Betty Irabor Lashes at those who make People Feel ad with their Words

Founder of Genevieve Magazine, Betty Irabor has taken a swipe at people whom she says makes others feel bad about themselves with their words.

Narrating an encounter she recently had with an old friend, the media mogul advised that people should rather not say a ting if they lack nice things to say.

According to her, the person’s words would have sent her old self back into depression. She however noted that such things no longer mean a thing to her.

Betty Irabor’s story below;

Betty, what happened to you?? I attended a Service of Songs this January and saw a lady friend.. well, not a friend like that but sha a friend. I hadn’t seen her for years. As I smiled towards her amidst selfies and pecks with other friends, she gasped loud; “Ah! Betty, what happened to you?” For a minute I thought I had a wardrobe malfunction or something worse, like poo all over me!! “What happened to you?” She exclaimed again. Now, there were abt 20 of us right there paying our condolences to our bereaved friend after the service.
As I wondered what she meant, like how, where, what or when? She exclaimed “Ah, you have gone much darker, are u ok? U used to be lighter!” She looked really pained!
I have? Was the only Come Back I could find at that moment, although I had some pretty petty acidic stuff I could have hauled back at her right there! But I don’t do dirt. I am still learning. Instead, I smiled and just walked away thanking God for how far I have come from the days of depression when such nastiness could have sent me back into my insecurity. Those indiscretions are wasted on me now. I don’t hear them. I don’t react to them.
We all need to stop this nastiness of trying to put others down because of our own misery and self hate! Weight, looks, colour are not forms of greetings, unless they are beautiful words. If you’re unhappy with yourself don’t lash out at people who are not responsible for your woes. Go fix your small mindedness! Ask for help if possible. It’s against social etiquette to ask people if they have gained weight in full glare of others. Imagine my shock when someone said to a teenager at a show “you’ve obviously been eating too many burgers and fries, u need to eat more veggies! I was happy when the teen retorted “Aunty, mind your F* business”. It entered well well!
So, if you have nothing good to say, pls count up to 10 first. Envy is hazardous to all our health.

Below is Betty Irabor’s inspiration message to Harrysong to see him through his tough time.

“Dear @iamharrysong (And To others whom it may concern) I don’t know you but I know of you. I became curious about you after a post suggesting that you may be going through depression! Since my own bout, I have learnt that many are very ignorant about this mental health issue and show very little empathy for the sufferer.

I am happy you have taken that bold step to open up and seek therapy . Even with therapy, there will be many off days but you must commit to getting better (appreciating how far you have come, celebrating little and major successes and milestones, avoiding negative vibes, find a safe place, don’t overanalyze your current situation; it’s temporary, embrace Talk therapy and not depend solely on antidepressants, pray as if your life depends on it.. it actually does!

“Never forget that thoughts become things; own your positive thoughts, change your negative mindset, choose your perspectives carefully.) The journey to recovery may be frustrating and there could be a relapse but you’re gonna be just fine because the hand of trauma may be long, the good news is that it can be BROKEN. Give your self time to mend and don’t rush the process! Blessings! #dusttodew #depression #mentalhealth #empathy #nonegativevibes.” she concluded.

Betty Irabor is the author of the book ‘Dust to Dew’ which centers on her journey through depression. Until the release of the book, not too many knew that the publisher and socialite had gone through what is seen in this part of the world as a ‘foreign ailment.’

“Each of us as to work the path our creator has carved out” Betty Irabor advises people not to compare themselves with other people

Betty Irabor on success inspiration

Popular TV host and publisher, Betty Irabor shared a powerful message. Read below:

Listen ehn! We all came into this world at different times and with different destinies and for different purposes. Once you understand that then you find inner peace. While it is easy to look at your friends, competitors and colleagues and wonder why they seem to be ahead of you and living the life you crave so badly, remember that our journeys in life are different. Each of us has to walk the path our creator has carved out for us. Never forget that we are all unique! We cannot Rush God and at the same time We cannot Limit His ability to take us places beyond our capabilities. Do not measure your success by the success of others because God’s plan for you could even be Bigger. Focus on your goals, don’t allow yourself to be distracted by what is going on in the lives of others you perceive as “having it all”. Focus on your growth. Sharpen your Saw; a blunt Saw can’t cut a tree. The more you focus on what others are up to instead of focusing on how you can be a better person than you were yesterday, the more you lose focus of what really counts. Don’t let negativity dominate your senses. Take time to celebrate even your bitesize achievements!! Your best is yet to come. Live each day in Abundance and with a grateful heart.

Betty Irabor wrote:

“In 2005, just before the first Pink Ball when I was still afraid of public speaking, I vowed “if God makes it possible for me to Spk to the over 800 guests without passing out, I will become a church lector”. God fulfilled my wish as He sent me an angel to Spk thru me.. I was unbelievably calm as I spoke but I reneged on my promise. I did not become a lector! Who does that without consequences? This yr, I sat in church as the 2017 harvest/ bazaar committee was inaugurated and on impulse I later offered to serve in the committee and the Market Place Sale was born to raise funds. A few Sunday’s ago I climbed the altar to make an announcement and invite parishioners to the market place event. Years back I would have died of fright climbing the altar but I was both calm and excited.. as I left the altar it occurred to me that it was time to redeem that pledge to train to be a lector. Selling the Market Place and trying to hand out fliers has been humbling as no one really cares abt your fliers , no one has the time to look up and see who is distributing them darn fliers as they race past u right after church. You want to know what snobbery is? Try distributing fliers! Ask @monalisacode @yvonnejegedefawole&@theonlychigurl whom I hired to help me distribute fliers. Funny thing is, I was once like that! But after my experience I will be kinder to pple handing out fliers. Initially it seemed strange and embarrassing shouting “come and book your stalls o” but now I can even do it at Tejuosho market! No shame! ?The Market Place Sale is here this Sunday and I am so very excited to have made myself useful.. It feels so good to serve in the harvest committee. For the first time I see the effort/ sacrifices others make quietly. I feel so inspiredto do more than go to church.. & I am looking forward to serving as a lector.. meanwhile, my invitation to you to come shop or take a stall is still open.. and pls pls pls , next time someone offers you a flier for their business or event accept it, smile. Don’t snub them. It takes courage to stand there and be distributing fliers.. who knows, you may find yourself in my shoes handing out fliers and shouting “Market Place Sale”?”
