Warning shots fired: Mike Sonko spells doom for City Hall tenderpreneurs ahead of his inauguration

Mike Sonko has made it clear that it won’t be business as usual at City Hall from the very day that he assumes office. The Nairobi governor-elect has already started talking action.

Mike Sonko turned down Kes 25 million set aside for his inauguration ceremony. Sonko instead ordered that the money should be directed to payment of county staff within 48 hours to avert planned strike by the workers over the nonpayment.

The Nairobi governor-elect has also cautioned City Hall tenderpreneurs. In a public notice, Sonko said once he is sworn in he will put in place elaborate process that will ensure genuine contractors and suppliers.

Sonko said this after it emerged that individuals purporting to be working for City Hall were soliciting bribes from contractors and suppliers to influence speedy processing of pending payments.

The flamboyant politician further warned City Hall cartels to keep off before the long arm of the government gets hold of them.
