Sindi Dlathu’s exciting new chapter in ‘The River’

After years of acting as a good girl, Sindi Dlathu has dropped that good persona for a more exciting one. That of playing a cold-hearted killer.

New role

In her new role, Sindi plays Lindiwe. The new soap opera is about the rich and fabulous. It is set to premiere in January.

“She [Lindiwe] is totally different from Thandaza, which is what I have been craving for a while. I think I had done all that I could do with Thandaza and I was just looking for a challenge,” Sindi said. “Lindiwe is 180-degrees different from Thandaza. You do not threaten her livelihood or family. She comes back hard. I’m having the time of my life.

“We have been shooting now for a couple of weeks and it’s going really well, but challenging at the same time. It’s a different character, but I’m a theatre thespian. I have been playing different roles on stage even when I was on Muvhango.”

Sindi’s role in Muvhango had become tedious, pushing her to leave.

“All the stories in Muvhango were powerful, the magic realism of the show and the fact that the show spoke to everyone in the country was amazing,” she said.

“I miss my colleagues on Muvhango. I was head-hunted, but I feel like everything happened at the right time.

“2017 has been a rewarding and fulfilling year for me. I went through a lot of changes, it was scary but I think it was just God’s timing.”

Next year, Sindi will be celebrating 30 years in the entertainment industry.

Her first acting gig was in 1988 in the stage version of Sarafina. In 1993 she scored her breakout TV role alongside the late Joe Mafela in comedy drama Khululeka.

Sindi Dlathu bows out of ‘Muvhango’

After two decades on SABC2’s drama Muvhango, Sindi Dlathu has bowed out. She is one of the longest serving actresses on the show.

Sindi has played as Thandaza Mokoena on the show. She has been part of the show since its inception, when the first episode was aired in 1997.

Her resignation comes shortly after Muvhango celebrated its 20th birthday.

“After 20 years, I’ve decided to give the Thandaza character a break in order for me to grow as an artist, venture out to explore new opportunities and discpver what I can do as an actress and as a human being,” she said.
