“Don’t waste your achievement on an ego trip” movie producer Don Pedro-Obaseki to Rita Dominic

Don pedro-Obaseki wrote an open letter to Rita Dominic concerning her recent cinema movies statement

As some supports Rita Dominic and her #noteverymoviesshouldbeincinemas# discuss, some don’t think it’s the right thing to say. One of these people is Don Pedro-Obaseki a movie producer, who thinks Rita is on an ego trip. Read his open letter to the actress:

“AN APPEAL TO #RITA_DOMINIC – From Don Pedro Obaseki.

My dear star, sister & colleague’, Rita Nwaturocha (aka Rita Dominic & once upon a time, Rita Lamb), I’ve had the inglorious privilege of reading about your “Table Shakings” and the reactions they’ve elicited.

Ma, humility is a virtue, and caution ain’t cowardice! I remember a few times around 2003-2006, when you used to “sweat” at Chico’s in Bank Olemoh, roaming from one set to the other, while recording TWO or THREE movies at the same Time!

Don’t be like Chichidodo, the proverbial Ghanaian bird in Ayi kwe Armah’s novel. Chichidodo was the bird that hated shit, but feeds only on the maggots from Shit.

Please dearie. Leave that Table alone. It is fragile and you are right atop it dressed in your Sunday Best! But the table floats on the Lagoon of filth and jaded black trash. You may slip headlong into the murky lagoon, and because you’ve maligned all that may be willing to lend you a helping hand, you may be left to drown with no one to help pull you ashore.

Life is a trickster. Let it not prank you. Learn that there’s nobility in humility. No be beans, my dear. As a free-spirited “young man”, I offer this ” small advice”, albeit with NO PREJUDICES. Your journey from Choba & Delta Park in Uniport to where you are now is worthy of commendation. Don’t waste it on an ego-trip.

Please remain assured of my most esteemed regards.

We still love you.

-Don Pedro Obaseki, MBA, PhD.”

AY and Lancelot Imasuen supports Rita Dominic as she said all movies are not meant for the cinemas

Rita Dominic, AY and Lancelot on the right movies for cinemas

The trend in Nollywood now is taking all movies to the cinemas, whether cinema worthy or not. But despite might be because there is no understanding on the qualities of a cinema movie or, the economic of Nollywood movies in the hand of piracy and low patronage of CD.  Rita Dominic, AY and Lancelot Imasuen have all spoken about the cinema trend.

Rita Dominic who was the first to speak out in a post said: “Nobody sets out to make a bad film, but so many of those compromises are made and often they’re made because of vanity, pride and ego.” Following the post was her comment which read: “Let the quality of work match the hype!! #nollywood #noteverymovieshouldbeincinemas”.

She was met with different response with people, who mostly agreed with her.

CINEMA MOVIE DISCUSSION

In response to this, AY and Lancelot also stated their own opinion. AY said to LIB that:

“Rita Dominic actually made her point. I had a chat with her on other issues barely 24 hours before her post. I guess it was just a general statement to better the industry. I am only a baby producer in the industry with 3 movies that made it to the cinemas with good box office records/Guinness world records. Judging from where we are coming from, I’m impressed with the growth of Nollywood. The Cinema owners have their criteria and standards for screening any movie they show to the public. All i do is stay in my lane and do what i am supposed to do. Anyone have the right to say Timi Dakolo is a better singer than Davido, but they are both appreciated seperately in the showbiz world based on their different markets. So the seriousness and technicalities you expect from the movie 76 by Izu Ojukwu, should be different from an Ay’ 30 Days in Atlanta that is designed to make you laugh”.

Lancelot Imasuen the filmmaker also had this to say: ”In our closet we also talk about it that the cinemas should also be mindful of what they take from Nollywood because we are having a problem. Everybody is talking about Black Panther. Even Atiku is went to watch Black Panther but I have asked people when they come out of the cinemas, if they understand the foreign film they went to watch? Many people are just following trend. A lot of people do not understand the movie, they just went to watch because their friend went to watch.

 He continued by saying:

It is not all kinds of films that should really make the cinemas. There are films that are deliberately made for home viewing, internet viewing, private view. Cinema films should have a lot of high pitch, entertainment. I am strongly with Rita Dominic that it is not all fims that should be taken to the cinemas. The cinema operators should also have an internal mechanism to identify the movies that should be taken to the cinemas. The question will now be what are the yardstick for measuring films that should cinematically viewed? We should leave the audience to determine the fims that should be cinematically viewed 99.9% of movies that get to the cinemas fail because they cannot make back their returns. They use hype, Instagram and social media razzmattazz to cover it up. Did you the advert of Black Panther on Nigerian tv? The actors are not doing meet and greet in the cinemas. Howcome, for three weeks now, the cinemas are being flooded? Who advertised the film. Several of Nollywood movies are failing because they cannot meet the small budgets that was used to make them. No Nigerian film has ever made movie in the cinemas. Most of the movies end up in the red carpet. People just go to the premiere to take selfies and that is the end. What Rita said is not out of place. She did not put it well. There is no yardstick for measuring movies that should make the cinema”

Now termed Nigeria’s most eligible bachelor, Don Jazzy is one that has become too comfortable with his bachelor’s status that nothing seems to get to him anymore when it comes to the call to marry. Jim Iyke is that one person that always seem to be able to effortlessly wear being single like an accolade. Having had series of relationship rumours sorounding him, James Ikechukwu Esomugha was at a point rumoured to be planning to take his Jamaican fiancee,  Keturah Hamilton to the alter. Obviously, that was just a rumour.

