VDJ Jones Speaks On The Tremendous Decline Of Gengetone Music Wave (Video)

Remember the time when the only music genre everyone was jamming to was Gengetone music? The time when we almost forgot about all the other genres and shifted our attention to gengetone groups that were taking the industry by storm?

Well, no one knew that all the excitement would be short-lived. Recent discussions have involved the relevance of the genre’s survival; and whether it will pick or not. Some groups saw their members detached; such as Ochungulo Family and Sailors.

The genre has also been criticized by artists such as Willy Paul; who seem to marvel at the downfall of it.

 ”I just killed gengetone with my deadly skills!! No one could have done it better! Alafu please kama wewe ni singer na unajaribu kurap, please rap wacha umama.. this album is going to discipline alot people trust me…”

VDJ Jones Speaks

One of gengetone’s biggest supporters, VDJ Jones has also noted the downfall of the genre. And according to him, most gengetone groups started competing with each other and lost focus; leading to the massive drop in the genre’s performance. He disclosed this on Mungai Eve’s YouTube;

”Wasanii wengi wa gengetone fame ilikuja. Kuna wale wali react differently. Watu wakaanza kushindana… Hiyo ndio kitu iliua mziki yetu. Because watu walianza ku compete wenyewe kwa wenyewe…”

Despite the claims; one of the pioneer groups of the music genre, Ethic, strongly rebuke claims that their music is ‘dead’. They maintain that they’re just on a break and will be back with more bangers.
