#SonkoStepsDownForPK was the top trending topic on twitter for the better part of Wednesday April 19th – Kenyans were amazed by the amount Sonko was allegedly paid.
Word had it that President Uhuru Kenyatta offered Mike Sonko Kes 1 billion to quit his bid for Nairobi gubernatorial seat and support his main rival Peter Kenneth.
Twitter erupted the moment this claim reached public domain; #SonkoStepsDownForPK immediately became the top trending topic.
Kenyans couldn’t imagine the flamboyant senator backing down at such a late stage when Jubilee nominations were only a few days ahead.
The grapevine on twitter forced Sonko to react and set the record straight, he assured his supporters he wasn’t stepping down for anyone
“Propaganda machinery at work. I’m not stepping down for anyone. Let the Great people of Nairobi decide,”Sonko wrote on social media.
