Tunji is all the way up

25-year-old rapper Ronald Mwawaka, alias Tunji, is taking Kenya’s hip hop scene by storm with his high energy bars and eclectic flow.

He didn’t take too long to learn the ropes. Tunji has moved from an upcoming rapper to a house household name in less than three years. That’s no mean feat!

Interestingly, the Rongai bred rapper wasn’t really keen on becoming a musician. Tunji began deejaying when he joined Multimedia University (MMU). However, he ditched the trade for music when he realized it wasn’t paying off.

In 2015, he released a mixtape dubbed Now They Know which was meant to introduce him to hip hop fans. He released a couple of singles after that, including Mat Za Ronga, a song that skyrocketed him to stardom.

The song was so good that Khaligraph Jones reached out to him asking to be featured in the remix. Mat Za Ronga remix was one of the biggest songs in 2017. Tunji’s career also blew up.

Since then, he has released a couple of songs which have been received well by music fans. They include; Harambee, Dash, Excuse Me Dada and Mtu Wathii.

In all these songs, Tunji proved that he is worth his salt. A few weeks ago, he released yet another song dubbed Pour Me One and as expected, the song is getting massive airplay on local radio stations.

Clearly, there’s no stopping for this young man who has been giving established rappers a run for their money. Can he keep up? Only time will tell.
