Caster Semenya accuses IAAF of confidentiality breach

Caster Semenya has come out accusing IAAF of a breach of confidentiality. This is in regard to the hearing of her case against the body.

Her lawyers were responding to a press release issued yesterday by the IAAF. The body named their five expert witnesses in the matter to decide if athletes with hyperandrogenism gain an unfair advantage of other women because of their higher levels of naturally occurring testosterone.

This is a case that is expected to run most of the week.

“The arbitration proceedings are subject to strict confidentiality provisions and this information should not have been released‚” Semenya’s lawyers said in a statement.

“Ms Semenya believes the IAAF press release is a clear breach of the confidentiality provisions that was orchestrated in an effort to influence public opinion in circumstances where the IAAF knew that Ms Semenya would not be prepared to respond because she was complying with her confidentiality obligations.

“As a matter of fairness Ms Semenya raised this issue with the CAS and has been granted permission to publicly release information responding to the IAAF press release‚ including disclosing the experts who are testifying in support of Ms Semenya’s case.

“This information will be released tomorrow‚” he lawyers said.

Caster shared her Nike advert with fans on Monday, captioning the short video: “Too fast? Too bad. I was born to do this.”

The clip, narrated by Caster, shows her life playing out in reverse, starting with her as a world-renowned athlete and ending with her as a child.

“Will it be simpler if I stopped winning? Would you be more comfortable if I was less proud? Would you prefer I hadn’t worked so hard? Or just didn’t run? Or stopped at my first steps? That’s too bad, because I was born to do this,” she says in the video.

Caster Semenya gives stunning performance in Paris

Caster Semenya made a stunning performance when she made it to the fourth-fastest time ever run in the women’s 800m. This was at the Diamond League in Paris on Saturday.

She dominated the run and reached the end clocking 1min 54.25sec, a stunt that left many in awe.

IAAF rules

This was a perfect time for Semenya who has been challenging IAAF’s rules on testosterone occurring in female athletes being introduced in November 1st.

Caster Semenya to take pills to reduce testosterone levels

New eligibility rules being drafted by IAAF will directly impact on Caster Semenya. These are regulations for a separate female classification to be known as an Athlete with Differences of Sexual Development (DSDs).

The regualtions are expected to be confirmed today and should an athlete challenge them, it may end up in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

The decision will force Semenya to either take medication to reduce her testosterone or move to longer distance events.

Semenya will therefore have to switch to 5,000m and 10,000m if she refuses to take the medication.

Case

Semenya‚ who is also the Olympic and world 800m champion‚ was first placed in the spotlight in 2009 with the IAAF saying she had undergone a gender verification process.

Her focus was to inspire girls from rural areas. “Sometimes‚ to be honest‚ if you always win‚ you run out of emotions. You don’t know how to express feelings‚ you don’t know how to celebrate. But it’s not about me anymore. It’s about the African girls who come from the rural areas who do not believe that they can do this . . . if you believe in yourself‚ anything is possible. This is just for them‚ to inspire them that they need to work hard‚ to believe in themselves.”

Caster Semenya breaks national record at the Commonwealth games

Caster Semenya won gold at the Commonwealth games yesterday when she broke the 1,500m national record.

She knocked more than a second off Zola Budd’s national record of 4:01.81 set in 1984, by doing that in 4min 00.71sec.

“I knew when I got to the 800m mark and the time was 2:08.00 and thought I must just wait for the last 250m and I just had to maintain the pace,” she said after her win.

After breaking the record, Semenya has set herself up for a golden Games double.

The two medallists behind her, Beatrice Chepkoech of Kenya and Melissa Courtney of Wales also set their personal bests.

Semenya says she will try to break the 35 year old 800m world record, later in the week.

Caster Semenya graduates

Caster Semenya has  added a degree  to her growing list of achievements.

Caster posted a picture of herself on her Instagram page in her graduate gown and simply captioned it #mamaimadeit.

We’ll say. It was her wife‚ Violet Raseboya‚ who took the picture and just days before the graduation posted a message to Caster on social media.

“She is a person. She has hope. She respect others. She has faith. She is smart. She is dedicated. She is powerful and she is strong. Mokgadi Semenya Sa Mma MASAI Congrats‚ what’s more?”
