Top SA actresses create monologue in honor of Ma Winnie Mandela

Some of the country’s top actresses have put their heads together. They have created a monologue that celebrates the life and struggles of Ma Winnie Mandela.

Some of them are Thuso Mbedu, Lerato Mvelase, Connie Chiume, Hlubi Mboya, Mona Monyane and Busisiwe Mtshali. The actresses have recorded monologues based on certain portions of Ma Winnie’s life. This has been done for the online acting portal, Actor Spaces. It will be available in the next few days.

Thuso’s monologue

Thuso spoke of how she came up with the monologue.

“It was a challenge for me. I had not studied or followed Winnie’s life as much as I had hoped to prior to her death. Afterwards I immersed myself in books and documentaries about her. It ignited a fire inside me‚ it taught me that if we are strong we can make a difference in the world. We all complain about things but Ma Winnie showed us that we must look at how we can make a difference in the world.”

She wrote a monologue about the time Ma Winnie was interrogated and kept in solitary confinement for several days.

Often times, Thuso defaults to crying when shooting such emotional scenes but she wanted to be as strong as Ma Winnie would have been.

“When you reflect on a traumatic experience‚ like I was doing‚ you have to keep some things back to keep yourself sane. You can’t break down. You have to keep it in and be strong or you won’t be able to tell your story properly.”

Winnie died at Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg last week surrounded by close friends and family. A memorial service for the struggle stalwart is currently underway at Orlando Stadium with an official funeral to be held on Saturday at the same venue.

Best celebrity’s wedding dresses of the year

They looked everything stunning. From the moment they walked in to take their long walk to the aisle, our eyes were fixated on their gowns. The detail, the design and even the color were part of what we all wanted to see.

2017 celebrity weddings and engagements

Does a wedding always follow after an engagement? What if the relationship breaks to the point of no return after the engagement?

These couples have stood the test of time, proving that relationships work.

Pearl Modiadie

Six months after calling off her engagement to then fiancé Nkululeko Buthelezi, they rekindled their flame.

Earlier this year, a shy Pearl confirmed saying, “I can confirm that we are back together and very happy with each other. But that’s all I can say because I hate discussing my private life in the media.”

Pearl was spotted showing off her wedding ring on social media and at public events.

Enhle Mlotshwa

Enhle Mlotshwa and husband Black Coffee have been together for a long time. They had a traditional wedding in 2011, just three months after dating.

The rest, as they say, is history.

At the beginning of this year, they had a white wedding that became the talk of town.

Bontle Modiselle

The media went into a frenzy with news of Bontle Modiselle’s engagement to boyfriend, Priddy Ugly.

It however turned out to be a ‘fake’ engagement. The supposed engagement was for a music video, and did not take place in real life. In a post to clarify things, Bontle said that although they are in love and have been dating for a while, they are not engaged nor married. Everything was staged for the music video.

Fans came out saying how the two had played with their feelings.

We hope it happens soon though.

Minnie Dlamini

Minnie managed to keep her two year relationship to Quinton Jones, a secret from the public.

She got engaged to the TV producer last year.

This year, the two got married in a star-studded wedding.

She let fans into her wedding when she released a three part docu-series on the wedding.

Thando Thabethe

After being together for four years, Frans Mashao asked Thando to be his wife early this year, and she said yes.

They met on a yacht at a media event and Thando found him funny. They exchanged numbers and that was it.

Kids who have taken after their celebrity parents

An apple never falls too far from it’s tree.  These children are just an example of this age old adage. They have embraced their parents celebrity life style and made it their own.

Khanukani

Khanukani, is indeed following her mother’s footsteps. The cute Khanyi’s mini-me is the face of Mayo – a flavoured drinking yogurt. Khanukani is certainly a star in the making. Her Instagram following is over 14.8 followers.

Thandolwethu

Pearl Thusi’s daughter is following in her mama’s footsteps for sure. At her age, Thando has already been working as a model. She has showcased kids’ clothing in some of Mzansi’s popular magazines. She has also already been associated with big brands like Luminance.

Bahumi Madisakwane

Somizi and Palesa Mocuminyane’s daughter is ready for her chance in the spotlight. Her parents and grandparents (Mary Twala and the late Ndaba Mhlongo) have been on our TV screens for years. From simply being daughters of celebrities, she has become a celebrity herself.  After all, she comes from a family of stars!

Phila says the magic of acting came alive when he landed a leading part in the show.

Rethabile Khumalo

Winnie Khumalo’s daughter, Rethabile Khumalo auditioned for the M-Net reality singing competition Idols, but was told by judges that she was too young for the competition. Rethabile has already been featured on two albums. She was on Kwela Tebza and multi-award winning hip hop act Deep Level’s albums. She can also be heard on her mother’s latest album.
