Maureen Kunga opens up about having ‘negative thoughts’ about her body

Maureen Kunga recently took to Instagram on February 2 to open up about something we all go through: having insecurities about our bodies.

According to the lady, for years she tried to hide her smile thanks to her gummy smile. In the detailed post shared on her page, Ms Kunga went on to reveal how much she used to hate her smile as she wrote;

Elani’s maureen weight loss journey

I used to HATE my smile ???? Hate it. Because my teeth are small and my gums show, and in Hollywood and all these other places where they try to set beauty standards for us, ALL you see is TEETH! ????

Embracing herself

But with time, Maureen has since learnt how to appreciate herself and so far; she has no problem with her smile. To prove this, the lady shared a never seen before photo where she captioned;

Maureen Kunga’s stunning smile

Only recently am I starting to learn how beautiful we really are when the emotions are genuine. And this is a VERY genuine smile ???? also shout out to the guy holding the umbrella. Because it was HOT! ????

Well truth is, nobody can love you better than yourself; and when these negative thoughts happen, it’s important to have compassion for yourself. Just know that you’re not alone in this battle.

You call it fat but we call it thick. As in, good thick that keeps tempting the eye to look! And boy has Maureen Kunga given her fans a reason to admire and at the same time envy her new curves as seen on recent post.

Well, turns out that Maureen Kunga did not continue with her weight loss program after the whole country was put on lockdown. Just like most, she spent her days in the house, probably handling both her job and singing career despite having not released any projects in almost a year.

However thanks to a detailed caption used on one of her photos; Ms Kunga went on to open up about losing herself in all the confusion of shutdowns and pandemics. Through her gram, the lady wrote;

Maureen Kunga

In love with these pictures! Funny story, I feel like I’d lost myself a bit in the first few months of this year. Everything turned on its head, andwith pandemics and shutdowns and all the confusion I lost so much of who I was as a woman, as an artist, as a badass boss, as a friend…I forgot myself!

Back to claim her throne

Although the pandemic hit people differently with most ending up jobless and others homeless; Maureen Kunga remains grateful for the wake up call and lessons she has since learnt.

To commemorate this, Maureen opted for a photo shoot where she went on to show her bossy side; after reminding herself of who she is! She went on to conclude her posts saying;

This photoshoot was the first of many, because it really brought me back into a part of myself that I LOVE and I need to nurture! So, here’s to finding ourselves again, and putting ourselves back together!

Maureen weight loss program

Before the pandemic, Maureen had started working on her weight gain; and judging from photos taken in late 2019 – the weight loss journey had clearly been paying off!

However with the pandemic, Maureen went back to square 1; but truth is, she still looks banging as ever!

Elani’s Maureen Kunga has been using this quarantine time to take care of herself and boy has she changed! Judging from the new photos shared on her Instagram; we believe that Maureen cut about 10 or more kgs as she appears to look smaller than what we were used to.

The lady who is not just a singer but a law degree holder has been keeping a low profile for months now. However the weight loss proves that she has been using her quarantine time wisely; and although Elani has not dropped a new project in a while; Maureen has definitely challenged many with her banging figure.

“I was just killing myself slowly” Elani’s Maureen Kunga opens up about letting go of a pain she held on for years

Elani’s Maureen Kunga this past weekend made a very big step of forgiving one of her friends who had extremely hurt her in the past.

The singer opened up about this through her Instagram page revealing that for years now she held on to a pain that was slowly killing her.

Forgiveness is key to happiness

Although Maureen Kunga doesn’t reveal what happened between her and the friend who wronged her… it’s evident to see that this was a big deal since miss Kunga says she held on to the pain for years — but after letting go of the grudge, she finally feels at peace.

