

If you look at the artists who were featured on the song, from the new-age acts to those who have been in the game for longer, then you’ll appreciate Naiboi’s ingenuity.

Just like 2 in 1 – which was made up of short videos of celebrities singing along to the song – Sondeka All Stars Remix features artists who are constantly on the lips of Kenyans.

They are; Fena Gitu, Mordecai of H_art The Band, Visita, Benzema of Ochunglo Family, Kristoff, Ex Ray of Boondocks Gang, Femi One and Khaligraph Jones.

Chances are, your favourite artist(s) is among the aforementioned names and this will make you listen to the song, and when you do you’ll realize that it’s actually a masterpiece.

To prove that the project was a brilliant idea, it has not only clocked 300,000 views, which is really good, but it has also been on the top 5 trending songs since it was released.

Naiboi just doesn’t release music like most local artists, every step is well-thought-out and the end result is always amazing.

I don’t know what he is planning next but I can tell you for free that it will be unique and you will be left asking for more. Established artists who are struggling to stay afloat should take a cue form him.

“El-Shaddai song focuses on Mental Health” H_art the Band reveal

Kenyan acclaimed music trio, H_art the Band’s latest release ‘El Shaddai’ was in a bid to let out their suppressed emotions but in form of lyrics.

The boy band closed off 2019 with an audio release of the song, from their album ‘Made In The Streets’.

A song that not only explains God’s greatness but his unconditional love to us as imperfect beings.

‘El Shaddai’ marks the trio’s gospel debut – yet one so articulate and mind-blowing for anyone’s first.

How the song starts is just soothing to the soul, before that deep, enthralling bass that sweeps you off your feet.

If anything, the song speaks to our iniquities, our troubles, our low moments, when God just stretches out his hand when we are about to lose hope and picks us up.

H_art the Band

But what you might not know, is that even though most times artistes compose songs to suit their audience, more often than not, lyrics speak more to the artistes than they speak to the audience.

Explained

‘El Shaddai’ is a perfect example. The band apparently composed the song, in order to let out the feelings they have been bottling in for a while, but indirectly.

The band explained:

‘#ItakuwaFine’ campaign coined from lyrics from the song is meant to mostly focus on Mental Health and the importance of saying what you feel as opposed to bottling it in.

H_art the Band

The three gents who turn out to be introverts marked the start of their campaign dubbed ‘#ItakuwaFine’ with the gospel song.

They felt the need to start the campaign to aid individuals like them who lack the courage to speak out what they really feel.

Band member, Mordecai Mwini attested:

Through music, I can express myself, heal myself and others, make an impact and ultimately touch and change lives. This song did this and much more for me. I hope it does the same for anyone who hears it during these trying times.

H_art the Band member, Mordecai Mwini

Honestly, ‘El Shaddai’ is a song that carries a heavy message that lights you a candle in the midst of pitch darkness.

Premiered on the 19th of March 2020, the song features popular music producer, Cedo.

For H_art the Band, 2020 is meant to be their ‘Visual Year’, one where they would release more visuals than ever, in their 6 years in the industry.

Just listen to it, it just can’t be explained in words but in listening to it.

I almost can’t wait for more. Tell me what you think…

So, H_art The Band – the music group that became a household name after releasing Uliza Kiatu circa 2014 – is back with a new song and as expected, it’s really on point.

The track titled Black Sheep, which means an unwanted person or an outsider, is about being stuck in the friendzone and/or having to bear the pain of someone that you have strong feeling for love another person. Ouch!

H_art The Band
H_art The Band

For starters, I must say that I’m a huge fan of H_art The Band which is made up of; Mordecai Kimeu, Kenneth Muya and Wachira Gatama and so as you would guess, I have listened to this jam a couple of times since it came out.

When I first heard this song, which some people claim was first released four years (or so) ago, I wasn’t really getting the vibe because it’s kind of different from their previous releases.

But the more I listened to it is the more I realised what a beautiful composition it really is. Perhaps it is those kind of songs that you come to love with time or is it just me?

H_art The Band
H_art The Band

Mordecai really came through on this song. He has a glorious voice that makes you wish that you could also sing and maybe, just maybe, sweep all the girls off their feet.

The spoken word on the second verse by Wachira Gatama is also impeccable. I don’t know how he does it but this lad has a knack for telling stories like no one else can.

Notably, the background vocals are also on point, especially on the hook. They totally spiced up this track. I must say that the instrumentation is also perfect so much so that you would mistake it for a live acoustic concert.

H_art The Band has linked up with Cedo on a new jam titled ‘El Shaddai’ and it’s a big tune (Audio)

The song titled El Shaddai, which is from their recently released album Made In The Streets, talks about how God is great and his unconditional love.

I really love this song. As it begins, there’s a background vocalist who is belting out a deep bass that I can’t really get enough of.

