that was the way our forefathers used to dress before the arrival of the West. As a matter of fact, some months ago, a picture circulated on the Internet of a wealthy Igbo farmer who dressed that way in 1930. I just wanted to remind people of our past . It surprises me that people are shocked whenever I dress that way. That was the same way I dressed in the video for my song’.

 ‘In this part of the world, we are mostly consumers ; not creators. If the advanced world should come here and take all of their technologies, we would be left naked. However, I appreciate the people who follow my music and see it as a form of artistic expression. Those are the people I do this for. For those who don’t like it; sorry, I don’t know what to do about that’

Brymo talks about collaboration with Asa

In an interview with BBC Yoruba, singer Brymo discussed reason he didn’t feature anybody in his new album. He mentioned of wanting to collaborate with Asa because they share ideas. He said:

“I have spoken to Asa’s handlers. What remains is to set it up.She is the one person who I can collaborate. What she talks about — love, social issues, everyday issues — are things that matter to me. I had important things to talk about. It is hard to bring someone who doesn’t know my thought process to collaborate on such a song.Many of my colleagues collaborate because of positioning. There is so much politics involved in collaboration so I chose to sing alone. I have collaborated in the past but I was not satisfied with the outcome.”

When asked about why he decide to go  nude for his latest video, the singer replied:

“The video is for people to see that were backward and need to change. I was not happy that people said I did something wrong. It means people have forgotten where we came from. I am a bush man, still living in a world made possible by the West. I, like other Africans, are just existing and not responsible for technological advancements and innovations.We have not contributed to the world. We don’t solve problems or create solutions.” On recording thought-provoking songs, Brymo said he believes that “if everyone thinks In Nigeria, the country will be better”.

Brymo Boasts About his Songwriting Prowess, Says he’s Nigeria’s Best

Brymo blows his trumpet on this one.

Singer, Brymo, in a recent interview with Pulse says he is the best songwriter in the country. When it comes to making money from music, he is among the top three in Nigeria, he said.

According to the singer here has been a lot of great people in the industry like Fela but there is none for now as good as him.

Excerpts below;

Can you honestly declare your assets? can you honestly declare to us how much you’ve sold? how much you’ve earned in royalties off your music? I think i’m doing better than everybody in that regard as well, in the last 5 years. So maybe you got money from your money laundering friends or your Godfather, I don’t know, but if you are making money from music, i think i am easily top 3 musicians in Nigeria,”

“The bulk of the things I say online is to pretty much draw people’s attention to what is important. A time will come in the nearest future where there will be a Nigerian artiste who plays the guitar as good as Carlos Santana, who writes as well as Brymo, who sings as well as Asa. Who does everything well. Who will probably be better than all of us. That day will come.

But for now, I feel very little attention is being paid to content. So every opportunity I get to make people say “What is That?” I use it. And currently, as it stands, there’s not been one Nigerian in history with my songwriting prowess or vocal dexterity or even stage presence.

There has been a lot of great people, especially when you mention the greats like Fela, without any doubt, who happens to be my number one mentor. But as today stands, the present generation did not listen to Fela so you cannot sell that to them, they will tell you “Yeah! Fela was great, Fela was great,” but what are they listening to now? Somebody needs to get their attention and tell them: ‘look over here, this will help your life more. This will help you find calm and help you find peace. And if that’s not what is ‘greatest’, then what is?”

Brymo was recently dragged to court by his former record label for not honoring their contract.
