Earlier in June, the Federal Government of Nigeria directed the National Broadcasting Commission to sanction any media outlet that propagates hates speech and unverifiable claims.

NBC spokesperson, Maimuna Jimada  said these stations were sanctioned for having hateful speech, vulgar lyrics and unverifiable claims in their broadcast.  She further urged the stations to comply so as not to get a higher sanction.

The sanctioned stations are to make payment into the NBC account.  The fine ranges from fifty thousand Naira to five hundred thousand Naira.
