Zahara gets stabbed

Zahara sustained minor injuries after people who appeared to be job-seekers stabbed her.

She took to Instagram to share what happened that led to her cancellation of the Mandela concert in the UK.

“I always believe that when you have a loaf of bread, one could always be able to shae just a little with someone else. If you have 1000 surely even a R5 would be worth something to someone. I was due to be in London UK by Wednesday for the Mandela concert however couldn’t make it because Tuesday night just as I drove by Spar in my area I reached out to give “job seekers” some money instead they reached out grabbed my arm and stabbed me, tried to open the door, with the intent to cause more bodily harm,” she wrote.

Zahara’s tour date has therefore been postponed.

“It’s very sad that one’s humility and humanitarian beliefs are welcomed in this manner. Buphelile Ubuntu. Mandela tour now postponed to October,” she wrote.

Zahara to speak about Madiba’s legacy at London Concert

Zahara has been scheduled to perform at a Nelson Mandela centenary celebration concert in London. This is in August.

She plans to use the platform to educate people about Madiba and Winnie Mandela’s legacy. Her goal is to make SA proud.

“I am very excited to be performing at the concert. As far as I know, I am the only South African woman to perform at the concert. The final program isn’t finalized yet, but I have been asked to give speeches before (the concert) about Tata’s legacy.”

Speech

Zahara had a special bond with Madiba and plans to use that to speak about the memories she shared with him.

“I will honor them both and won’t be scared of talking about her. I know there are people who disrespected and ignored her while she was alive. The dirt and things they were saying about her was not nice and now they are trying to make money off of the mourning. I am not one of them. I had a special relationship with both her and Tata and I will share that with the world.”

Zahara is also set to perform at the Africa All-star concert in Toronto.

Zahara states she is not about to lose her house

Zahara’s name was once again on everyone’s lips last month when a Sunday Sun report claimed she was on the brink of losing her R1-million home because sis was not paying her bond.

The star disappeared after the reports, but has finally broken her silence on the claims, telling TshisaLIVE that nothing could be further from the truth.

“I am sitting in the house right now and everything is fine.  I have not lost the house and I am not going to lose it. It’s all lies. These rumours are nothing new. Every year there are reports that I am losing my home, but which house did I lose if I am still here?”

Zahara said that she was tired of always having her name linked to negativity and more drama than a soapie.

“I don’t know why they are creating things and making drama. They must ask me about these things if they have questions. But nobody does that.”

Zahara to honour Robbie Malinga in a song

Robbie Malinga passed on a few weeks ago and Zahara one of his proteges is thinking of ways to honour the late lengend.

Speaking to Tshisha Live Zahara spoke of ways she wanted to honour the Legend.

What Zahara had to say

“It still doesn’t feel real because it came as a real shock. I mean he was performing, and the next minute he was sick, and then passed on. It was too much. Our Christmas will never be the same. I was a daughter to him and I have sat in silence a lot of times since his death and just cried. I am just trying to do what he would have wanted me to do: to keep going.”

Zahara said she was toying with several ideas of how to honour Robbie’s legacy, including possibly releasing a song, musical project or live show dedicated to him.

“I want to pay tribute to him through my music because that is the gift he helped me share with the world. I will definitely include his music and even his young artists in my live DVD which I am recording later this year. He mentored me and I would love to return the favour by mentoring one of his artists.”

“I promised myself that I would live in his footsteps and always make him proud of me. He did so much for me and it is still hard talking about it (Robbie’s death)”.

Zahara said if she had one last conversation with her mentor, she would have told him to be strong.

“If I had one more moment with him I would tell him to hang in there. He touched so many lives. I would tell him to not let go. But now that he is not here, I will hang in there for him.”

Zahara’s army comes to her defence

Zahara is feeling the importance of having an army. This is after her fans, dubbed the Zahara army, decided to fight for her music to be played more locally.

After returning from a gig in Botswana recently, the singer discovered her fans had been complaining that radio stations had allegedly “seized” playing music from her new album Mgodi .

“Apparently they heard that my music has not been played on radio. They are the ones that listen to me and promotes me even in my absence. I just came back from Botswana but personally I wouldn’t know if it is true.”