But that’s not all. The fact that H_art The Band, which comprises of; Kenneth Muya, Wachira Gatama and Mordecai Kimeu released a gospel song is so mind-blowing.

H_art The Band
H_art The Band

The hook is simple, it goes like, “El Shaddai, uko na kile mi nadai, ulinipenda hata kama mi sifai, (El Shaddai*3), uko na kile mi nadai, ulinipenda hata kama mi sifai  El Shaddai El Shaddai

Of course, apart from the dope background vocalists, the Masheesha hitmakers also nailed it on this song, especially Mordecai, there is just something about his tenor that makes it awesome to listen to. It’s just unique in its own way.

The other thing that struck me was the instrumentation. Everything is so well arranged that you just want to listen to the song over and over. Props to Cedo.

I honestly can’t wait to review more songs from Hart The Band’s latest album because from the look of things, it’s too lit.

H_art The Band’s has featured Uganda’s Cindy Sanyu on ‘For You Remix’ and it’s a classic (Audio)

H_art The Band, a music group that became a household name after releasing Uliza Kiatu circa 2014, has released a new song with sultry Ugandan singer Cindy Sanyu.

The song titled For You (Remix), which is from their debut album dubbed Made In The Streets, is a remake of For You which was released by the band in 2016.

If you listen to the original song and the remake, you’ll notice that only that the only similarity is the hook. It underwent a complete transformation.

Cindy Sanyu
Cindy Sanyu

In my opinion, Cindy Sanyu really killed it on this jam, especially the part where she introduces a dancehall/ragga vibe. She also did well on the background vocals.

To add to that, she really has a beautiful voice. The kind that you would listen to all day and not get tired of. We’ll talk about her beauty some other day.

Of course, H_art The Band also came through on this lit jam. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting anything less from them.

However, I must admit that of the trio, I think Mordecai totally killed it. There’s just something unique about his tenor that makes it awesome to listen to.

I also loved the spoken word by Wachira Gatama. I was really awesome. Actually, it took me back to the time when Uliza Kiatu was being played everywhere.

H_art The Band

The beat for this jam, which was done by Ulopa Ngoma, is also a vibe. As you listen to it, you won’t resist the urge to nod your hear or bust a move.

I know people who are fans of both H_art The Band and Cindy Sanyu had a treat of a lifetime. This jam is definitely one for the books.

I honestly can’t wait to listen to and review more songs from Hart The Band’s debut album because from the look of things, it’s totally out of this world.

The song titled Lover Lover, which is from their debut album Made In The Streets, is one song that will make you hit the replay button a couple of times.

As the title suggests, this song is about a feeling of strong or constant affection for a person. More often than not, you don’t have have to say it because they can feel it.

H_art The Band
H_art The Band

If you are a fan of both Bensoul and H_art The Band then I am sure you’ve been looking forward to the day they treat us with a collabo. Well, that day is finally here.

The word that aptly describes this song is magical. This song is really a vibe. I played it a couple of times and I’m still in love with it.

H_art The Band members namely; Mordecai Kimeu, Kenneth Muya and Wachira Gatama came through on this jam. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting anything less from them.

However, I must say that of the trio, I think Mordecai totally killed it. There is just something unique about his tenor that makes it awesome to listen to.

Bensoul
Bensoul

Bensoul also nailed it. From the way he sings in this jam, anyone can easily tell that this jam has a deeper meaning to him, maybe just maybe, he had a particular person in mind when he was penning his verse. Sorry ladies.

The beat and instrumetalization for this jam is also dope. Although this is not the kind of jams that you would expect people to dance to, I would not be surprised if I saw someone busting a move to it. Props to the producer.

I honestly can’t wait to listen to and review more songs from Hart The Band’s debut album because from the look of things, it’s totally out of this world.

The word that aptly describes this song is magical. This song is really a vibe. I played it a couple of times and I’m still in love with it. What a time to be alive.

One of the many things that I love about this jam is the background vocals by Willis Austin Chimano. He aced it ladies and gentlemen. His unique voice spiced the song.

I also loved Mudigi Savara’s and Bien Baraza’s verses, especially the part where Bien gave a shout out to his Rongai people. Okay, I’m kidding.

Seyi Shay

As the title suggests, this song is about taking the first place in the life of your lover or better half. Put simply, it’s about being given or giving her/him priority.

In my opinion, Seyi Shay totally killed it on this jam, especially the parts where she’s singing in Swahili. She really spiced up this jam.

To add to that, she really has a beautiful voice. The kind that you would listen to all day and not get tired of. We’ll talk about her beauty some other day.

H_art the band suffers poor treatment at Choma na Ngoma event

Popular boy band H_art the band this past weekend found themselves at an awkward position thanks to the Choma na Ngoma event organizers.

Word making rounds on social media is that the well known boy band was forced to perform last during the much hyped second edition Choma na Ngoma festival at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre.

