From the club to Church floors

De Mogul’s hit song, which also features Ms Mo and Makhensa, Oe Batla Kae, is gaining popularity even in the church. The song which was released in April, shot to the top of music chats to become a national anthem on dance floors.

Tshepo Rangaka, which is his real name, was born and raised in Mafikeng. He is a DJ, music producer, remixer and mixing engineer at De Mogul Music.

Among the videos that went viral was one of Zion youth in their green robes, singing and dancing to the tune. Muslim men are also seen adopting the song, which is heard in the background,  in their praise routine.

This song’s impact is so great that it is being compared to Sister Bettina, a song sang by Mgarimbe, that was released 11 years ago. It also has the most trending memes on social media platforms.

The most surprising thing, even to the producer De Mogul, is that it has gained popularity in the church, despite its explicit and raunchy tone.

The direct translation of the song is directed towards talking about sex, with the man asking a woman how she wants it. She then answers, in direct translation, “…from the back.”

De Mogul  says he is overwhelmed by the response towards the song. “Seeing church people sing and dance to it makes the whole thing so surreal because they weren’t the target market.

I’m honored and humbled by the response, especially from the elderly. I made the track with the youth in mind. Seeing them dance and having fun gives me so much joy – it’s like the cherry on top!”
