Mthokozisi Ndaba girlfriend weighs in on his assault charges

The girlfriend of Idols SA runner-up Mthokozisi Ndaba has spoken out for the first time since he was charged with assault.

Speaking to East Coast Radio’s drive show with Bongani and Mags, ‘Miss P’, as she would like to be known, says she does not believe he was abusive on the night in question.

Mthokozisi was accused of assaulting 24-year-old Neo Tsele at an apartment in Braamfontein last month. Pictures of her badly-bruised faced were shared online, with many calling on Mthokozisi to explain himself.

The charges against the aspiring singer were provisionally withdrawn after Neo reportedly failed to show up in court.

‘Miss P’ says when she heard Neo’s interview about the alleged assault on-air, she was concerned that people were only getting one side of the story.

“If she was so passionate about getting back at him, and proving he had done this to her, she would have been the first one in court. But she was a no-show at court,” she said.

‘Miss P’ added she was not with Mthokozisi when the alleged incident took place.

“I only found out through social media, and through him, on that Saturday when he was leaving to come through to KZN. That morning when he called me from the airport, he said: ‘You know what P, you may find something out on social media about me assaulting a lady. I don’t know what’s going on. But when I find out more I will let you know’.”

When asked whether Mthokozisi assaulted Neo, Miss P said she did not believe so.

“To my knowledge, no, he did not assault her.” she said.

Mthokozisi releases a statement to help set the record straight

This years  Idols  competition was tough, with both Paxton and runner-up, Mthokozisi Ndaba (25) showing off their musical skills.

The audience exploded into cheers when Paxton was announced the winner – but Mthokozisi simply walked off the stage after giving the teenager a brief, side hug.

What Mthokozisi had to say

On Tuesday, Mthokozisi released another statement to help set the record straight, The Citizen reports.

“I would firstly like to take this opportunity and apologise to all media houses for my absence at the press conference after the announcement of the Idols winner of 2017,” he said.

“This was unplanned and unforeseen as I had prepared myself for the results going either way. It was a moment of weakness since I had wanted and needed this so badly not just for me but for my family.”

The young crooner added that he had felt like he’d let his family down by not claiming the title.

“I had planned to dedicate the win to my late parents and my late son, and at that moment I felt like I had let them down. I guess I let being human get the better of me.”

Mthokozisi add that he had congratulated Paxton after the show, contrary to what people might think.

“The other contestants from the top ten came to wish her well and as required, I had to move from the stage and allow her to celebrate her moment of glory. This was in no way a sign of being a sore loser.”

“The best decision I ever made was auditioning for Idols, it has truly changed my life for the better,” he concluded. “Once again, I thank you for all your love and support. God bless you all.”
