The track dubbed Bey T is all about this lass who looks, walks and talks like the female rapper. Apparently, that is the reason why Tunji can’t get enough of her.

He says he met the lady when he was roaming around Rongai and immediately he was swept off his feet. It seems the two of them clicked and now he does not want to let go of her.

To be honest, I have mixed feelings about this song. Part of me feels it’s not the kind of songs that Tunji – who made a name for himself as a rapper – should be doing while I also have a feeling that it will grow in me with time.

In as much as I appreciate the fact that he went out of his way to try a new style, I am of the opinion that this mellow vibe can’t work for him.

That said, I must say that Bey T is a beautiful composition. I really loved the rhymes and wordplay in it. If you are an lovey dovey person then I’m pretty sure that you will be hooked instantly.

The beat and instrumentation was also good. They blend really well with Tunji’s voice and make you want to listen to the song over and over.

Although I really loved the video, I didn’t know what I should make of it because it looks like it was plucked from the internet since Tunji does not appear anywhere in it. Anyway, what do I even know?

Listen to Bey T below and tell us what you think.

The track titled Clarification is about a chap who has his eyes set on a certain beautiful lass but he is not really sure if she feels the same way about him. As such, he feels there is need to clarify things.

To be honest, I have mixed feelings about this song. Part of me feels it’s not the kind of songs that Tunji – who made a name for himself as a rapper – should be doing while I also have a feeling that it will grow in me with time.

That said, I must say that Clarification is a beautiful composition. I really loved the rhymes and wordplay in it. If you are an emotional or lovey dovey person then I am pretty sure that you will be hooked instantly.

The beat and instrumentation was also good. They blend really well with Tunji’s voice and make you want to listen to the song over and over.

Although I really loved the video, I didn’t know what I should make of it because it looks like it was plucked from the internet since Tunji does not appear anywhere in it and the many white ladies. Anyway, what do I even know?

The song titled Hide Away talks about that special lady that you’re willing to move mountains for but they’re always avoiding you. I know all guys can relate to this. Okay, maybe not all.

Just like his previous releases, Tunji really came through on this jam. I totally loved his witty rhymes, as you listen to the song you’ll realize that he put a lot of thought into his verse.

Iphoolish

It goes like, “Me nadai kuknow ni mimi tu unaye lenga, babu sina mengi me nadai tucheze benga, all I got is love ndo nadai kukujenga, overpower me kinameless I surrender, si you know, me hukeep it simple design ya bugu bugu I just wanna the dimple, nadai you know, nawekunda kukumanya, lemme close gap baby njoo tuzibe mwanya, you the soft drink to my liquor, hutoki kwenye fikra ata zangu zikue zimeshika, kwako nimedata moyoni ushafika.”

Iphoolish also had a dope verse. Although it’s the first time I am listening to a song by her, I was not disappointed at all. Actually, I looked for other songs by him immediately after listening to this jam. He’s really good.

Dubbed Disguise, the song is about how people pretend to be what they are not to impress the people they are interested in.

Eventually, the people who are being lied to learn the truth and you can no longer hide i.e disguise yourself.

Unlike his previous releases, Tunji – who became a household name after releasing Mat Za Ronga – is spitting in English in this jam.

But that does not mean that his bars are not on point. Actually, it’s nice seeing this side of him.

However, others seem to disagree with this move. In their opinion, Tunji should stick to Swahili and Sheng’ since it’s more relatable.

Apart from his witty rhymes, the other thing that struck me is the beat of this jam. It really gives you the feeling that you are listening to trap.

The video concept is pretty simple but I feel it works for this kind of song, but maybe that’s just me.

The song was produced by Audiovibe and directed by Elvis Kent, in my opinion they both did a commendable job.

Tunji is all the way up

25-year-old rapper Ronald Mwawaka, alias Tunji, is taking Kenya’s hip hop scene by storm with his high energy bars and eclectic flow.

He didn’t take too long to learn the ropes. Tunji has moved from an upcoming rapper to a house household name in less than three years. That’s no mean feat!

Interestingly, the Rongai bred rapper wasn’t really keen on becoming a musician. Tunji began deejaying when he joined Multimedia University (MMU). However, he ditched the trade for music when he realized it wasn’t paying off.

Tunji

In 2015, he released a mixtape dubbed Now They Know which was meant to introduce him to hip hop fans. He released a couple of singles after that, including Mat Za Ronga, a song that skyrocketed him to stardom.

The song was so good that Khaligraph Jones reached out to him asking to be featured in the remix. Mat Za Ronga remix was one of the biggest songs in 2017. Tunji’s career also blew up.

Since then, he has released a couple of songs which have been received well by music fans. They include; Harambee, Dash, Excuse Me Dada and Mtu Wathii.

In all these songs, Tunji proved that he is worth his salt. A few weeks ago, he released yet another song dubbed Pour Me One and as expected, the song is getting massive airplay on local radio stations.

Clearly, there’s no stopping for this young man who has been giving established rappers a run for their money. Can he keep up? Only time will tell.
