Exclusive: Jeff Koinange finally speaks after rumour started going around he was the sole reason Janet Mbugua was quiting…checkout yet another twist into the whole issue

Jeff Koinange has spoken to Ghafla about the rumour claiming that he is the sole reason why Janet Mbugua and some other journalists at citizen TV are calling it quits.

Judging from what was going round social media, apparently the fella was getting about 2 million Kenyan shillings yet he his show airs only once a week.

This was said to be the reason the others were willing to walk out however speaking to Ghafla this afternoon we have learnt that no one is leaving the station.

Jeff Koinange says that they are one happy family and the stories going round are nothing but propaganda.

He gave us his word saying that Janet and Hussein are still working with citizen TV, something that has left us wondering what exactly is going on at the media house.

Anyway, as for now fans shouldn’t be worried about not seeing Janet Mbugua nor Hussein Muhhamed on TV. Below is a screenshot of the conversation we had with the TV host.

Dear Jeff Koinange: Do you remember how Kenyans poured their hearts out for Esther Arunga?

Legendary talk show host Jeff Koinange has been wagging on people’s tongues ever since he announced he the return of his show on air on Citizen TV.

Twitter bigwig Leon Lidigu has written a open letter to Jeff Koinange remanding him of so many things including principles of journalism.

Jeff Koinange on Citizen TV

Read the letter below:

Dear Jeff Koinange,

Just like  many other Journalists including my dear  friend  Miss Njoki Chege  and I  believe , Journalism is not only beautiful  but sacred . Let’s not call a spade a big spoon . You are the ‘ biggest ‘ Journalist on TV right now and as your friend , I have decided to pen this down heartily perharps just remind you what you already know about Journalism .

Let’s start with the 5 core principles of Journalism  because I noticed most issues many people had with you from most conversations online and offline were symbiotically related to them . Don’t mind the twitter chokoras and Ksh 527 blogger wannabes who were channing damaging articles and even try telling you stuff that you didn’t know about yourself . You are a blessing to them because without you , they would have died of starvation . We all know the ‘ Kazi Kwa Vijana ‘ baba Abby  assured many young people was ‘ kalongolongo ‘ .

Truth and Accuracy

Journalists cannot always guarantee ‘truth’, but getting the facts right is the cardinal principle of journalism. We should always strive for accuracy, give all the relevant facts we have and ensure that they have been checked. When we cannot corroborate information we should say so.

Independence

Journalists must be independent voices; we should not act, formally or informally, on behalf of special interests whether political, corporate or cultural. We should declare to our editors – or the audience – any of our political affiliations, financial arrangements or other personal information that might constitute a conflict of interest.

Leon Lidigu with Julie Gichuru

Fairness and Impartiality

Most stories have at least two sides. While there is no obligation to present every side in every piece, stories should be balanced and add context. Objectivity is not always possible, and may not always be desirable (in the face for example of brutality or inhumanity), but impartial reporting builds trust and confidence.

Humanity

Journalists should do no harm. What we publish or broadcast may be hurtful, but we should be aware of the impact of our words and images on the lives of others.

Accountability

A sure sign of  professionalism is the ability to hold ourselves accountable. When we commit errors we must correct them and our expressions of regret must be sincere not cynical. We listen to the concerns of our audience. We may not change

If you don’t mind Jeff , I have been reading alot on Johanna Vehkoo, the literary editor at the Aamulehti newspaper in Finland and a Helsingin Sanomat-sponsored fellow, who  has written an extensive and very readable study examining the nature of quality journalism and how it can help to save  media.

In her research paper, entitled ‘What is Quality Journalism: and how can it be saved’, Johanna focuses on what needs to be done in terms of preserving quality content and making it better. She starts by examining how media experts have defined ‘quality journalism’, and concludes that journalism’s key role is to be an independent monitor of power and the servant of citizens.  But good journalism must also try ‘to make sense of the chaotic world around us.

It interprets, analyses, and strives to give meaning to all the babbling that’s going on’.Johanna interviews eleven key newspaper editors, journalists and media academics to get a sense of the role that quality journalism could and should play in the future of news, whatever platform it may be on. She concludes with seven detailed recommendations to save quality journalism, including ‘content must come before business models’, ‘journalists must specialise’, and ‘invest in quality’.

I personally learn everyday and take lessons from you and many other senior Journalists . It really sounded crazy when It dawned on me that Jeff was off TV . I know big online critics Nyakundi might have thrown a party at B-Club but in my opinion we are supposed to cultivate a culture of uplifting one another regardless of the situation.

Do you remember how Kenyans poured their hearts out for Esther Arunga? Some even wanted her to come back home and do it from Kenya. Am glad that now you are back , ready to take on more challenges and smoke them out . While at your new work place , please say hi to madam Farida Karoney for me , she has been my mentor ever since I joined campus and finished  a few years ago . Also tell miss Lilian Muli I have missed her and  I called her jana she didn’t pick up . Good to see you back Jeff ! Lastly in this election we need  a special type of Journalism .This is journalism that takes the public good as its driving principle, journalism aimed at providing citizens with accurate information so they can make informed decisions about their lives, journalism that exposes wrongdoing and gives voice to the voiceless. This sort of journalism holds to tenets of ethics, accuracy and social justice. And journalism of this sort lies at the heart of a functioning democracy. Always remember that most people know good Journalism when they see it .