Apparently songstress Alicios started off the performance then was followed by Nandy and Willy Paul who swept many off their feet. Sauti Sol then came later to take H_art the Bands place since one of them had an early morning flight.

Mistreated at home

However one would expect that H_art the Band to perform next – but seems that the event organizers had someone else in mind.

Well, Nigeria’s Patoranking got to perform next which put H_art the band last. This is however not the first time the boy band is facing poor treatment at an event.

H_art the band

In 2017 during the BBQ Live headlined by Wizkid; H_art the band was mistreated by the organizers of the event after being hurriedly informed to step on the stage despite having had part of their team frozen at the enterance.

Through their Instagram page, H_art the band shared the post below hinting about the lesson learnt during the Choma na Ngoma festival.

H_art The Band makes good music but no one cares

There very few people who make good music in Kenya and when I say good I mean the kind that you would be totally comfortable listening to or watching with your an elder person, say your parents.

H_art The Band, a group that is made up of Kenneth Muya, Wachira Gatama and Mordecai Kimeu, falls in this category. Their songs are not only enjoyable, they also reasonate with people across all ages – whether young or old.

H_art The Band
H_art The Band

However, for one reason or the other, I feel like they are really underrated and unappreciated. If you ask anyone which songs by H_art The Band they know, most people will just mention Uliza Kiatu which was released 5 years ago so.

The all-boy band has released so many songs after Uliza Kiatu – the song that thrust them into the limelight. Some of them are; Rosella, Love Phobic, Baby Love, Nikikutazama, Masheesha, Adabu, just to name a few.

Do you know any of the aforementioned songs? Well, you might also not know is that they recently released a new album dubbed Made In The Streets. Were you aware of this? I guess not.

I had a chance to listen to the 13-track album and I can tell you that it’s a masterpiece. I’m not even exaggerating. I will definitely review it one these fine days to get some of you to appreciate their craft.

In as much as the new-age artists, who sing about the most random things, have taken over, that does not mean we should forget about beautiful music from H_art The Band and the likes. Enough said!

H_art the band involved in yet another road accident

Uliza Kiatu hit makers were yesterday involving in a road accident that left their bumper damaged as reveal on their social media pages.

They shared a photo to show how damaged their was and captioned it to thank God for helping each one of them walk out alive once more from the accident.

“Sasa hizi ndio gani aaarghh!!!”

This is however not the first time the boys are getting caught up in this kind of situation and for a minute I am now starting to question their driving skills. Sometime last year they also revealed to have been involved in an accident along road and announced this through their Instagram page as they wrote to say,

“Truly, God is our Healer & Our Protector. This morning we got into a grisly accident & we Thank the Lord that none of us got seriously injured but one thing for sure is, for that split second just as we thought it was our last God rescued us & reminded us that truly, if the Lord is With You then nothing can harm you. We maybe in pain but don’t worry, we are OK *sisi ni maninja, we will survive*. Thank you all who put us in your Prayers Daily they keeps us going through our day., may the Lord Bless you”

Below is the photo they shared after their first accident.

Drama as H_art the band get arrested at the Koroga Festival

Popular H_art the band this past weekend were to spend their chilled out Sunday at the Koroga Festival held at the Carnivore grounds where Tanzanian super star Diamond Platnumz was set to perform.

However things did not go as planned as they bumped into cops who ended up changing their plans. As revealed through their social media page, h_art the bad says they were involved in a car police chase around the Parking lot before they were arrested.

According to their post, having grown in the hood has taught them to always watch out for cops. Having that mentality they chose to get involved in the chase that saw them spend 12 hours in police custody simply because they did not use the right communication skills to explain themselves to the police. They wrote saying….

“We were being car-chased all round the parking lot by Police officers Left right and centre ? For a second we felt like we I were in a Fast & Furious sequel ?
Please Understand this, we had not done anything wrong But from where we are From- the streets of KAYOLELESHWA- when we see the Cops coming towards you ,it’s either you take a U-TURN && Run or wait up for them a and feel the wrath ? We decided to go with the latter – RUUUNNN!!! Like in every great Police /Robber movie ,we got arrested? This was when Sh** got ReaL ? Put in mind the fact that ,the whoLe essence of running is not to get Caught – I geuss we didn’t get the memo ?
After getting arrested ,being thrown in jaiL ,spending almost 12hrs in a back _& forth trying to convince the cops that we didn’t run Because we were in the wrong – we Learnt a very important Lesson ? COMMUNICATION: How you address someone at the first instant is key to deciding the direction that conversation will taKe #truth ? Whether or not you are the one on the rigHt / wronG #trustUs ? Also, our reaction when the cops approached us brings the question that, if those who are supposed to protect you instill fear in you – How saFe are We ❓❔❓ Forgive our manners.”