Miss Kunga went on to write;

Maureen Kunga

Happy Smiles and Happy Times and fireworks over my shoulder! This weekend I did a huge thing! I let go of a pain I had been holding in for YEARS and forgave someone (in person) for something that truly hurt me, many years back. I can’t even describe the panic I felt having that conversation and the tears that flowed! But I am very happy to report that it is extremely beautiful and light on the other side of forgiveness. That quote, that harbouring anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die is so real! I was just killing myself slowly and missing out on the possibility of such a great relationship with someone because I couldn’t speak on my pain. In hindsight, I can’t believe I didn’t do this sooner. But now that I have, I am at peace, with a very long-term, deep seated anger and pain relieved from me and I can’t wait to see what this does for me and my life!

In conclusion Maureen urges her fans to be quick to forgive since she understands the disadvantages of holding on to pain.

Lesson for today: If you can, and if they are here, talk about it and forgive. Regret is a difficult thing to get over!

Elani is back with a new jam dubbed ‘Only You’ and it’s totally worth your time (Video)

For sure, we had missed Elani, the trio that treated us to powerful jams like; KookooJana Usiku, Milele. After a long hiatus, they are finally back.

The group that is made up of Bryan Chweya, Maureen Kunga and Wambui Ngugi has released a new song titled Only You and we can’t get enough of it.

This jam talks about a time when people are willing to come together and commit to being with one another. The big step as some people would say.

There are several reasons why I love this jam. The first is because Kenya’s favourite YouTube couple of Ben Cyco and Wanjiru Njiru are starring in it and what better way to celebrate two people who genuinely love each other.

The second reason is that the vocals of the artists in this jam are so sweet. Every time you listen to Wambui, Bryan or Wambui, you can feel what they are singing about deep in your heart and that’s how it’s supposed to be.

The third reason is the video is really great. I really loved the depictions it paints a better picture of what the trio are talking about. If I had to rate this song, I would give it an 11/10. Yup!

Watch Only You below and tell us what you think.

Elani’s Maureen Kunga weds the love of her life in a posh private wedding

Elani’s singer Maureen Kunga is officially off the market after walking down the aisle with the love of her life.

According to Plive, the singer apparently got married on the last weekend of August at a low key wedding that saw close friends attend.

Maureen Kunga’s wedding

The ceremony was held at the shores of Lake Naivasha where the couples friends and family witnessed their union.

Kangu’s Ruracio

The wedding comes a few months after Maureen and her husband held their ruracio completing their traditional union.

Well, going through the lady’s Instagram page, it’s clear that she did not post anything from her wedding; but thanks to a few guests who attended the wedding we have photos from the union.

Indeed Maureen stunned in her white gown and so did her guests. Check out the photos below!

We need Elani back on the music scene!

If there’s something I’ve learnt about the Kenyan music industry it’s that you should never take a long break, unless of course you are Nyashinski.

Kenyans tend to forget very fast and new musicians are emerging each and every day so if you go on a hiatus you will pay for it dearly just like Elani.

The group that is made up of Bryan Chweya, Maureen Kunga and Wambui Ngugi, took a long break in 2016 and things have never been the same for them.

The Hapo Zamani hitmakers tried to make a comeback in 2018 but it soon dawned on them that their fans had moved on to things like Lamba Lolo.

At the time, their songs were not getting traction and they soon disappeared from the music scene yet again.

Truth is Elani has left a big void in the local music industry. We really miss them. I get nostalgia every time I listen to songs like Kookoo, Jana Usiku and Milele.

If it were up to me, I would work tirelessly to ensure that Elani gets back to where they were in 2014 but then again there’s nothing that I can do apart from wishing.

Listen to their latest release dubbed Jinsi below.

Comeback

Maureen Kunga and other Elani members – Brian Chweya and Wambui Ngungi made a major comeback in August 2018 after two years of silence.

The trio dropped a new album to dubbed ‘Colours of Love’. They had gone silent to focus on their individual careers; Wambui Ngungi is holds a BSc in Actuarial Science from University of Nairobi while Maureen Kunga and Brian Chweya are advocates.