Timaya is still that plantain boy that has refused to give his (typical African) mum joy by presenting her with a daughter in-law. I mean, what’s wrong with taking the bold step and popping the question; “will you?” with the assurance that any woman of his choice will say yes. 37 year old Inetimi Alfred Odon A.K.A Timaya is a proud father to two lovely daughters from his baby mama.

It seem to beat my imagination to think that a woman adorned with the beauty that can douse the tension of two feuding camps just by appearing in a war scene as Rita Dominic has never been married. I mean guys, what have you all been waiting for. One will easily think that guys will do whatever it takes to have the honour of being Rita Dominic’s husband. We’ll keep hoping that the dauntless guy will show up soon enough and break the barriers to Rita’s heart.

These celebrities certainly have all it takes and even more to have a happy home and we certainly can’t wait to hear the wedding bell ring.

I was the Kid with the Crazy Afro- Jim Iyke Opens Up on the Reasons why His Relationship with Rita Dominic Didn’t Work Out

Both actors starred in several movies together and could easily pass for the face of Nollywood at the time.

In a recent interview with Broadway TV, Jim Iyke opened up on why his relationship with Rita Dominic didn’t last. He said that there were deep into each other but he was just a kid trying to explore so Rita who was looking at a longivity couldn’t cope with his lifestyle. He said…

”Rita and I met when I was just beginning to embrace fame ,the comforts that came with it.The laurels and the distraction, even the destruction. And Rita is not the kind of woman that hangs around a groth. We were very deep with eachother. We still are great friends. As a matter of fact,it may surprise you thar we haven’t spoken to each other in over two years. But when we meet,we are cordial ,respectful .

There is that deep rooted thing of a man or woman you shared something with .I don’t think Rita at that time was looking at longevity, truthfully .Don’t forget,I was the kid with the crazy afro, ready to start a fight.
My life was around having a good time and as many conquests as possible .So,who wants that kind of guy?So this question is futuristic in a sense .Fastforward peharps 10 years from now ,that question may have had dept or hold water .

But then, what was there to hold on to?I mean, seriously ?I was partying like a crazy person. She tried to show me another life and say listen ‘there is so much more to you ” I promise you that Rita will not hang around with a lay about .I was uncontrollable. I think we have outgrown each other now .I would not see Rita as son one I wantto get involved with because so much layers of growth and evolvement have gone on in her life and so is mine .So place the same place and situation now,it may have worked .

Rita Dominic and Jim Iyke featured in movies like ‘Love Will Change Him’, ‘My Matrimonial Home,’ ‘Waterloo’ and many others.

Rita Dominic recounts how a fan stole a kiss from her

The 42 year old screen goddess who is certainly loved by so many is obviously one whose awesome personality can keep one mortified just by the sight of her presence but to think that a total stranger will go as far as planting a kiss on her lips as a show of love can be described as being a bit over the bar.

In an interview with this day, the actress recounts how she encountered a fan who shocked her by planting a kiss on her lips the moment he set his eyes on her.

She said:

“Some guy many years ago, I was trying to pass and I tapped him, just trying to say ‘excuse me’ and the next thing, he does a double take when he turned his back seeing it’s me and grabs me and just plant a kiss up my lips and then he screams my name Rita Dominic! I was in shock…what was that? Then my friend just took me away from there. I’m human, I wouldn’t know, she responded laughing. The thing is, first and foremost I’m quite a polite person. It takes me a while to be pushed. It’s possible that I would have just ignored and smiled since it’s a fan and it was a reflex action. He was just excited to see me. I could have ignored it I’m sure. I found it unexpected and was in shock. I wasn’t angry. It just happened in a split of seconds and I was just out of that place. But when I think about it I actually laugh.”

On how she has managed to stay relevant in the movie industry for decades, the A’list actress said:

“What I do is I try to be better than I was last year, I try to be better than I was two years ago and I try to be better than I was at the start of my career in terms of my acting. I look at my work from way back and I say okay maybe these are the things I’m going to do. I just constantly look for ways of immersing myself in a role. I feel like over the years when people have seen that this person has constantly been growing, automatically your relevance is there because people believe in your ability to bring a character to light. So because they believe in that your ability, they constantly want to work with you.”