The Zahara army posted a message on their official page recently attacking radio stations for not playing songs from Mgodi. They started a campaign to encourage fans to call radio stations and compilers to complain.

The call for action was however not sent by either her or her management.

“It’s not me sending the SMS and spreading the message but I am grateful for the love. If it’s the truth, it’s the truth. They are the ones listening,” she said.

Her army also told her that there was nothing she can do to stop their campaign to get her music on radio more.

“They told me there’s nothing I can do to stop them because they are concerned. They said if I’m not going to do anything about it then they will take the steps forward.”

Her new album Mgodi, was released last month.

Zahara speaks on her new album

Zahara is currently working on her new Album Mgodi. The artist caught up with IOL Entertaiment to discuss the details on her new album.

Read the full interview:

The title of the album means “hole”, but to Zahara it’s so much more. She tells me: “I remember just sitting and thinking: ‘I was born alone in my village in Phumlani (just outside East London). It’s not like I was made by people here in Joburg. No man is an island – you need a team – but they can never be you.”

“So Mgodi is all about my journey. You know when you’re feeling like people are chasing you? Like how journalists chase me for nothing,” she cackles. “Mgodi is about people chasing you. People can be chased in many ways. So you just run and find a place to hide, but in that hole what you don’t calculate is you didn’t bring a rope with you. How are you going to climb out?”

She continues: “Eventually, you will get out of that hole. God knows his children and he always takes care of them.” Having gone gold in just six hours with this album, I’m inclined to agree with her statement. Over 12 tracks, Mgodi sees Zahara sing about her faith on God in the Valley. She sings about late, great South African musicians on Tribute (which is the only song she didn’t write).

“My dream was to inspire people,” she says. “If you go gold in six hours and platinum in 20 hours, how many people have you inspired already? As people, we need to know who we are and what we have in our hands. It’s not about making hits.

“Do I still have to prove to people that I can sing? Do you think I still have to explain to people that I write songs? Do you think I still have to explain to people that I’m a record-breaker? I had to break my own records.”

So then, is she bored of chasing the records set by the woman in the mirror? “Well, that’s why I have to go to America, girl” she says with a teasing twang.

Collaboration

Zahara has inked an international deal with Warner Music and hopes that she will represent not just Mzansi but the continent when she tours the States in March. Speaking of the land of Trump, veteran American saxophonist Kirk Whalum is featured on two songs on Mgodi. Zahara recalls how Whalum wound up on Umfazi and Ina Mvula.

“Kirk Whalum flew himself here. He asked me if he could be on my album,” she says matter-of-factly. “At first, he just wanted to do a project with me. Then he heard I was doing an album and he just asked if he could be a part of it. He even said I shouldn’t. pay him

It was a trade because he just asked that, in exchange, I write two songs for his next album. I’m going to go to LA for two weeks, soon, to write two songs for him.” In Xhosa, I ask. “Yes, I’ll write them in Xhosa and English. They must know! He loves me singing in Xhosa,” she shrugs then laughs.

While she’s talking to me about this, Mojalefa “Mjakes” Thebe – the afro-pop maverick who produced this album and has worked with Zahara on her previous work – walks into the suite. Zahara is happy to have him join us for the interview and watching them talk like siblings is quite funny

I ask Mjakes about their working process and he shares: “From the Loliwe album, we would record the song and some of the questions would only come after we’ve recorded. I’d say: ‘Zahara, you must confess. (This sounds like) you’ve been through a lot!’

“Zahara and I have come to a place of understanding. Before the first album, I sat with her and we were just laying down ideas. It’s easy to connect because I know the kind of person she is, how she writes and how to interpret what she writes. That’s why you’ll see that people say: ‘yoh! This song gets me so emotional’. A part of me knows how to get that emotion out of her.”

So what’s the secret, I ask Mjakes. “The secret is: I want to feel those emotions before the people out there can. With some songs, I’d be so near to tears.”

“Ja,” Zahara interjects. “You used to cry! You cry a lot,” she laughs.

