10 Kenyan artists whose concerts you must attend when lockdown is finally lifted

With the significant reduction of positive COVID-19 cases over the last two weeks, it seems things will soon go back to normal and the restrictions that had been put in place to curb the spread of the deadly virus will be lifted.

Measures such as banning large public gatherings and ordering the closure of clubs and have denied many Kenyans a chance to socialize and see their favourite artists performing live for a whole 6 months.

As such, I decided to write down a list of Kenyan artist who I feel many people, including yours truly, are eager to see performing on stage. Here are their names in no particular order and to be honest I don’t mind if someone can get all of them to do one show.

1. Mejja – Okwonkwo as he is popularly known has been on a roll since the year began. He has dropped fire collabos and I believe many people are yearning to see him on stage because he’s a showstopper.

2. Sauti Sol – If you watched Sauti Sol’s virtual concert last month then I’m sure you can’t wait to see them on stage soon because nothing beats a Sauti Sol live experience.

3. Nadia Mukami – She is arguably the biggest female artist in Kenya at the moment and to add to that, Nadia has also released many jams during the social distancing period that many people would want to see her performing live.

4. Otile Brown – The mellow-voiced singer whose real name is Jacob Otieno Obunga dropped a fire album during the social distancing period and watching him perform those songs live will be an unforgettable experience.

5. Khaligraph Jones – The OG or Papa Jones has also been working really hard and if you have ever attended his show then you know that he means business when he gets on stage.

6. Ssaru – I know many of you can not wait to see this lass performing because she literally blew up when we were in lockdown. To add to that, she has some dope wordplay and rhymes.

7. Timmy Tdat – I had to include the Dus Nyau hitmaker because his energy when he is on stage is unmatched. If you attend his concert, you go home feeling like you got value for your money.

8. Willy Paul – During the lockdown, Pozze has dropped collabos with Mejja, Nadia Mukami, Bien Aime, Ruby and done many successful single projects. Therefore, you just have to see him performing live.

9. Moji Short Babaa – If you are a promoter and you want an urban gospel artist who will pull huge crowds to your event then look no further than this chap.

10. Mbogi Genje – Many of us have gotten to see Gengetone groups like 34 GVNG, Sailors, Ochunglo Family, Ethic, etc. performing but we are yet to see Mbogi Genje and that would be an awesome experience because they are unique and so taleneted.

Otile Browns reveals why fellow artists are to blame for the corrupt MCSK

Otile Brown has come out to support Willy Paul’s message where be blames the government for letting the MCSKK steal from artists. According to Willy Paul, the government should at least follow up on these officials; who continue benefiting from other people’s efforts.

So far Khaligraph Jones has been on the forefront fighting for what belongs to artists in Kenya; however most seem contented with the little they keep making hence making it hard to show serious this matter is.

Speaking to artists (musicians) in the country, singer Otile Brown has come forth blaming them for their pride and ignorance. According to Otile Brown the industry needs unity to help fight the corrupt officials; but most musicians in the industry prefer sideling themselves when such matters arise.

Time to take back control

Through his instagram page, Otile went on to open up about this issue in a detailed post; where he made it known that artists in the industry are the reason why MCSKK feels untouchable. He wrote;

He went on to encourage artists on the importance of standing together when such matters (theft from MCSKK) arise. He went on to write;

If you’re a Kenyan musician and you want your song to do extremely well, then you have no other option than to look for Major Nameye Khadija, known to you and I as Mejja. The rules are quite simple.

Mejja is proving to be the King of Kenyan collabos with every subsequent release. Interestingly, very little is heard of Kristoff who held that position for a very long time but that is a story for another day, isn’t it?

Since the year began, every song that he has been featured on has topped East African charts, including the latest one with Jovial dubbed Pakate. It was released barely 48 hours ago yet it has already crossed the 160,000 views.

Of course, we have to mention Utawezana, where Mejja was featured by Femi One. It is literally the biggest song this year. We can argue until the cows come home but we both know that I’m right.

Others are Prakata, that Mejja did with Willy Paul, Kalale – which he did with Willis Raburu, Ssaru, Breeder LW and Rekless, Watoto Na Pombe, where he was featured by Otile Brown.

There’s also Wanani Remix where Mejja outshone every other person and Mpenzi Mtazamaji, which he did with his longtime friend Madtraxx and Ochunglo Family.

Clearly, this lad is on a roll because all the aforementioned songs are big hits. All of them. And to think that there was a time when people, including myself, said that he lost relevance after joining The Kansoul.

