Nollywood is an industry where rivalry and fakeness is fast becoming a legacy”- AY

Nollywood is an industry where rivalry and fakeness is fast becoming a legacy”- AY

In a response to actor Kelvin Ikeduba’s outpour on the bad situation of the Nollywood industry, comedian AY has added more insight. According to him, the industry is filled with rivalry and fakeness. Read the post below:

“As a growing actor and a movie producer, NOLLYWOOD has exposed me to both the good, the bad and ugly.Barely few years in the industry, i have experienced all sorts from the stables of the high and mighty self entitled ‘stakeholders’, to the very insecured individuals whose only claim to fame is an old testament fact of “We started this industry”.

The above post by Kevin Ikeduba, has given me the courage to further introduce you to our Nollywood. So welcome to an industry where rivalry and fakeness is fast becoming a legacy designed for posterity. Welcome to a backstabbing community where some pretend to love you in the open and condenm all your determination and efforts to succeed when you are not there.

Welcome to an industry where enmity reigns supreme… Eg “If you are using her in the movie, then I can’t be on it”, or “i can’t be in your film and not play the lead role”. Welcome to an industry where some actors have more visible roles on Instagram and Red Carpets. Welcome to an industry where some would maintain a position that would make you keep to yourself rather than ask for a selfie.

Welcome to an industry where some cannot use their platforms to help another colleague to promote his or her work (including the ones they are contracted for). Welcome to an industry where most families mainly depend on public support when one of our own falls sick. Welcome to an industry where some engages themselves daily on WhatsApp groups chatting about how others have no business making movies (even when they break their own records back to back).

Moving the industry forward goes beyond seeking for the downfall of others, or basking in the euphoria of an old glory that has been taken over by trend and time. Above all, I still see Nollywood as a special place; a place filled with creative geniuses. Working together and supporting ourselves can only make greater arts happen to the diverse audiences we all set out to entertain.

But at the end of each plastic characters that comes with movie productions, let’s find a way to share our real side. It’ll either scare away every fake person in our life or it will inspire them to finally let go of that mirage called “perfection”.

AY and his Brother, Lanre Makun Allegedly Almost came to Blows at AY Live

Ay and Lanre Makun were mad at each other for reasons.

According to an industry source, the Makun brothers, AY and Lanre Makun, almost came to blows at the backstage of the AY Live Show.

The source, as reported by Gistreel.com claims that close friends of the Makun brothers have refused to comment on the issue because of its sensitivity.

According the report, the comedian got mad at his brother because he found out that he was selling and giving out tickets without his (AY’s) consent. This, they said, almost disrupted the show as adjustments had to be made.

The report below;

They got into this very heated argument and were close to exchanging blows back stage because AY found out a few days before the event that Lanre had been selling or maybe even giving out tickets to people without his consent’ a source said.

He was very pissed that he had to re-arrange the table settings at the last minute just to distort Lanre’s plans and this didn’t quite go down well’.

He had earlier tweeted about going to Lanre for tickets, thus;

At the time of this report, non of the parties involved have responded to this claim.

AY and Lancelot Imasuen supports Rita Dominic as she said all movies are not meant for the cinemas

Rita Dominic, AY and Lancelot on the right movies for cinemas

The trend in Nollywood now is taking all movies to the cinemas, whether cinema worthy or not. But despite might be because there is no understanding on the qualities of a cinema movie or, the economic of Nollywood movies in the hand of piracy and low patronage of CD.  Rita Dominic, AY and Lancelot Imasuen have all spoken about the cinema trend.

Rita Dominic who was the first to speak out in a post said: “Nobody sets out to make a bad film, but so many of those compromises are made and often they’re made because of vanity, pride and ego.” Following the post was her comment which read: “Let the quality of work match the hype!! #nollywood #noteverymovieshouldbeincinemas”.

She was met with different response with people, who mostly agreed with her.

