Usiongelee Kitu Hukuanzisha- Rekles Shuts Down People Claiming Gengetone Is Dead

Gengetone music was one of the strongest music genre that everyone was jamming to for the past 3 years. The wave was however short-lived and is feared to be losing taste. Gengetone evolved from Genge-rap, a musical style incredibly popular in the 2000s in Kenya.

It blends rap with reggaeton and dancehall infusions resulting in a high-energy and dance-ready sound. The music is also characterized by its explicit lyrics and commentary that reflect the current lifestyle of the ‘hood’ experience, usually rapped or sung in “sheng’ .

One of the pioneers of this genre was popular Gengetone group ‘Ethic’, who took the kenyan music industry by storm. The group, consisting of Rekles, Seska, Swat and Zilla, is still one of the best in the genre.

Back With A Bang

After several criticisms about their music genre, Rekles has now come in defence of Gengetone music. In an interview on SPM Buzz, Rekles claims no one should say Gengetone is dead, unless they started it.

”Unajua sisi ndio tulianzisha hii kitu so si ndio tunaamua itaisha lini. Hakuna venye unaeza sema kitu hukuanzisha inaisha. How? So tunaeza nyamaza miaka mbili, 3 years ama 4 years bado tutakuja tusumbue. So kila mtu anasema kitu anataka…”

Despite their silence, Ethic is still a promising quartet. I’m sure they’ll drop a banger soon enough.

“I am not clout chasing” Willy Paul cries after management cancels project with Rekles

Singer Willy Paul is either having trouble with his management; or the fella is hyping an upcoming project that will feature bad man, Rekless. Well, this is how fans feel about the whole ‘misunderstanding issue with his management;’ as most question why he can’t up and leave.

However according to Willy Paul, he has a contract that ties him with the management; and since he cannot release any project without their consent, all he can do is make noise through his posts.

So far we have seen him call out the ‘management’ for claiming gengetone artists have zero content in terms of lyrics; adding that this is the reason why his song featuring Rekless was not among the songs on his Songs of Solomon album.

Willy Paul

#SONGSOFSOLOMONALBUM has only 9 songs… truth is… songs zinafaa kuwa 10 but unfortunately my management said no to the 10th song.. they said there’s no way watakubali niimbe na wasani wa gengetone. That’ hao wasee hawana sense kwa songs zao!! Surely how can one say that kwa mtu mwenye anatry kuweka food kwa meza?

I’m not faking

Seeing that most people feel that he is creating hype for an upcoming project; Pozee quickly shared yet another post explaining himself. According to baba King Damien, he has no reason to clout chase; but his only mission is to ensure the young Gengetone boys are given the respect they deserve.

In the detailed post Pozee wrote;

Morning, so I posted this piece here yesterday and kuna wale walisema ni kiki!!! All good though. Endelea kupiga mdomo hapo, one day your relative or even ur child will face the same. Hapo ndio utajua haujui nkt!! We must stop this. We must come together, we must unite there’s no way out. Don’t look down on someone just because you think ur better than them! Charity begins at home..and I’m setting that example now.. wasanii mnasikia?
#SONGSOFSOLOMONALBUM had a bonus track na gengetone artists. My management removed the song from the album without my knowledge manze. Wakasema I have a contract with them, a contract that must be followed! Ati they only want the best for me.

To his manager, Pozee went on to rant saying;

@jeffaflexx_ I’ve known you for years now manze.. done everything na rules vile inafaa sasa mbona hii inakua issue? Kumbuka hawa wasani wa gengetone ndio wamefanya mziki ya Kenya ikaanza tena kupata airplay. Kweli maybe some hawana direction, but I believe wakionyeshwa njia inaeza work poa.. but threatening me ati you’ll sue me if I add the song to #SONGSOFSOLOMONALBUM sio fair walai buda…I’m adding the song, yaani you guys do ur worse. MANDELA alianza hivi tu…Thank you to everybody that’s got my back. Thank you.

Management responds to claims Ethic crew has split following Rekless’ alleged exit

Word on the street is that Kenya’s popular Gengetone music group, Ethic entertainment is no longer together, claims the group’s management has come out to address.

Saturday, September 26, gengetone fans woke up to news of Rekles alleged exit from Ethic entertainment, rumors that seemed true after the kid recently featured in multiple hit songs solo, without fellow crew members.

Word had it that things were not working out well for the Lamba Lolo hitmakers. Most especially after Rekles started doing solo projects and staging collabos with other legendary artistes in the country. Something that has been considered breach of contract.

Ethic entertainment

Clearly, a music group or band is on its way to death if one member makes an exit because every person in the group has a major role to play and an exit would only deny the group its full capacity.

Management responds

Ethic entertainment’s management responded to the claims as reported by a local publication after a curious fan sought clarification on the same posing “Is this true?”

To which the management responded via their Instagram page stating;

Naaah, Rumors tu.

Ethic Management responds to Rekles’ alleged exit

This comes barely weeks after Rekles dropped club bangers with other artistes including Willis Raburu’s Bazu and Bahati’s Wanani remix. He also dropped solo tune Deep Down by House of Badass production, raising speculations that this could be his new home.

Feedback

Sentiments that have attracted love and hate in equal measure with fans asking the kid to leave if he cannot stick to Ethic entertainment’s contract because after all, the group does not necessarily need him.

The song titled Lawama has been ruling the airwaves since Rekles released it a few hours ago and to be honest, we’re also feeling it.

Rekless

This song is really infectious. I’ve listened to it a couple of time since it was released and every time I play it, it’s like I am hearing it for the very first time. Yup, it’s that good ladies and gentlemen.

Rekless has a good flow and to add to that, it seems so natural. He is one guy that will make you scratch your head as you try to make sense of what he is saying in the song.

To add to that, he has a unique ability to play around with words and make dope and unpredictable rhymes, the kind that makes you wish that Gengetone should last forever.

Rekless

Actually, I’m amazed at his creativity. It’s no surprise that people always look forward to hearing his verse every time Ethic release a new song.

The beat on this song is sick. Other than the fact that it slaps really hard, it also blends well with the vocals of Rekles and his tempo. Put simply, it’s really on point.

Listen to Lawama below and tell us what you think. Enjoy!