What drove most of us to this conclusion was that he was no longer the comical story teller that most of us grew up to love. Somehow, lost this special skill that set him apart after teaming up with Madtraxx and Kid Kora.

If you are keen, I am sure you’ve have noticed how has been re inventing himself, trying to get back to the Mejja who treated us to hit like Kuliendaje, Poa, Barua, just to name a few.

That explains why every artist wants Mejja on their song. He has rediscovered himself, if that makes sense, so every jam that he is on just does well. He’s like that one ingredient that if you add to your food, it makes a big difference.

There’s a lot that that artists who are trying to make a comeback on the local music scene can learn from Mejja and that is the power of patience and re-invention. He should probably do a masterclass.

We have not seen the best of Mejja yet. Word is going around that he will soon drop another song dubbed Wamocho with Mbogi Genje and my good friend Richy Haniel. Even before I hear it, I know that it will be a big hit.

Otile Brown was probably one of the most decently dressed secular artists in the country until he decided to go extra on his hair.

The brown-skin lad known for his Swahili romantic ballads must have been hit hard by the pandemic if his recent hairstyle is anything to serve.

Soon after releasing his Ndagukunda jam featuring Prezzo, the Just In Love CEO decided to unveil the new hairstyle in town and trust you me, Kenyans are not giving him an easy time.

He put on locks and clean shaved the sides, basically a Mohawk-look depending on how he sets them.

The first day, things were fine, they were neatly held back so there wasn’t much to say about it.

2nd day, 3rd day, it was a pass until a recent video of him driving on the streets, locks loose and this guy looks crazy. Probably bush-y is the word – just saying.

Then, unlike ladies who know how to deal with both held-back and loose hair, Otile looks like he is struggling to get a good look and his locks in place. Have a look:

Why Otile Brown is hitting back at his trolls with possible lawsuit

Otile Brown has had enough of trolls always looking to splash his name with mud and this time, he has declared he will table none of it!

The light skin lad had trended for a while over couple of entanglements that ended a fail before hinting at a possible reunion with ex, Nabayet.

Unfortunately, he has since gone quiet and his critics are not amused, now dragging his name in all sorts of controversies.

The RnB star has declared war on his trolls always craving for his drama which he termed “Nonsense!”

He called out clout chasers for assuming he is that kind of celebrity who loves it when entangled in drama but unfortunately, he is not. He wants his peace!

Seems Otile is not kidding, warning of a possible lawsuit for those that pricked his skin too hard.

Otile Brown discloses 8 reasons why he only has eyes for Nabbi

Otile Brown is a man deeply in love with his girlfriend, Nabayet popularly known as Nabbi. For months now the singer has made it known he adores his lady and is planning to settle down with her in future.

With his new song dubbed dusuma it appears fans have now turned the song into an anthem; and pretty soon it might just hit the number top spot! Well, his girlfriend Nabbi has also joined in the current dusuma challenge that left her parading her moves on Instagram.

Since the post was shared by Otile Brown, the singer decided to go a little extra revealing 8 qualities that attracted towards Nabbi. On the post, Otile asked fans to put aside the beauty as he went on to praise his lady for other things most fans knew nothing about.

Nabbi responds to Otile’s interview

After coming across Otile Brown’s interview where he confessed to mastubating; Nabbi promised to jet back to Kenya as soon as flights are back to operating. She went on to say;

Yeah I saw that; I saw a lot of messages the next day. It was hilarious, but definitely I’m gonna come. Ones the borders are open, that would be my first destination. I do check on that every day, so there was nothing new and that’s good it should be appreciated. In fact, it should be something that should be looked up to, I think.”

Otile Brown shares new details about life after losing both his parents

Otile Brown did not have it easy when growing up. This is because he lost his parents when he was still a young boy who was not mature enough to survive on his own.

Speaking during his interview with Jalang’o a while back, Jacob Obunga who is well known for his romantic and inspiring love music; went on to open up about his parents for the first time revealing unknown details.

His die hard already know that he was raised by his grandmother; however not many know why. However while on an interview with Jalang’o Mwenyewe; the comedian cum radio host ended up asking about Otile’s parents saying;

“You’ve never talked about your parents anywhere why? You talk about your grandma most of the time?”

Although Otile Brown never got to spend much time with his father; the singer still held on to the few memories they shared before he separated with the Otile’s mum.

Responding to the question, Otile went on to reveal that his father passed on first; then in 2006 when he was in class 5, his mum also passed on. With both of them gone, Otile was then forced to be raised by his grandmother who was often assisted by his step mum.