Depending on your disposition, Mgodi is the kind of album that could make you shed a tear or two. Zahara is content if it means you can relate.

“For me,” she says as she places a hand on her chest, “it’s not about fame. It’s not about hits. It’s about telling my story. Do you want to hear my story or not? It’s up to you. I’m telling a story from track one to 12 and maybe you’ll find your story in one of those songs.”

Zahara’s new album, Mgodi, is in stores and online.

Zahara’s album goes gold in six hours after release

Zahara’s latest album Mgodi was certified within hours of its release on Friday. In order for an album to be certified gold, 15,000 copies need to be sold.

Warner Music South Africa’s marketing director Adrian King

The album sold over 16,700 physical copies and hundreds of digital copies within the first 24 hours of its release.

Warner Brothers South Africa managing director Adrian King said that the goal now was to replicate the success of Zahara’s previous albums. This is to be done by going platinum and multi-platinum.

“We are super excited about this achievement. We know that Zahara is talented and we are confident that her album will soon go platinum and multi-platinum.”

Zahara has been under public scrutiny for the past couple of months, but was glad that people had looked beyond the ‘negative reports’.

“I am very happy because the album went gold in six hours. All I ever want to do is make music. That is why I have always tried to tell my story through my albums. I told people to not listen to what was said about me but listen to my story through my music. And it is amazing that people are listening to me and buying my album. I am a daughter of Africa and most people who read the reports about me are reading it because they are concerned about me. That is why when I release music they go and buy. They always support me,” she said.

She celebrated her achievement by inviting some of her fans to her house to spend time with her.

Zahara is set to start her nationwide tour before heading to America to promote her album.

Zahara and Ian “planning to wed soon”

Loliwe hit maker Zahara and her boyfriend Ian are in it for the long haul and plan to make things official soon.

The couple confirmed they were dating in June this year, a few months after Zahara and her then fiance Amaza Ntshanga called things off. They are madly in love, and in Ian’s words, couldn’t be happier.

“Zahara is an incredible woman. She inspires me and I have learned a lot from her. She has helped me deal with so much in my life and I really appreciate all the support I get from her,” he said.

From the moment he and Zahara met, he was sure that she as the right woman for him, and he wanted to build a future with her. Ian added. They met at a braai and felt an instant connection, striking up a friendship and deciding to date shortly after.

“I feel at peace with her. I see my future with her. I told her family that the next time they see me I will bring cows (to pay lobola) and I am serious about that. We are working towards that and it will be soon,” he added.

Through communication, Zahara’s private life has never affected Ian because they are completely open with each other.

“The secret to our relationship is communication. We speak about everything and I often tell her that there must be something special about her to always be spoken about. She is strong and focused so I am never worried about her,” Ian added.

Ian is 23 years old, five years younger than Zahara, but to Zahara age doesn’t make a difference as he is mature.

“I won’t be exploited” – Zahara tells fans

Over the weekend, Zahara, who is popularly known for her hit song Loliwe, refused to perform for fans after what she claimed was a breach of contract by the music festival’s organizers. She refused to take the stage on Saturday, leaving fans disappointed. She later explained that she left the festival after the organizers allegedly failed to pay her.

“The issue was non-payment. We had a contract an agreement with the festival that they would pay me 50 percent before the festival and the rest at the show. I didn’t receive any money from them but still travelled to the festival because I thought they would pay. They didn’t and so I refused to perform.”

The festival’s organizers have however disputed Zahara’s claims, saying that they reached a mutual decision to cancel her performance due to bad weather.

“A decision was made by both ourselves and Zahara’s management that because of the weather and because she was running late, she would not perform and in good faith we would allow her to keep the deposit. We had the money for her but the show had to be stopped,” Jackie Chili, one of the organizers said.

Despite having received several messages from her disappointed fans, she maintained that her decision was final and she won’t allow herself to be exploited.

“I won’t be exploited. I refuse to work without pay. This is my business and I can’t perform for free. I understand that my fans are disappointed and wanted to see me but that is what I have decided,” she added.

She said she would not perform at the festival again but would return to the city later this year to tour her upcoming album.

“I will go back with my own show, organized by me, and it will be amazing.”
