Celebrities Vs KOT: Cyber Bullying being a norm is sending many to depression

Kenya’s KOT -Kenyans on Twitter- was ranked top for being the worst cyber bullies. Top huh, well I wish it was for something good but well here we are. Online entitlement!

Many social media users have made it a norm to just trash someone just because they can. Having little internet has made many become cowards that have taken advantage of their online privileges.

The other day fast rising Kenyan Comedian Mulamwa became a trend on Twitter after he burnt his comedy regalia because of being trolled for over three years.

For one Mulamwa was accused of bullying others too, but truth about that is a story for another day.

Further, Flaqo of the Mama Otis skits also had his share of trolls around that same time of Mulamwa. Good thing is other celebrities came in their defense and the two regained their sanity.

The two are just but an example of what social media freedom has done to people. But this is sending many into depression.

Among others who have had to deal with such trolls are Bahati, Willy Paul, tik tok Queen Azziad Nasenya and worse  the first Covid- 19 survivors. Why are people this mean?

Nadia Mukami become the latest victim of a hard hitting troll that she opted to take a break from social media.

Well, I have never understood the need to bring down another person. Breaks my heart.

Should online entitlement be tamed? Think about it.

On the other hand, the self declared OG Kaligraph Jones and Masauti teamed up for “Hao”a song that highlights the plight of many celebrities and how trolled for their work by fans.

In the song, the two put out how hard celebrities work though in public to make a living by entertaining them  but are trolled instead of appreciated.

Jones went ahead to admonish fans for always trolling celebrities especially the famous KOT  and forgetting that they are just  human and at work.

He told fans off for always having a point to make when its not necessary.

Kenyan musicians have so much to learn from their Tanzanian counterparts

I’m not a fan of Bongo music. I only listen to Tanzanian songs when I have to, for instance when I am doing a review or when they are randomly played at a club, party or in a matatu.

On the flip side, I admire so many Tanzanian artists not for any other reason but because they really work their asses off. I could list them but their names would take up all this space. So, I’ll save you the agony.

Bongo music has always been big deal  not only in Tanzania but across the continent and it’s bout time we – or rather our artists – borrowed a leaf from them.

They should ask themselves questions like,”What can we learn from Tanzanian musicians?”, “What areas should we work on?” and “What are they doing differently?”

One of the Bongo artists that I really admire, just like most of you is Diamond Platnumz. Despite being accomplished and all, he has never been content with his success. He keeps pushing each and every day.

Since the year begun he has released more than 30 songs, perhaps more, including collabos. As a result, he is always at the top of people’s minds.

It always seems like he is a pacesetter for the Tanzanian music industry since most people – including his stablemates – like Rayvanny, Lava Lava, Mbosso and Queen Darleen want to keep up with him.

The local music industry lacks a someone who keeps artists on their toes as is the case with Tanzania and this means that very few musicians, if any, give a hoot about consistency.

The truth is that people get bored very fast. I doubt if any of the people who are reading this article can have a jam in their playlists for more than a week and this means that artists need to release more music. There is no other way.

Many of you will be quick to point out that new age artists such as; Sailors Gang, Boondocks Gang, Ochunglo Family, 34 GVNG, Gwaash, etc. are constantly releasing music but let’s be honest, that is not serious music.

In as much as we find the songs by these youngins catchy, they rarely transcend our borders. It’s what it is. To add to that, the quality is always wanting.

I’m talking about the likes of Nyashinski, Nadia Mukami, Octopizzo, Khaligraph, King Kaka, Redsan, Nameless, Jua Cali, Avril etc. Will they ever wake up from their deep slumber? If so, when? Enough said.

Several female musicians have emerged in the local music industry over the last few years and quite a number are really talented.

We picked three whose music is being played on heavy rotation on local and radio TV stations because we’d like to find out who among them is the best of the best.

The three are Nadia Mukami, Bridget Blue and Trina Mungai.

Nadia Mukami

Most people came to know about her in 2018 and she has garnered so many fans since then. Some of her songs include; Radio Love, Si Rahisi, Lola and African Lover.

Bridget Blue

She made her official debut in the music industry when she featured in King Kaka’s Njia and she has continue to wow us with her melodic voice since then.

Her other songs are; Drug and Different.

Trina Mungai

She has been singing professionally since 2015. Trina had her big break when she was featured in P-Unit’s hit mega hit Me I in 2018.

Her other songs include; Twenty Four, Tonight and Shika.