Although by this time he had mastered the art of surviving thanks to his older siblings; it must have been quite hard for him to understand why the universe had robbed him of his best friend. He went on to open up telling Jalang’o;

“They passed away. My dada hatukuwai hata kukutana coz they broke up with my mum. I’m the last born by the way. So when they broke up with my mum, yeye alienda akabase Kisumu me and my mum remained in Mombasa. He went and passed on lakini sikupata nafasi hata ya kumzika. My mum passed away in 2006 so I just grew up with my uncles and my granny and my stepmom.”

Almost 2 decades later and the RnB superstar continues to make his grandmother proud with his achievements. He is now not only known in Kenya but world wide thanks to his international fans.

His Ethiopian girlfriend must also feel lucky considering the fact that Otile is ready to give his own children and family the life he never got while growing up.

Kenyan RnB sensation, Otile Brown is sure still pretty hurting from his ugly split with Vera Sidika.

For him, she was his dream come true. He believed he had bagged himself a woman he could lawfully settle with and build a home with but none of that ever came to pass.

Instead, it was a love filled with heartbreaks, disappointments every dawn and despite the multiple sacrifices he made, none of it was ever acknowledged or even appreciated.

The Kenyan artist has now hit back at the popular socialite for wasting his time and energy and taking advantage of him only to end up walking away and into the arms of another man.

Vera and Otile´s relationship was declared redundant around August 2018, which each side giving a different story.

Vera was later on rumored to be seeing a new guy before coming clean about her ties to Tanzanian medic, Jimmy Chansa whose love flame went off even soon as it started.

Meanwhile, Otile was busy warming Ethiopian babe, Nabayet´s bed for a couple of months before their relationship got burned down by all sorts of controversies.

Otile Brown is currently giving many artists sleepless nights after he was named as the most viewed Kenyan artist on YouTube.

This comes as a big surprise considering how humble the young singer has always been. One would have thought Khaligraph Jones is the G.O.A.T thanks to his back to backs hits released every other week.

However even with the many songs, Otile Brown has emerged as the most streamed artist thanks to his music. For years now the 26 year old singer has been focusing on clean music; that suits both the old and young.

While you others feel that his music is feminine, the billboard music chart has ranked him on the same league as; Diamond and Rayvanny as they appear to be the only people he is in a competition with.

Otile Brown is now putting Kenyan music on charts and he might just be the only real talent not receiving enough love in the entertainment industry.

Banana or Cassava?

Most of the female fans commenting were only interested in finding out whether Vera Sidika’s story about little Otile was true.

Just like myself they all zoomed in to find out; but Otile Brown’s photographer played us since the picture gets pixelated when zoomed in.

But, from the normal angle we can confirm that Vera Sidika might have exaggerated her story; or was just trashing him on social media due to bitterness. It happens!

However all I know is that apart from that maybe it’s also about time Otile also shared some of skin care. Looking at his flawless long legs, it’s evident to see that the guy enjoys his pedicures and massages hence the soft looking skin.

Being a top artist in the country, Otile definitely has both haters and fans who support his work but this time around most seemed to hate on his tiny red speedos for an unknown reason.

Away from this, the album is set to drop in June and like what most artists are doing, Otile Brown will hopefully be holding a live streamed event on Instagram. Hopefully this will be as successful as Nyashinski’s EP launch that saw thousands join his event on Instagram a few weeks ago.

Today feels like 10, 464, 598^th day of the curfew and subsequent semi-lockdown, thanks to the ravaging Covid-19 virus. I have learnt a few lessons, but the major one?

Well, life is fleeting. Grab every chance that comes along. Do new things. Watch new movies. Listen to new music.

Find a soul mate. Or, make one. Make a hell of a wedding, budgets be damned. A wedding full of dance and colorful dress – chuck the traditional black on white. Make it a party, with an awesome musician.

It’s a world full of erratic, half-baked musicians with jumpy lyrics, Dear Diary. We need better.

We don’t have a budget to hire a celebrity musician – most of which thrill with a mere half of their releases – and suck with the rest. Ok, a band? Hell, no. A band in a wedding has become cliché.

Then, a single genre would bore. Not everyone digs slow gospel. A significant section of the crowd are reggae freaks, but what do we do with the vibrant Bongo fans? The dancers will be found here, remember.

Ok, let’s get a versatile performer, with an adaptability to perform across genres – and with a commanding stage presence.

In the world of covers, Michael Bundi is one of Kenya’s best kept secrets. It’s a hard task describing the immense enigma.