Your friend,

@LeonLidigu

Did Jeff Koinange just diss KTN? a day after JKL’s first episode on Citizen TV…just have a look at this

Well, JKL had its first episode at Citizen and we can comfortably say it was a total success.

Grand Mulla was great, the topic was engaging and most importantly there was no name calling.

Days before that however, he had spoken to E Daily and assured his audience that there will be no repeat of the Miguna Miguna and Esther Passaris showdown.

“From the Miguna Passaris interview, I learnt that anything can happen on live TV. So I must always be awake, always be smart and sharp, always be ready to jump in, just in case..Lessons learnt” He told E Daily.

The Miguna Miguna and Esther Passaris showdown that totally got out of hand

He even apologized; can you imagine Jeff Koinange apologizing with his big ego?

In the process, he didn’t desist from throwing a little shade at KTN where JKL was previously hosted.

“Look, we are going to have clean shows. We have a controlled environment here (Citizen TV). It is not like where we were before, where people can walk in and there is an audience. It is a controlled environment here, so obviously we are not going to let any show get out of hand.” He said.

If that’s not throwing major shade, then I don’t know what it is.

Reprieve as Jeff Koinange will no longer be jailed!

Jeff Koinange woes started in May 2015 when Senior Resident Magistrate Maisy Chesang issued a warrant of arrest against him for disobeying court orders.

A Nairobi court issued a warrant of arrest against Jeff Koinange and businessman Tony Gachoka for contempt of court on May 13th 2015.

Jeff failed to appear in court to answer charges of discussing the conduct of a company on his show despite a court order barring him.

Jeff Koinange and Tony Gachoka

The plaintiff argues that Jeff and Tony discussed defamatory statements on Jeff Koinange Live that caused their company, Kwacha Group of Companies Limited, massive losses by linking it to Anglo leasing scandal.

Businessmen, Sani Mbui Wanjigi and Jimi Wanjigi, had obtained orders on March 20th 2015 barring Jeff Koinange, KTN and the Standard Media Group from broadcasting or publishing alleged defamatory statements concerning them and the company.

Jeff and Tony Gachoka were arrested on May 19th

The legendary talk show host was freed the same day on a cash bail of Kes 2 million while Tony Gachoka spent weeks locked at Industrial Area Remand Prison after he failed to pay bail.

Jeff is finally off the hook, High Court Judge Roselyne Aburili on Monday February 27th 2017 ruled that the Kes 2 million fine or six months jail term imposed on Jeff and Tony was unlawful.

Aburili said that the fine was wrongly imposed by Senior Resident Magistrate Maisy Chesang and also violated Jeff and Tony’s right to a fair trial.

Shortly after announcing he was headed for Citizen, Jeff Koinange trolled by Waihiga Mwaura’s fans. See what they told him

This week Jeff Koinange announced that he would be back on TV screens after a short heist.

JKL stopped airing on KTN and this is after Miguna Miguna caused a major showdown after thoroughly attacking Nairobi governor Esther Passaris.

After that there was speculation all over as to where it was headed with even NTV being fielded as a likely destination only for Miguna Miguna to reveal that it was headed for Citizen TV.

A previous episode of JKL with Miguna Miguna and Esther Pasarris as guests

A few days ago, Jeff Koinange confirmed to these rumours and promised it would be bigger and better; smoooking hot just to be precise.

It seems however not so  many people are happy with its constant rotation across the Kenyan media space starting with Amanda Stellah Muthomi a fan of Citizen’s TV Waihiga Mwaura.

This is what she posted, a comment that was seconded by a couple of more Kenyans:

Kenyans have zero chills #JKL on @citizentvkenya Coming soon…

Jeff Koinange set to be back on TV in two days amid confusion that has rocked his return

The legendary talk show host has been off air since December 2016 when KTN decided to axe his show. But Jeff will be back on screens in a few days time.

KTN parted ways with Jeff Koinange following the ugly incident where Miguna Miguna stripped Esther Passaris on JKL.

There have been a lot of speculations about the TV station that would host Jeff as he makes a return on the screens.

Miguna Miguna was the first person who disclosed that Jeff Koinange Live would return on a rival TV station.

Then on February 4th, Jeff Koinange tweeted a photo of himself at Arise TV News saying JKL was almost ready to hit the screens. Many people thought the tweeted implied JKL would be back on Arise TV News.

On 5th February, GOtvKenya also tweeted a poster of Jeff Koinange saying that the legendary talk show host will be on Maisha Magic East starting February 9th.

Is it that JKL will be back on multiple TV stations? Jeff hasn’t clarified this yet.

Miguna Miguna reveals the rival TV station that will host Jeff Koinange Live… Vows to be back on the show

Speculations about the TV station that will host Jeff Koinange Live have been put to an end after Miguna Miguna cleared the air.

Jeff Koinange announced the end of his eponymous show on KTN on 24th November 2016 following the ugly incident that saw Miguna Miguna tear into Esther Passaris.

The legendary talk show host apologized to viewers over the Passaris/Miguna incident as he announced JKL had come to an end on KTN; he also said his show will be back on a different station.

There have been speculations that JKL had found a new home at NTV but this assumption turned out not to be the case.

Miguna Miguna has revealed JKL will be back on Citizen TV; the wannabe governor disclosed this on Facebook while responding to a critic who had said that he (Miguna) wouldn’t have a platform to express himself because JKL was no more.

Miguna assured his detractor that JKL will be back next month on Citizen TV and that he will be on the show.
