Kgomotso Christopher scoops first Safta award

Actress Kgomotso Christopher scooped her first Safta award on Saturday night. This was in the Best Actress in a TV Soap category, a category she has been nominated twice for before. The third time thus made her lucky.

She beat Nomzamo Mbatha and Dawn Thandeka King to take home the award.

This year, she decided to dress in white, something she has never done.

“I’ve never worn white on the red carpet, so I wanted to go for a different colour to what I normally wear.

“I always go for colour. This year, I switched it up.

“Like the past two nominations I have had, I had no expectations. I am savouring the moment.”

The awards were hosted by Pearl Modiadie and Thomas Msengana.

Kgomotso Christopher speaks on getting ready for new Scandal! season

After a long December break,  it takes a while before getting in sync once again. Kgomosto Christopher spoke about her experience and what she does to be back in sync.

It is all about getting her mind and soul in the right framework to start the year.

She explains: “While I don’t focus too much on resolutions, I like to ponder on what I hope the universe will bless me with in the new year. I need to be honest with what I need to do to prepare myself to receive these blessing. What steps to take to align myself with the blessings I would like to receive. For this reason, I do a lot more introspective and soul revival at the beginning of the year.”

Getting back into her role as Yvonne on Scandal! usually starts with the look of the character.

“When it’s back to work and it’s the beginning of the year, it’s time to get back into continuity. Nails, hair and even possibly your weight,” she says. Though the star adds that she’s been lucky enough never to fall victim to that little bit of weight gain over the festive period that many of us know so well. So for her it’s all about restoring Yvonne’s long, red signature nails and making sure that she treats her natural hair “before the year of wigs rolls in”.

The last thing to get Kgomotso’s mind in the right place is her focus on the storyline.

“This is the time for reading story breakdowns and of course having a chat with producers about what they have in mind for the character and any ideas you may have as the actor.”

She believes that 2019 is her year of yes.

“For me this means pursuing dreams without second-guessing them, saying yes to the universe and all the blessing I would like to receive. Choosing to see the ‘yes’ as well as positives in life and not dwell on challenges.”

Kgomotso Christopher surprised by her husband

Kgomotso Christopher did not expect to see what she found when she went home.

It had always been a dream, but nothing warranted the fact that she would get it this soon.

Kgomotso was lured home and talked about it on Instagram.

“He told me to rush home because there’s a guy who needs to fix his sound system. This is what I found. A whole Baby Grand. It’s not my birthday, it’s not even my birthday month. But this is a present I’ve hoped for since I was a child and he knew. And HE knew. I fell in love with the piano because I had an uncle who could play multiple instruments including the piano. I begged my parents to squeeze their thin pockets for me to add piano lessons, in addition to being strangled by my ballet lessons and drama lessons. It was only for one year. In that year my piano teacher told me not to give up on playing, even of we didn’t have a piano at home. She told me to practice at home on the kitchen table & spend all my days in the school music room. I did. And in one year, I took the Royal Academy of Music Board exams and fell a few points short of a Distinction.

I was 12. I am now 38. God. I finally have a piano at home. I will start learning again. Thank you my #SmileKeeper. Another dream of mine you’ve made come true.”

Kgomotso Christopher gets candid on matters marriage

In the latest issue of True Love magazine, Kgomotso Christopher talked about her life from her acting, family and marriage.

Being an actress has had its challenges both emotionally and financially. It is however her husband’s support that has kept her going.

“I’m blessed that regardless of the challenges we’ve had, we support each other on so many levels – we put each other’s growth first,” said Kgomotso.

Kgomotso and Christopher met in university and have been together for the past 14 years. With a long distance relationship, they’ve had to make sacrifices.

Her husband Calvin has a job position that requires him to travel a lot. He currently works in Dubai and so the family has to make trips every now and then to and from Dubai.

“What that has afforded for our family, is opening the world to us. Travel has become part of our lives. During school holidays we go to Dubai.”

There was a time, Kgomotso says, that her husband would travel home every weekend just to be with his family.

“My husband is an amazing dad and when he’s around, he makes sure he’s completely involved.”

Kgomosto Christopher opens up about her amaizing year

Southafrican Actress Kgomtso Christopher sat down with IOL to describe her new roles roles in TV.Kgomotso is well known for her role in Scandal.

Kgomotso was recently chosen to be an ambassador for the Supreme Women Campaign. The campaigns celebrate powerful women who are the best in their industries.

You can read the whole interview down below:

About the #SupremeWomen campaign, she praises, “For me as an African woman, I believe you can find supreme women in every corner, they’re in our boardrooms, they are in a shack raising doctors of tomorrow, because of the sheer character that is a woman.”

The Scandal star’s passion is unmistakable as she chats about women taking their place as forerunners in the media industry.

Christopher notes, ““It’s high time we say these supreme women exist in our lives, so why doesn’t the content reflect that? Why does the content always reflect a male lead, surrounded by women that are weak?

“It’s lovely that broadcasters like e.tv are beginning to embrace the story of women and  where we are today. We we need to tell more of their stories.”.
In the past year, since leaving the local soapie Isidingo, Christopher has been involved in other projects including the SABC 2 drama, Thola.

She explains, ““I had a very busy year, a year into Scandal! I did a drama series on SABC 2 ironically, that aired only recently. Now I’m full time on Scandal!as YV. And that takes up 100  percent of my time, I don’t even get time to do my nails that’s why I was very excited to take a day go to the spa for my full body massage. A the chance to time to switch off and relax.”

With working on a soapie monopolizing much of a time – leaving very little to do other projects at the moment – she tries her best to ensure it doesn’t eat into family time.

She explains, “The most important thing is to be realistic, I’m not one of those artists who does everything; I wake up, I’m there, at night I’m somewhere, on weekends I’m there, it’s a rare occurrence and it’s usually work. I think balancing comes with being very choosy about what you do. I had my chance to travel and be exclusively answering only to my needs. Now I have very young children.”

Christopher admits, ““He is incredible, whatever he touches, whatever he does, it’s just incredible. It’s an absolute dream to work with him, literally. He’s someone I met when I was in high school, I stopped him across the road, and I said please sign my homework diary and he signed it and I still have that homework diary.

After so many years I never though he will be a close colleague of mine. He is still an inspiration, I still look up to him.”
What’s next? More “scandal” of course – but it’s scripted!