This guy can sing, rap, croon, chant and wail across the most difficult productions in the world of music – and in some cases – do a solo medley while at it! If that’s not incredible, I don’t know what is.

Michael Bundi cannot be tamed into a regular voice category. You want to hear your favorite cover in baritone? Mezo-soprano? Tenor? Countertenor? Contralto? He’s game. (Oh, you didn’t even know there’s a Contralto? Ha!)

A casual perusal into his YouTube channel will enslave you. There’s no exiting. There’s a butt-load of talent buried in cyberspace waiting to be discovered. It’s not hyperbole.

The greatest thing with Michael is his flawless, almost tangible vocals. Videos are simply self-shot, with a smart phone. The only other star in the videos is a little, adorable 2yr-old kiddo, so sweet it makes me choke with emotion!

Days after Otile Brown was rumored to have gotten a “jungu”- girlfriend he drops a new love track dubbed “Vibaya.”

Otile is one of the few artists in Kenya that can boast of musical consistency.Despite being in many scandals that has never faltered his passion of making good music.

In fact he is one of the artists that Kenyans fall in love with on a daily basis.

“Vibaya” is a love song that clearly depicts how much a man can fall in love with the right woman.

He goes all in to shower the girl with praises of love who in this case is played by vixen Maddie Jewitt.

Otile Brown’s lyrical prowess can be likened to the Bongo world. However the difference comes in with how he brings it out.

In the lyrics he adopted the lines from the taarab world that most us used during singing games as kids.

I know you sang that last part too.Well Otile did justice in the lyrics.This new song is a clear indication that Otile will be Kenya’s RnB sensation for the longest time. Furthermore, him doing music and remaining relevant all this years is just a presentation of passion and art.

The visuals in the video give a beautiful ambiance of Kenya’s scenery of the Ngong Hills with all the fog/mist.I am not sure of the difference so pick one.Point is the location is beautiful.

The song was produced by Vickypondis and directed by Deskatores who have clearly done a good job. If for anything am sure Otile has served us all reasons to fall in love over and over again without thinking of the consequences.

Otile Brown recently stepped out with a mzungu lass and fans speculated this is his new babe after dumping Nabayet.

It is quarantine season and Kenyans are spending more time indoors than any other time. RnB singer, Otile Brown however decided to take a trip to the cold and frosty Ngong hills but he was not alone.

6 in the morning, he was confronting the chilly breeze of the Ngong hills.

Kenyan in-laws are not ones to joke around with. Taking to his comment section, the singer’s online family called him out for playing a game he cannot win.

Some mocked him for going Global, comparing his habits to East Africa’s Simba, Diamond Platnumz, others believing her had lost his sanity.

A section tried to ask about Nabbi’s whereabouts, with a couple of fans confirming that Nabbi and Otile are past tense and probably his baby mama.

However, like the common saying among trolls, some attested ‘wataachana tu’ because the mzungu lady looks already too old for him.

Kenyan singer Jacob Obunga, better known as Otile Brown, has released a new jam as as you’d expect, it is getting so much love from his fans.

One would think that the song dubbed Quarantine is meant to raise awareness about the Coronavirus pandemic that we are currently facing but the truth is that it does not.

The Mombasa-based singer just wants to spend some time with ex-girlfriend and as you are all aware it often begins with watching a movie then other ungodly things follow.

Quarantine is such a dope jam. I’ve listened to it couple of times since it was released and I’m still in love with it and that’s exactly how you know a song is a hit i.e. when you can’t seem to get enough of it.

If you are a huge fan of Otile Brown, like myself, then I’m sure you know he is one of best male vocalists that we have in the country at the moment and believe you me, he really put his voice into good use in this joint.

Otile Brown sings from his heart and as you listen to him you can tell that he is so sincere about his emotions. I don’t know about you but I kind of feel like he is reaching out to his Ethiopian ex-bae Nabayet.

The beat was produced by the one and only Vicky Pon Dis and he did a good job. Other than the fact that it is catchy, it also blends well with Otile Brown’s voice and tempo.

Otile Brown opens up about his struggle with depression, says he has been emotionally and physically disturbed

Singer Otile Brown aka Jacob Obunga is among the many celebrities and people who have struggled with depression.

The singer opened up about his struggle just recently while speaking on an interview with Radio Maisha.

Speaking about his experience, Otile Brown opened up saying that depression is real; despite many hiding the fact that they are silently battling with this huge monster.

Depression is real. For the longest time, I have not been okay. I’ve been working, doing shows but emotionally and physically I’ve been troubled.”