CINEMA MOVIE DISCUSSION

In response to this, AY and Lancelot also stated their own opinion. AY said to LIB that:

“Rita Dominic actually made her point. I had a chat with her on other issues barely 24 hours before her post. I guess it was just a general statement to better the industry. I am only a baby producer in the industry with 3 movies that made it to the cinemas with good box office records/Guinness world records. Judging from where we are coming from, I’m impressed with the growth of Nollywood. The Cinema owners have their criteria and standards for screening any movie they show to the public. All i do is stay in my lane and do what i am supposed to do. Anyone have the right to say Timi Dakolo is a better singer than Davido, but they are both appreciated seperately in the showbiz world based on their different markets. So the seriousness and technicalities you expect from the movie 76 by Izu Ojukwu, should be different from an Ay’ 30 Days in Atlanta that is designed to make you laugh”.

Lancelot Imasuen the filmmaker also had this to say: ”In our closet we also talk about it that the cinemas should also be mindful of what they take from Nollywood because we are having a problem. Everybody is talking about Black Panther. Even Atiku is went to watch Black Panther but I have asked people when they come out of the cinemas, if they understand the foreign film they went to watch? Many people are just following trend. A lot of people do not understand the movie, they just went to watch because their friend went to watch.

 He continued by saying:

It is not all kinds of films that should really make the cinemas. There are films that are deliberately made for home viewing, internet viewing, private view. Cinema films should have a lot of high pitch, entertainment. I am strongly with Rita Dominic that it is not all fims that should be taken to the cinemas. The cinema operators should also have an internal mechanism to identify the movies that should be taken to the cinemas. The question will now be what are the yardstick for measuring films that should cinematically viewed? We should leave the audience to determine the fims that should be cinematically viewed 99.9% of movies that get to the cinemas fail because they cannot make back their returns. They use hype, Instagram and social media razzmattazz to cover it up. Did you the advert of Black Panther on Nigerian tv? The actors are not doing meet and greet in the cinemas. Howcome, for three weeks now, the cinemas are being flooded? Who advertised the film. Several of Nollywood movies are failing because they cannot meet the small budgets that was used to make them. No Nigerian film has ever made movie in the cinemas. Most of the movies end up in the red carpet. People just go to the premiere to take selfies and that is the end. What Rita said is not out of place. She did not put it well. There is no yardstick for measuring movies that should make the cinema”

Ayo Makun (AY) Gives Reasons Why he Spent Nine Years in the University

Ayo Makun’s life hasn’t always been rosy.

Nigerian comedian cum actor, Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, has revealed that he spent nine years in Delta State University.

According to the comic act, when his father passed on, his mother didn’t waste any time to join him. This made him assume the position of a father to his siblings as the first child. He had to tend to his four sisters and two baby brothers.

These responsibilities, made him stall in his education, he said.

His words;

Embracing the responsibilities of taking care of my four sisters and two baby brothers wasn’t the best message to preach to a waiting landlord whose rent must be paid in due time.

The combination of being a big brother and father came with a price that kept me in Delta State University for 9 years as a student.”

So many people have obviously gone through much more than one can imagine from the surface. Good thing he and his siblings are finishing strong. Bravo AY!

Alex Ekubo Rains Insults on Yomi Casual and IK Ogbonna

So much insults from one man.

It is uncertain what triggered the rain of insults but it might be connected to the picture of Alex Ekubo and his friends that the actor shared. In the picture, Alex looked like he was trying to make a point but Yomi Casual’s look was that of someone who wasn’t buying whatever Alex was trying to push. He carried his face in an uncertain way like, what is this one even saying?

Alex Ekubo

Just take a moment & look at this Burnt offering called Yomi that is doing his face like lizard that licked lime, sometimes i wonder how i even pick my friends, how can 1 person possess blackness allocated to 6 people.

Ik Ogbonna, you’re next in Line, you bald headed Orangutan Reptile looking Iguana Alien vs Predator headed millipede.
