Police surround DPC Mohammed Kirumira’s Home

DPC Mohammed Kirumira faced arrest today and was taken to Naguru police tribunal. He is being charged under the cases of neglect of duty, discreditable conduct, torture, extortion, corruption, bribery, unlawful arrest and excessive use of authority. These crimes were commited by him during his time in office.

Mohammed is also charged with neglect of duty  contrary to Section 44(1) Code 23(a) and discreditable or irregular conduct contrary to Section 44(1) Code 12 of the Police Act. Apparently some of these cases have been under investigation by the Professional Standards Unit for years.

Police surround Kirumira’s home to forcefully arrest him, after what they called and alleged social media resignation from him.
KIRUMIRA MOHAMMED’S FORCEFUL ARREST

The police employed all means to get Kirumira out of his house, and also disperse the crowds. These included gunshots, and flying squads. Our sources also report that they did not use any search warrants. Kirumira apparently resigned from the police force.

From a press release yesterday, we confirm that this resignation was rejected. The police had warned him against this form of resignation. Kirumira resigned from his position using social media, which the police also considers an act of crime.

Kirumira, the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) is being charged with these crimes which he  committed around 2014 and 2013

“If anyone feels that by me saying this I have committed a crime, let them add it on the other ones. I want to leave the force a clean man,” Mr Kirumira commented.

Many of his supporters, friends and family also crowded around the house trying to block the arrest.

We will keep you posted on the issue as it unfolds.