Fear of opening up

According to Otile Brown, being a celebrity makes it hard to open up while going through depression. He went on to reveal that there is the fear of being judged that forces most people to maintain their silence despite the struggle. He went on to confess;

The problem with being an artiste is that we cannot open up to people. You can have a lot going on in your life but you cannot talk because there is a way people perceive you. When you talk, one finds peace but as an artiste, you don’t know who to trust because you are not sure who is your friend. Some people may come and listen to you but all they want is to spread information about you,” Otile revealed .

He is however seeking professional help and hopes that this too shall pass. Looking at how Vera Sidika embarrassed him on social media a while back; this might also be another reason why the singer has been struggling with dark thoughts.

I have been seeking help, I’m also trying to relax, to cleanse my body, eat better just trying to get rid of that bad energy and to focus. I have been depressed for a whole year and it had me wilding on social media and I have done some things that have disappointed my fans.”

Kenyan R&B singer Jacob Otieno Obunga, popularly known as Otile Brown and famed for tracks such as; Baby Love, Hi, Crush and Chaguo La Moyo, has released a new jam and it’s getting a lot of love from his fans.

The song titled The Way You Are has been topping local charts since it was released a few days ago and to be honest, we are also feeling it. Like, really!

Basically, this jam is meant to inspire confidence in ladies and to get them to appreciate themselves as they are since God created them in his own image.

Notably, many ladies have self esteem issues because of their skin tones, body shapes, backgrounds and whatnot and Otile says that they should not undergo procedures or bleach so as to be loved and/or accepted.

He goes on to say that someone who doesn’t appreciate you the way you are will not change his or her mind because you bleached your skin or got some implants.

Although some people are saying that this is a direct jab at his ex girlfriend Vera Sidika, I love the fact that Otile took it upon himself to boost ladies’ self esteem and let them know that they are more than perfect.

As expected, the Alivyonipenda hitmaker brought his A-game on this jam. The way he sings, you can tell that what he is saying comes from his heart.

The beat on and instrumentation on this track are very catchy and perhaps it has a lot to do with the fact that it has a hint of Taraab. The producer, Ihaji, did an impeccable job.

I also loved the video. One of the things that I loved was the diversity of the models. There was a lady with vitiligo, an albino, dark as well as light skinned ladies and it really drove the point home.

Singer Otile Brown is unbothered with scooping awards unlike most celebrities who can’t keep calm when it comes to parading them on social media.

Speaking during a recent interview with Wasafi TV, Otile Brown confirmed that so far despite being nominated for several awards, he never bothers to post or hype them on his Instagram.

This is because he was once asked to pay for his accommodation and transport to a certain awards ceremony – then promised to give him the award; and after learning this, he then stopped paying attention to these events.

Otile Brown recently had an opportunity to speak with journalists from Wasafi TV about his new song, love life; and the man he has since become since venturing into music.

Just like most artists Otile Brown did not have it easy before the fame and money. Speaking during his interview with Wasafi TV the Kenyan singer opened up about his hustles leaving many shocked.

Word making rounds is that Otile Brown is still mad at his ex, Vera Sidika who he has apparently fallen in love with to a point where he was ready to settle down with the lady.

During the festive season or rather just a few days ago the singer went on to share a new post on his Instagram page talking about Vera Sidika’s obsession with having a light skinned child.

In the post Otile Brown goes on to claim that Vera Sidika got pregnant with their baby but with time opted to abort it since she was not sure whether Otile Brown’s genes were strong enough to fight the melanin still running in her DNA despite having spent millions to lighten her skin.

Singer Otile Brown unfortunately had a small accident at Yaya Centre knocking down a bodaboda rider and his client.

Judging from the photos and clips making rounds on social media – it appeared that the bodaboda rider and his two passengers were hit from an angle that left them with minor injuries.

Anyway Otile Brown and his team rushed the the three victims to a nearby hospital for medical care. The two passengers who had sustained minor injuries were discharged
immediately after receiving treatment while the rider had to be admitted for further checkup.

To my dear fans, family, friends and supporters, my team and I would like to officially acknowledge the accident I had on Wednesday the 20th of November 2019 around Yaya Centre involving my car with a boda boda carrying 2 passengers. My team and I took the injured persons to the hospital and made sure they received the needed necessary treatment and we catered for the resulting bills.2 people had sustained minor injuries and were released on the same night after treatment while the rider of the boda boda Mr. Yassin Maina Richard had to be admitted to the hospital for further check up.

I have kept constant communication with Mr. Yassin’s family and to enable him resume earning a living for his family I have procured a new motorbike for him.
