IEBC cancels results in Kilgoris after total number of votes cast exceeded number of registered voters

Election results at a polling station in Kilgoris, Narok County has been canceled due to rigging. The discrepancy was discovered when the total number of votes cast exceeded number of registered voters.

During a press briefing at Bomas of Kenya yesterday August 9th, a journalist raised the issue of the discrepancy in Kilgoris when IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati was addressing members of the fourth estate.

IEBC decided to cancel the results at Enenkeshui polling centre in Kilgoris following the anomaly. Kilgoris constituency returning officer Elijah Ombogo confirmed that the total number of registered voters at Enenkeshui polling centre is 285 while the total number of votes cast on Tuesday was 325.

Mr Ombogo said that the presiding officer in charge of the centre should write a statement to explain how the situation came to be. He

The Kilgoris constituency returning officer expressed disappointment with the work done by some of his officials; some presiding officers sealed off the form containing the results together with the register of voters while others arrived at the tallying centre either with a form not duly signed or without any form at all.
