Imbewu actors hit with salary cuts

Since its inception in 2018, soapie Imbewu: The Seed has been hit with a lot of drama. According to latest reports by publication Sunday Sun, there are claims of staff having their salary reduced to about half of what they were initially earning.
The publication goes on to say that the news has not been delivered in a proper way to the production team. The inside sources allege that some of their salaries were reduced by R10,000 from their original package.
The producers have decided to reduce their staff’s salaries hence they believed that they are earning “too much”. This has said to have angered some of the staff because not all actors are affected by this heartbreaking move.

‘Imbewu’ is all about the drama

Imbewu premiered last night. The story is about two brothers with a dark secret between them and an Indian family.

Starring in it are Leleti Khumalo, Mpumelelo Bhulose, Thembi Mtshali and Sandile Dlamini.

Imbewu is set to send a message of social cohesion.

“In South Africa, we have not yet had the opportunity to see Indians and Africans come together to tell a story with a social cohesion message,” Duma Ndlovu the executive producer said.

Theme

“The theme revolves around infertility, and the disputes and difficulties families encounter in the process…

“We are excited. It’s a milestone – a new direction in television. We are serious about television in Durban. We are here to stay.”

Lady behind sexual alegations against ‘Imbewu’ cannot be found

After Imbewu made headlines for alleged sexual misconduct, the young actress who made the claims is nowhere to be found. The producer, Anant Singh, now says this could be the work of someone trying to be mischievous.

“No one seems to know anything (about it). I think it is someone trying to make some monkey business. The show is coming out, people are jealous. You never know what is in people’s heads. It is quite unfortunate and very disappointing. If someone has something to say, come out and say ‘this is what happened to me’. Then we can either defend it or say you are talking nonsense.”

Allegations

Amanda Phakathi, made allegations of inappropriate sexual remarks and being humiliated on set on social media. Attempts to get hold of her however failed as no one knows her and she has not made any contact with the producers of the show.

Singh said they were concerned that Phakathi had disappeared. “The show is coming out. People are jealous. You will never know what is in people’s heads. It’s quite unfortunate and very disappointing – if someone has something to say, they must come out and say ‘this is what happened to me’.”

e.tv said the matter was being investigated.

Imbewu is set to hit TV screens on April 16. It revolves around the family dynasties and two brothers in KwaZulu-Natal.

E.tv’s ‘Imbewu’ rocked by sexual misconduct allegations

Amanda Phakathi recently spoke out on alleged sexual misconduct on set of upcoming e.tv drama Imbewu.

She was working as an extra when a male crew member swore at her. Taking to Facebook, Amanda called the production crew out.

“You people treat extras like nobodies. I will make sure I gather up a team of extras and boycott Imbewu and get the media too. The way they treat extras there is disgusting! Those male crew are perverts as well.”

Amanda even went on to tag the director, Duma Ka Ndlovu.

“When the shoot began they called me in to be an extra for the scene. The men there (part of the crew I think) kept pointing at my legs and laughing. I felt so uncomfortable… As if there was something wrong with me.”

Response

Duma then responded to the allegations and said an investigation would be launched.

“Amanda, I responded to your post and requested that you send me an e-mail. I have not heard from you. If you are to be taken seriously you need to give the production an opportunity to look into your allegations. We take allegations of this nature seriously, we can’t take this any further without you approaching the production and substantiating the complaint so that steps could be taken.”

E.tv’s general manager said it was aware of the allegations.

“eMedia Investments takes a zero tolerance stance on sexual harassment and abuse, in any form, and views all allegations of this nature as very serious. The moment the channel became aware of this allegation, it initiated an investigation with the production company of Imbewu: The Seed.”

Numerous attempts to reach Amanda, have however been unsuccessful.

Imbewu is a drama series set in KwaZulu-Natal. It is set to hit screens from April 16th.
